Re: Question for NEFA BOD
There was only one NEFA event in Maine in 2017. Two were listed, one failed to actually sanction.Jeff Wiechowski wrote:Just a quick glance thru last years calendar.....Mike Zorovich wrote:One more question, how many nefa sanctioned events per state?

Re: Question for NEFA BOD
He was thinking about eliminating finals. Having only one points event per state, top 4 finishes count toward the season. The rest of the events are basically fundraisers for the grant program and season payouts.Bill Bertera wrote:like his state hosting finals????
There’s more to it than that but it would basically be a complete overhaul of how NEFA operates.
Apologies to Zoro for any inaccuracies in my description of his ideas.

Re: Question for NEFA BOD
the most important thing nefa could do moving forward is not about a finals or any competitive based formatNEFA Membership report

• Gold membership = 172
• 3 new in 2017, 9 new in 2016, 11 new in 2015
it should be to address this alarming drop off of numbers that seems to be increasing rapidly
so its the end of 2017 already that means only 53 current non gold nefa members?
I understand many renew at first event but wowzers

Re: Question for NEFA BOD
can we all agree there is a serious disconnect from reality...or is the same ole the forums caused this gimmick gonna be inserted
that is a dead horse and maybe it's time to actually rebuild this org and get it back on track to be a dominate DG force in NE again
if not then why even bother seems so many other things could use peoples energy then running an org into zero memberships
carry on with yo uglyfacebook discussions

Re: Question for NEFA BOD
NEFA membership is dropping off in the, shall we say, outlying areas because those areas no longer really need it. As more courses pop up and more players find the game, everything is naturally going to be more and more fragmented.
I think the distribution of NEFA Points is pretty clear evidence of that. Look at the numbers Jeff posted above for 2017, then consider the numbers from 2006 (handy because someone recently posted a picture of the Finals stamped disc that lists all the events that year).
22 TOTAL events
MA - 6
ME - 6
CT - 3
NY - 3
VT - 2
NH - 2
As a percentage of the total, there is a lot more representation by certain states then than there is now. I think the biggest reason for that is there is no longer a need to attract players from one region to another to support a tournament. Tournaments are filling on their own just with local players. There is no longer any value in being NEFA-affiliated for an ever larger percentage of the tournaments in the New England region.
NEFA is shrinking in relevance, both geographically and in overall need. I'm not so sure that's a bad thing. It's a sign of and a result of outstanding growth in the game. NEFA can still have a purpose going forward, and I don't think it will die off to nothing, but I don't think it will ever see significant membership growth either, no matter what its purpose.

Re: Question for NEFA BOD
good points, that leads me back to why does nefa just need to be about a "series of events"As a percentage of the total, there is a lot more representation by certain states then than there is now. at the very least maybe transition to youth, age protected, dubz, some year end invite from all the states
currently I see nefa offering the same thang as everywhere else, maybe try to offer something different and see what happens.
outstanding growth in the game should not translate to lowest nefa numbers ever, nor ever being able to regain and maintain numbers, to me that just means the "disc" was missed
how to get that disc into the chains? hmmm I can think of about 50 ideas instantly and none involve a point series as we know it
