Who's down for Sunday? Be there or be square. Squares don't fly as well as discs, I suggest being there.

We'll be working at Dacey Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Work will start at 7:30 both days. The plan is to start cutting the FINAL HOLE, hole 12, and do some trail work Saturday. On Sunday we'll be putting a basket on 16 and possibly 15 if there is time (Patriots start at 1:00).

The course is almost a full 18 with baskets. The more people that help, the more gets done and the closer we get to a legit course. Come help make it happen.

Major progress at Dacey this weekend. We completed connecting hole 11 – hole 18 by trails, cut roughly 70% of hole 12, and poured concrete for the hole 16 basket. The basket will be going up on hole 16 tomorrow. As of tomorrow afternoon, we will have all 18 fairways connected and cut with 16 playable holes (14 baskets, 2 buckets). Big thank you to Mox, Craig, mark, Pat, Glen, and Trow for all the help this weekend.

At the current rate, we’ll have a full 18 at Dacey with baskets within 3-4 weeks! We’ll be working this coming Sunday morning to finish the cutting on holes 12 and 13 (both big ol’ par 4’s). If you’d like to help out by can’t make it Sunday, both of these holes can use clearing. We’ll be working on updating the course map over the next week or so to include all 18 holes and the new trails as well.

Despite my chainsaw dying yesterday, it was a really productive week at Dacey. Todd B. took care of the remaining brush piles on hole 18. Thanks Todd. Once my saw is alive and well a again I'll do some more widening work over there.

This weekend Zach, Mox, and I spread our efforts all over. The trails from 3-4, 9-10, 10-11, 11-12, and 12-13 were all prettied up real nice like. With a barely cooperating saw we also managed to do some additional cutting on the hole 12 & 13 fairways, extend the hole 13 tee back, clean up a bottleneck on hole 11, and cut a new window for the hole 4 tee (real nice risk reward). Lastly, we put up white arrows this weekend showing direction to the next tee. Hopefully this will be a big help to navigation out there. Thanks to Zach and Mox for making this happen.

I'll be remapping the course and producing a new digital map this week. Updated hole info to accompany.

We'll be working 8 - 3 this coming Sunday. If you're looking to help out but can't make it, holes 12 & 13 need clearing. If enough people step up this week and weekend this should be our last week/weekend of cutting and clearing before we start to set the last 4 baskets. Goal date of October 21 to have the remaining 4 baskets poured. It's cool out and tournament season is winding down. If you haven't made it to Dacey yet, I promise you'll be impressed by the course. If you've helped before we'd love to have you back.

Where is the window on 4, left side? Is the tee the same?
How much further is hole 13's tee?? That must be 450+ft uphill now!
Bottleneck on 11...do you mean when you get to the top of the hill, that wall of trees? That would be sweet if that's what you're referring to...that's a brutal shot!
Which 4 baskets are left? Which fairways still need to be cut?

Thanks again for your continued efforts Jay...i know you've been kicking ass out there. I should be there sunday AM.

I want to spend a few hours out there with a pole saw :rambo:

I want to thank Rich, Guy, Paul, Bill, and Mike for helping clean up 12 last week. I noticed a big difference and wanted to make sure those responsible got recognition.

As for Kovo's questions...

Where is the window on 4, left side? Is the tee the same?

Yep. Cut the window to the left of the previously existing. Picture is up on FB. Still might cut another window to the left of the new one, even if just for a better view of the field. We want to widen the field a bunch and open up the area around the 3 big pines to the left rear of the fairway at some point too.

How much further is hole 13's tee?? That must be 450+ft uphill now!

The tee got pulled back 30ft or so. We don't have "on the ground" measurements of the holes yet, but based on the GPS mapping data Hole 13 is about 400ft. Definately a nice steep hill to drive over at first. On the topic of hole length, holes 9 & 11-14 are at least 400ft, hole 3 is close to 400ft, and when finished hole 18 will be roughly 500ft. Rough estimates put the course length around 6300ft total!

Bottleneck on 11...do you mean when you get to the top of the hill, that wall of trees? That would be sweet if that's what you're referring to...that's a brutal shot!

The bottle neck was the one on the bottom right end of the fairway, about 70ft from the tee. I want to thin out the wall of trees on the top of the hill, as well as the trees in the approach as I feel both are still a little thick, especially considering hole 11 is around 450ft and a big uphill.

Which 4 baskets are left? Which fairways still need to be cut?

Still have to put baskets on 12-15. All fairways have been cut. Holes 12, 13, and 18 still need a few hours of cutting each, but they're all well on their way.

I want to spend a few hours out there with a pole saw

Its all yours man. I'll have a sharp blade on it for Sunday.

I didn't know this until today, but Columbus Day is on my holiday schedule for this year. As a result, I'll be at Dacey a portion of Monday as well, probably in the 8-12 range. If you can't make it Sunday, or can beast it through 2 days of work, come on out Monday. If we get enough done Sunday and have good crews both days we should be putting in new baskets Monday!!!

Put the practice basket back up today with added security. Back in its old nice, visible spot.

Big thank you all persons involved with clearing 12 and 13 over the past 2 weeks. Its made a huge difference and will allow us to focus on other things, namely pouring concrete for the final 4 baskets.

