2016 NEDGC Host Course Bid Applications

Post by Bill Bertera »

With the 2015 NEDGC less than 2 months away, we already need to start thinking about next year. NEFA will follow the same process as last year to determine who will host the 2016 NEDGC. We are very excited about everything Base Camp, GMDGC, Two Roads Brewing and all of Vermont is doing in hosting the NEDGC this year. Lets see if we can find a course and club out there willing to try to match them.

The full application is on the google here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dfNtAR2wRQ9dMd8KPXk1soefrEQwqwJsn2gw9Xd_hW4/edit?usp=sharing Click File -> Download As -> Microsoft Word to save a local copy to edit. Email the complete application to towelie@gmail.com (or any questions that you don't want to post here).

I don't know if we have a firm deadline for applications yet, but assume at least until near the end of September.

Here are the requirements for the host site (also listed on the application):

EDIT November 6

NEFA BOD met and voted in October (and I've been a slacker about posting the update) with the following incentives for hosting the 2016 NEDGC:

$1000 will go the course or club that hosts the event.

and/or

The right to supply AM payouts will be given to a store/supplier/TD who is involved in the running of the tournament (this year point series and NEDGC payouts totalled around $4k). Must be an established supplier of discs (Can't be Karl & Titan trying to sell off Tully & Buff's L&F).

Some examples:

If Pyramids hosted, they would get the $1k and payouts through MS.
If Pure Flight ran the NEDGC at Crane Hill. The Crane Hill Club would get the $1k, and Pure Flight would get the rights to do the AM payouts.

Please contact Matt or myself if you are interested in hosting.

Requirements

Site must be able to host 72-player tournaments for AM and Pro on the same weekend. This can be accomplished with a 2-day event on 1 course, or a 1-day event on 2 courses. If using 2 courses, they must be on the same property or within reasonable driving distance of each other (10-20 minutes MAX).

The property(s) used must provide ample parking for all participants.

The property(s) used must be dedicated to the NEDGC for the duration of the event. This means no other large non-NEDGC events taking place at the same time, and that the course will be closed to the public for the entire weekend.

The property(s) must provide ample restrooms for all participants.

The bid must include a players party during the weekend, either on the property or very close by.

Bids must be received by September 30, 2015.

NEDGC must be held the weekend of 10/1-2.

Application must be signed by property owner or responsible property manager.

I wonder how many courses in New England even fit the necessary criteria.
Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that disc getting bigger?". Then it hits me.

Why couldn't every course that held a NEFA tournament this year could meet those requirements? Those without a restroom could rent one.

This may be a dumb question but I am genuinely interested. I get that hosting would bring a course a lot of exposure but why else would a course or club want to take on such an undertaking, I ask, because I am wondering if this is something that Keene Disc Golf CLub and our home course Otter Brook may someday be interested in doing.

There was discussion last year regarding a "grant" of sorts for the club that hosts the event. In the case of a pay to play course, NEFA provides the greens fees. Essentially, we would do the same for a club that hosts it, either at a private course or otherwise. I can look back to see if we voted on that to officially allocate a specific amount of money to the club, or if it was a per case basis.

Thanks Matt, it would also be great to hear from club members who have hosted and what the experience was like.

Well, the past two years it has really been NEFA hosting at Maple Hill. This year, it has been more on the Green Mountain crew and the course owner, so it would be good perspective to hear from them.

also if any course wants to host, but would need some flexibility with some of the requirements, please contact us. We're very happy to work with anyone to make their ideas work.

Any advance notice that you plan to send in a bid would be good too.

We didn't discuss an exact deadline, but we are going to start reaching out to clubs or TDs in short time if we don't get bids. So contact us within the next week or so if you think you're interested.

I forgot to mention we changed the date to 10/1-2. To avoid conflict with the Women's Nationals in Maine, and also gives an extra week buffer between Smuggs.

Any specifics on finals dates available? Specifically, which day will be Am, which will be pro? Thanks!

safe to assume AMs on Saturday and Pros on Sunday, been doing it that way for a few years, doubt we'll switch it.
