Beaver Brook Reservation - Waltham/Belmont

Post by jvinsant »

Beaver Brook Reservation in Belmont and Waltham is taking on an additional 259 acres of land that belonged to the nearby and former Metropolitan State Hospital. There is current public comment period that expires this Friday. I think the most weighted comments would come from local residents (Belmont, Lexington, Watertown, Waltham, Arlington). If you live nearby and want to share your comments on the potential for a disc golf course there, please send them to

beaverbrookrmp@gmail.com

I sent a letter there and to the planning coordinator for DRC. I mentioned the unanimous approval for a disc golf course by the Friends of Wompatuck. Part of their current draft proposal for use of the land includes a 9-hole public ball golf course. If they can make room for that, we can hopefully succeed at getting a disc golf course installed.

I will continue to follow up with this, but please send your constructive comments to the email address above by Friday if you live in the area.

More information can be found at:

Thanks,

niceeeeeeee, thats like 5 minutes from my house(belmont). I thought that most of that area which is more commonly known as rock meadow, was designated for an expansion of the ghetto old cemetary they already have. I often go there to practice. With decent maitenance that area would be great for a course!!!. There's lots of elevation an a great mix of open and wooded areas. In fact some of my buddies created a biking course in one part of it and it was illegal at the time, but if beaverbrook buys out the plot with that course than youve already got at least 4 holes paved out. The jumps for it make great elevated ace runs. The thought of a dg course crossed my mind earlier this year but i was under the impression that all the land had been sold. It's only a 40 minute drive from borderland and would definitely have potential to be one of the better courses in the massachusetts area.
I will definitely bombard them with emails.
If you post on this board and are from the area you would have to be a fool to not send an email.

Please, no bombarding. A few kind and careful emails will go a lot farther than several persistent emails.

But yes, a course here would be great. And a ten minute walk for me. :)

Just so you know, it's DCR (Dept of Conservation and Recreation) Just out of curiosity, what group is represented by the link: beaverbrookrmp@gmail.com ... is this a link to a public forum?, the DCR?, local town group?

simple typo. I believe the gmail address is taken by the consultant who prepared the draft report. I also sent my email to the planning director of DCR.

DCR is currently looking at Great Brook Farm State Park in Carlisle and Callahan State Park in Framingham as possible locations for DG courses... Gary Briere is the contact person at the DCR (Recreational Director). Mr. Briere has met with John Hart (president of NEFA) to discuss the benefits of discgolf in state parks

Carlisle/Framingham

Both towns would be great as well. I know that DCR has an all-around growing awareness of disc golf, and its good to have recognition in many communities that there are disc golfers all over the state. Let's make new courses in Hingham, Framingham, Carlisle, Belmont, and Devens all happen! Can't wait to play at the Devens course. The contact I sent my letter to was Dan Driscoll, who is responsible for resource management planning for Urban Parks.

Has there been any news at all with these two locations and/or Beaver Brook? All 3 would be within 495 which I would be huge for NEFA and awareness to the public.