Picking up a new chain saw from DPW tomorrow. Finished installing the brush knife kit on the trimmer today. Sweet.

Work parties Sunday and Monday, 8-3:30. I'll have a cooler of liquids and I will sponsor lunch.

The Rec Department is starting to warm to the idea of a tournament at Dacey in November or December to help raise money for the tee pads (Fly 18 is expensive stuff). Stay tuned for more details...

Major accomplishments this weekend at Dacey. Lots of cutting on hole 12, as well as touch up work on 13, 14, & 15. We had a few students from a local high school help us clear brush off 12 & 13. Todd B has been a clearing machine and he continued with some work on 13 & 14.

Kovo and Rich went at hole 1, 2, & 4 with the pole saw and brush mower. Hole 4 is going through a big transformation. Really widening the field out nice like.

And baskets. Oh baskets, all nice and metal with your chains. Pete V, Zach, and I focused our efforts on installing the concrete for the final 4 holes today. At the end of work today basket foundations had been poured on holes 12-15. By Saturday morning, all 18 baskets will be up. ALL 18 BASKETS!!!

Huge thanks to everyone who helped out this weekend to push us over the top. It's really a great feeling to know that there will be a full 18 hole course out there starting next weekend. I can't thank everyone, who since the first week in April, have contributed to make it possible to get to this point. I encourage everyone to get out there as soon after Saturday AM as possible to enjoy the course as a full 18. It's going to give us a great challenging place to play.

There is still TONS to do out there. Next we will be focusing on cleaning brush, downed limbs, dead logs, and undergrowth from the fairways. Once all themleaves fall we'll begin leaf blowing all the fairways too. The pole saw will be seeing some action clearing out some airspace. Lots of holes still have touch up cutting. A good number of bridges and walkways need to be built. And of course, tees need to be installed.

No work next weekend. Feel free to clean up any of the fairways if you have time. We'll be back at it in 2 weeks.

GET OUT THERE AND PLAY!

Grip it and rip it,

Was there today. Love the potential of this place. Some great elevation changes and narrow but mostly manageable lines. You guys have done a ton of hard work! :salut: My son and I spent a good 45 minutes clearing all those cut trees etc. on what I think is hole 12. It's pretty clean now. We had a little trouble navigating but admittedly that's not my forte. :drunken: Will definitely return to play and help out.

Thanks for helping out, John! Every little bit goes a long way out there. When more of that type of work is completed by casual golfers, it makes life a lot easier for Jay and his crew to get the nitty gritty stuff done (baskets, digging/pouring, big cutting).

The course has been seeing some traffic and it's great to get the feedback. The fairways are going to start being "groomed" now that most of (if not all) of the major cutting has been done. As you said, the potential for this course is something more people need to see. It reminds me a lot of the course NEFA Finals was just played at in RI...challenging and fairly technical, that relies a lot on shot placement.

I played Dacey for the first time yesterday. At first the park seems unremarkable, with soccer fields and baseball fields and a nice little dog park. They could have taken the easy way out and just dropped a few baskets around the periphery of the fields and created a cute little rec course. Instead, they found a labyrinthine forest behind the park and carved out a monster. The design philosophy seems to be that Borderland Blue to Blue is way too easy, so Dacey is the place to go if you're looking for a challenge. Thanks very much to the sadistic designers and fairway-clearing workhorses who built this course.

Great News. 4 years ago-while House/Dog Sitting for my Sisters Family in Franklin(I Live in NY)-While looking for a Practice Field I came across the Dacey Community Fields. There were Baseball Diamonds, Soccer Fields, and a Dog Park(I think). I would practice in the Field on the left when you drove in. The People looked at me like I was a Zombie throwing Knives. I thought the DCF had the potential for a 9 hole course. Now I read that the design is a Monster 18 hole course that is super challenging to Phil Vilmorin. Super Impressed. Sounds like a Great Course. Congrats.

Jay,

Wish I had more time to help. I will still make it out to clear and finish. You have done a great thing for the game. Thank you for all of your tremendous work. I look forward to my first round of 18 at this facility. It is the designers, builders, TDs that grow the game. You kick ass. Thank you again!

Was out there today and saw 3 different sets of people playing...not bad.

Got some solid work done out there today with a friend of mine.

Left side of Hole 5 has been cleaned up, as well as the basket area. Nice clean/tight look to the basket.

Same thing was done on Hole 6. Left side 1/2 way up the fairway and on. Beautiful look to the basket with nice rock/boulder features. What used to be an impossible 2, has now become attainable with a nice accurate drive.

Cleaned up the lower end of Hole 10 as well...removed some little scrubby trees and cleaned up the lefty line.

For those of you that have NOT checked out the course, it's definitely worth it. All 18 baskets are in.

The main structure of the course is there, just need to be able to get out there with some other work crews and do what we did today in terms of grooming/manicuring, and touching up the fairways. It's a challenging course, but is well on it's way to being a huge addition to MA and New England disc golf.

That right!

Course is extremely righty friendly!!!

The ONLY lefty line was blocked by 2 little trees absolutely killing any chance of a lefty getting through.
