The field on the left is getting to muddy. Please park in the upper field to the right where old hole 10 was. Face down the hill and exit at the bottom near the Hyland sign throught the opening in the fence.

So Hyland disc golf course has never seen this many people during this time of the year. With all of the wet weather, foot traffic and the ground not staying frozen, there are some places that are getting muddy. No one really knew where and when this would happen.
I will start to fix this problem today. I will work hard to improove these areas before any of the team challenges take place. There are a couple of T boxes that I will also work on. I personally hate not being able to get the power needed to pull of a good drive because of a poor T box.
This will be Hyland first winter. No one is really sure how it will play with snow. I can tell you that walking on 10 and 12 then up the hill on 14 may be tough for some. There are a lot of rocks. So please just be careful and watch your step.

I saw alot of similarities at Hyland to J-Park as far as the rocky terrain players will have to navigate. All I can tell you is be very aware of where you step. The ankle support and protection a good pair of boots provide is neccessary. It will get better as more feet travel thru these rocky areas. It just may take a year or so.

I'd put the tees as #1 on your to-do list. Also, the trails between some holes could use mulch to reduce the slippery, muddy footing.

Overall, i thought it was a fairly challenging course with some really tough holes that have the potential to become "that hole" people comes back to try and beat. Can't wait to get another shot at 12.

New t box on 14 today. Bark mulch has been spread. New box on 14 will be done early this week. Mudd has starting to become a problem but will be handle quickly.

I guess no course in NEFA land is truly neutral anymore

What are your thoughts about a private course...like John Hart's up in NH? I understand that playing matches there is virtually impossible but maybe something like that.

And what is the general consensus about "how much is home-court advantage worth"?

Eric,

"A LOT" is not really a quantifiable term  . I was hoping to get REAL numbers (via guesses) - ya know, like 1, 2, 3, pi, 4, avogadro's, planck's constent, etc.

Eric (and others),

I was thinking about strokes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but some folks seem to be grump'in about playing matches on courses where others have "some advantage" (over them that are grump'in).

A home-and-home would eliminate the overall effects of such (although not any ONE individual match) but are there enough matches to implement this?

If not, then I'm just trying to get people thinking about how much THEY think the "home course advantage" is.

The funny thing about this all is, is that IF you were to ask people how much some other course favors their opponent, they'd say "MOONS", "10 shots at least", etc., BUUUUUUUUUT their course isn't nearly worth THAT much...

...knowing that your intent (in asking them) is to come up with some sort of differential / handicap to be affixed at the next match.

Gamemanship will never cease to amuse me :D .

Karl
Ps: Ricola's are too good to play for...they're just donated and enjoyed!

There is no team Hyland. So wouldn't it would be neutral to any team? It will be open during challenges like any other course.

I would say that the advantage of a home course is specific to the individual course. The longer, tighter and more blind the course, the harder it is to learn on the fly. If you can stand on the tee box and see the basket and how to get there, you don't gain anything by having played it many times. Dog legs and undefined fairways give an advantage to those with experience at that particular hole.
Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that disc getting bigger?". Then it hits me.

i think its an individual thing....

if your a better more experienced golfer, you should be able to play better than a rookie like me, even if we both went in blind....

ive played with a few guys @ Buff on the new pro layout, guys i had never met, who were much better golfers than me, and have shot really well even throwing it for the first time....

the first time i played Borderland i played with a few others who had never played before, and sure enough, the better golfers shot better than I did.....

i guess im saying i think discipline and experience are more valuable than # of rounds played at a certain course.....

Don: cant wait to see the new 10 and the rest of the changes!!! Also, did you get back that Highlands of Conway Pig i found at Barre?????

New hole 13 is in.

Mixed reviews about new 13. I will consider all the things I heard today. That is going to be the short T anyway. The long T is what really matters.

Come out to Hyland this Saturday. You can watch two great teams compete, or play yourself. The pavilion will be open and serving beer. The fire pit will be roaring. Then Pioneer karaoke idol happens inside starting at 6pm. It is a fun time watching people compete wheather it be at disc golf or karaoke. I am going for the title this time.

My normal playing partner is my Husky named Tundra. She is very well behaved, never touches a disc, and I've heard her bark about 2 times in her entire life. A few people in NEFA can attest that she is an ideal playing partner.
Is it ok to bring her with me to check out your course? or is there a no dogs allowed policy.
