Team Challenge Poll

Post by discglfr05 »

Last season we went with 2 home/ 2 away and 1 neutral match. I'm curious to know what challenge participants would like to see this year in terms of scheduling

I voted 3/1/1, even though I dont think its up for discussion, and with the 3/1/1 it'll be impossible to fairly "balance" schedules.

While I don't have a problem with one person organizing the team challenge and hopefully Joe will take that on again this year because he's done a great job, when it comes to formats/schedules and any other considerations, it just makes sense to get opinions...otherwise, what's the point?...it is absolutely up for discussion

Well, with every league, there is a commissioner... he makes the tough decisions, and puts in the most work.

Bill Belichick does not decide where the Patriots play or when they play. The schedule makers make that decision. The schedule makers work in conjunction with the commissoner.

Sure, the players union says,"we think 16 weeks is enough" they also have a say in traveling coast to coast back to back weeks, but that is about it.

The commissioner TOLD the NYG and Dolphins theyd be playing in London this year, at a "neutral" site... the Giants and Dolphins did NOT make that decision.

There is alot that goes into the schedule, this NEFA league definitely has it's powerhouses, middle of the road teams, and new teams getting used to the league. That makes it tough to make it "fair".

Realistically, there are 2 fair ways to break this down:

1. The 2/2/1 option. (Because I can flip flop last years schedule)
2. ALL Neutral option, it takes "home course advantage" out of the picture.

The 3/1/1 option leaves alot to be desired, because you get (1) shot at home, and (1) shot away...

Last year, Burgess for example. Home 2-0 Neutral 1-1 Away 0-1, we have a serious home course advantage for a course that is very small. Away... well everyone except Wick has had trouble away.. and they play all their matches away.. for the most part.

What's the point?

To make this league as fair as possible to crown a true NEFA champ. At the end of the season, I dont want to hear grumblings that because Burgess got their toughest opponent on the 3/1/1 breakdown at home and won, and got their weakest opponent away and won.... that this league schedule is skewed.

Again, I re-iterate. It's gotta be 2/2/1 or all Neutral.

Those choices are fine with me Steve....I'd go with all neutral myself. I think it's important to gauge the opinions of the league participants when it comes to scheduling...this is not the NFL nor even close to any professional sports league...let's not over-do/overthink things here...get opinions and work from there...it is one man's final decision, but let's say hypothetically most are in favor of an all neutral challenge schedule, then the commish says, nope same as last year...that's pretty much ignoring majority opinion and that makes no sense...this whole league was built on multiple opinions from multiple sources not one man's final say.

All Neutral seems like the best way to me to determine the better teams. Anybody can shoot lights out on their home course.

just one guy's opinion though.

I threw in the 3-1-1 as just another option....to me it sounds just as fair as the all neutral because it satisfies both sides...you still have one home/one away ...as we've all seemingly agreed about the advantage of home course...conceivably, most teams could be 1-1 heading into 3 neutral challenges

I'd say it's pretty damn close to a Pro event.

Afterall, this year hopefully there will be a cash prize.

And, if you look at most team rosters, atleast the top 4-5 players on each team play in Pro Open. Therefore, it sounds pretty "Professional" to me.

I am not overthinking anything, the only thing that would require more thinking is the 3/1/1 schedule, and again, the only reason for that is trying to be "fair and balanced".

Yes, it is professional on a local level...my argument is not taking anything away from talent level...not even what I was thinking about. Doesn't mean we HAVETO model it after a professional league in terms of schedule makers doing their job with no input from the participants. If the majority votes for neutral matches, then that's what we should do...this is all I'm saying....does this sound unreasonable?

There is something to be said about 'hosting' a challenge. It is super nice to go to someones course and they take care of you. Kind of a scaled down version of the treatment the visiting team gets at the Earl Cup.

How many home teams have lost in two years? One? I personally think home course advantage is to big to overcome. I don't see how all neutral isn't the most fair. Although if we keep it the same I think flip flopping schedules is a must. My .02 Or better yet you play teams where you haven't played them yet.

As far as scheduling goes this year, I am gonna look back all the way to year one.

Teams will play where they have not played. Yes, that means a drive for some teams.

Example: Burgess has been everywhere, therefore our schedule will be...

Buff (home), Wick (home), @ Womp, Borderland (Neutral), Maple Hill (Neutral)
