for you Jax, probably a 6.

I gave it some thought this week, and given that in past years we had to drop the hole due to an unforseen/planned lacrosse game, I'm happy to just have the 20 holes. So there is no OB, but the height of the fence certainly makes for challenges depending on how far the lie is from the fence. I saw Tony take it all the way down to the end of the field, then we (doubles) had to figure how much of the road to try for while bending it right down the fairway.

It's still a great par 4. Without the irrigation pond OB, the RH hyzer bomb is now feasible, but where that lands effects the second throw because of the fence.

JD mentioned unlimited relief, I was thinking more like a meter relief. What do you think?

I'd really like to see a new pin down at the end of the new field where the pond used. Short of that option, "unlimited relief" works for the fence perpendicular to the tee, but doesn't work for the fence running parallel to the road since the angle to the pin basically follows the fence.

To clarify, unlimited relief is a concept like yellow stakes in ball golf. You can take it back any distance as long as you keep the same line to the pin. Players sometimes go really far back to a distance they have dialed in, but in disc golf it's more important to minimize distance.

For the fence parallel to road, it makes more sense to have a rule where player gets relief perpendicular to fence (like the standard meter relief perpendicular from OB). If you're lying against that tall fence, a meter relief isn't much. 3 meters (or more) is more reasonable in my opinion.

To simply all this, just make it a maximum X distance relief taken perpendicular to fence.

Thanks for bringing this up Jaxon.

what's so odd about that fence is that it makes you forget where the old one was and how tall it was/wasn't

i threw what i thought was a great drive but it didn't clear it and i was fortunate to get a clean 5
i threw an extra funzie for my 3rd throw and needed to disc up to a Wraith to even reach the pin because my second throw was just an overhand chip shot

i'm pretty sure you allowed for a little more relief off the orange fence before for safety right? maybe just say 2 meters because it allows for people to keep their hands away from hitting it but doesn't give any major advantage
plus it's easier to measure than anything longer- basically just 6 feet.

either way i'm glad you aren't skipping the hole!
