Kenji Cline wrote:I met with the parks guys making the tees this morning at Blatnick. (6:30 is damn early) Tee 1 short was done already when I got there not where I had marked it. It is at the lower part of the hill not the top. The shot will be a little harder more uphill then where I had marked the tee originally. While it bothered me a little that they didn't see where I had marked the tee locations and made the tee where they wanted, the tee looks great and it being at the bottom is not the end of the world. They also backfilled the entire area so that the big tractor ruts are gone. I walked with them and showed them the rest of the tee locations I had marked out. So tees long and short 1-3 should be done in the next week. I will go out again this weekend sometime and mark more tees so that their momentum can continue. At the pace they are going tees should be done by mid june. YAY!

Blatnick is 10 minutes from Central Park.

Stony Kill (Chatham) is about 20 minutes east of J-Park. Only 15 minutes from the MA/NY border.

Making Willow Park 18 holes.
Grafton Lake State Park(NY) has epic potential but noone on staff that's interested.
We have some possible prospects in the South Albany area but it's early in the process.
Also have a couple locations in mind near my place in Clifton Park.......bridge the gap between CPS and Hyzer Creek.
Maple Ski Ridge in Rotterdam would give the Schenectady area it's 3rd course and make for a killer 2-day tourney.

So many possibilities......... wish i had the time to really press for them to become reality.

The town has $$ and idle workers so the course is getting extra attention these past few weeks

Well the town appears to have completed the tees for the first 9 holes........

Approach to 2 is much nicer
Image

Short 4 is done, although it could be packed down better(sandbox).
Image

The fairway for 4 is sweet
Image

Long 5 is nice and level but also suffers from sandbox syndrome
Image

Long 7
Image

Short 7
Image

Short 6 and long 8 were also redone very well.
Short 1, 2 and 3 were also redone to reduce the washaway that had sand filling up the teebox.

So i stopped by Blatnick Park the other day and saw some changes...........

Image

We had been held up from completing the 18 hole layout because of work on the methane cap of the landfill. Seeing these new vents added to the hillside i figured that the work was finally getting done. We sent off an email to the Town of Niskayuna and this was the response.........

"Mr. Hoffman, I spoke with Supervisor Landry about your request and he asked me to let you know that the most recent improvement project to the landfill has now been completed. We have had new “candy cane” vent pipes installed. He suggested that you go over to the park and look around, then do some sort of layout for the additional baskets that we can give to our Parks staff.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or when you have the layout ready."

Was scouting out new holes in the park yesterday............thanks to Google maps, I got some fairly accurate distances for the holes.

Current hole 6 blue is 402'....... only about 300 to clear the rocks if you go for it.
Current hole 7 blue is 540' from the blue tee and my proposed revision in the opposite direction could be around 600' blue and 400' white.
Proposed hole 9, with an awesome view of the Mohawk, has the potential to be 700'
Current hole 9 measures around 560' blue and 300' white.
If they let us carve into the woods like hole 4, we should gain two more fully wooded holes(13 & 17).

I'm SOOOOOOO ready to dig for bucket targets, but the ground only let me pound stakes in about 3 inches before they shattered. Crossing my fingers for an early thaw.

http://yourniskayuna.com/blog/2016/10/1 ... -for-2017/

NISKAYUNA — Niskayuna residents can expect to see a tax increase this year, as the town takes on improvements to its wastewaster treatment plant and its discgolf course.

A tentative budget of $15,021,504 was proposed by the town of Niskayuna for 2017. This is an increase of $505,406 from the adopted 2016 budget.

The proposed homestead tax rate is $2.76 per $1,000 of assessed value, which is up from last year’s $2.65. The non-homestead tax rate has increased from $5.51 in 2016 to 5.67.

The median home value in Niskayuna is assessed at $274,400. Thus the average homeowner would pay $756.22 in town property taxes. In 2016, the average taxpayer paid $728.35 in town property taxes.

According to town supervisor Joe Landry, the budget increase from $14.4 million in 2016 to $15 million is due to several large-scale projects.

Since August, the town has been working to replace water lines on Pearse and Lishakill Roads and costs from this project will be carried over into 2017.

Improvements to the town’s wastewater treatment plant on Whitmyer Drive also make up a large portion of the proposed budget.

Some of these improvements will include a new electrical system, a generator and tanks.

The police department will also be purchasing new vehicles and adding another staff member, due to the recent retirement of Officer Michael Terwilliger.

The town will be building a new water and sewer garage on WTRY Road, next to their highway facility, making both department operations run more efficiently.

“We’re continually changing our programs as well. It’s another large part of our budget,” Landry said, citing the Niskayuna soccer camp and the Fall Fun Run as two prime examples.

An expansion of the town’s disc golf course is also in store for 2017, taking the course from nine holes to a full 18.

The town will also be building new playgrounds in the next year, although the locations are undecided.
