So after finally seeing this course for the first time on Saturday, my concerns about Hylands being too large to get 2 rounds in on daylight are completely squashed since our 4some was able to get in a round in under 2.5 hours with 3 severely lost discs taking up at least 15 minutes of our time. We should have no problems getting in 2 rounds with time to spare.oh, and the course is like Maple Hill on roids minus water.... nuff said!!!!
This is what scared me the most. Though this is a very fun course, I'd say Hylands is more like Borderland Yellow on roids. I didn't look at the scorecard but I'd bet Hylands is shorter than Maple Hill Reds. If my memory is correct (for those that haven't seen the course yet), on Hylands #s 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, 13, 17, and 18 are all reachable in 1 shot if you have a semi-decent arm. Obviously tees/footing can change that though.
So I guess that brings me to the tees. Again, for those that haven't played, most tees are natural or have ball golf driving range tees (the 5' x 5' rubber mats w/ green astroturf top). I'm thinking the astroturf will be an ice magnet because it will hold water and let it freeze on top. So should we have a resolution to the tees??? Do we allow throwing behind or to the side of them for safety's sake (behind should be allowed, but some don't have area to throw behind so 2' to the side should be considered for a casual team challenge). I'm guessing the course doesn't want us running on the mats with microspikes but obviously microspikes will be a huge plus to get around the course. Please discuss...
Also since I'm reading that December is the only month the course is open to non-members, will we have enough members in January to cover us all? Haven't seen that answered since we pushed the date back to January.
Holes 3, 14, 15, 16 are also reachable in 1 shot if you have a semi-decent arm, comparing to other holes you have listed.
As far as the tee boxes, I believe you have up to 5 meters behind the front of the box to release, or something like that, I'm sure someone can chime in and confirm this, i just remember going to Boom field a few years back for a tourney, and the Mass guys where saying to just throw from behind the box as you have up to "___" meters behind to throw.
