Rutgers Tees

Post by Dave Meltzer »

I'm certainly glad that all the am tees are so well marked. Big Dave and I played the RUT last Sunday. For many of the pro tees we noted that there were three separate and distinct markings. HUH?

There were red dots and lines with the correct number [sometimes] in the middle.

There were small white flags.

There were bigger orange flags.

Which of these tees are official? Unnofficial? Something Cubby just drew up? How about some better pro tee markings at Rutgers. What do you say BOB.

Mel,

Regarding Rutgers, it's a bit of a ticklish situation there.... Since it's an institution (similar to a lot of other institutions), you may have to go through a lot of red tape to "do anything" (to the course). And, in the (recent) past, some things were tried to be done, and were "objected to" / were thought to be "wrong" / intent-improperly-perceived, so there may be lingering vestiges (the different colored markings, etc.) of such still there. Understood, the short course is well marked. The "B" tees (which some of the holes have and some just don't) are either known (by the "locals") or aren't. And to get them to be "official" in any sense of the word, may be a small act of congress. As for the "Jam" tees, some are the "B" tees and the rest are totally, altogether different. Confusing I know. BOB is definately one of the "movers" at Rdgc (and I know he reads the NEFA board sometimes) but Rutgers Disc Golf "Club" is a very loose bunch of players (we kind of like it that way...unstructured, that is) and, due to the potential headaches associated with getting a second set of tees officially marked on the campus, it might just be easier to learn the B-tee locations once and for all.

Karl

Ps: Did I call Rutgers DGC members "loose"?

Karl: I've been playing the course for years, and have always known where the B tees are, and where the pond/field holes are. However, there were new flags [mostly orange] in various positions that made me curious.

They're probably a few (the orange flags) marking the "B tees", a few marking intended trees to be cut down (before widow-makers happen), a few that used to mark alternate tees (but "got moved" for god knows what reason), a few which were moved "to goof up the disc golfers" (remember, this IS a college...where pranks WILL be played), etc.
