Double Disc Court: ways to build a court...

Post by Dave Mourad »

Heya - any advice on good solid ways to construct a DDC court? I'd like to finally get one going for Wick. The dimensions and specs are simple enough:

13-meter squares separated by 17-meters

What type and gauge rope would you recommend using?

I was pondering different fastening techniques: rings, anchor clamps, crimps, grommets, knots, but am looking for something easy to set up and something that's stable (rope doesn't stretch - knots don't come undone or allow rope to slip).

Your ideas are muchly appreciated.

We actually just played DDC at Buzzy's yesterday! We use yellow rope that has been measured to be the size of the court. The corners are tabbed with a small piece of duct tape. We lay the rope out in a square and then insert nails into the duct tape tab. Circular metal rings at each corner would be a better idea.

We need to figure out a better way of storage. We use a milk crate but the ropes get extremely tangled every time wrap up the courts. Maybe the circular metal rings would help this problem.

We should play at FDR this weekend!

When I used to play regularly, we used 2 electric cord spools (Home Depot?). One for each court.

You could use landscape staples to hold down the rope. They are essentially big wire "U"s that you jam into the ground over the rope. They are sold in bulk too.
