Hey Fellas,
Things have been happening at Ninigret...There is a foot thick layer of wood chips from the tee to the fence on the pheasant area hole...
With the gracious help of the Union apprentice workers that are helping install the dog park...they had a loader with a four yard bucket and loaded our dump truck for me many, many times...
I estimate that in the last month we have moved and placed approx. 500cubic yards of wood chips....
350+ yards were used in the pheasant area...
Still have close to 500 yards of wood chips still in the stock pile to be used yet elsewhere around the course...
There are but a few things left to do around the course to satisfy the towns liabilty concerns...these will be taken care of soon...
this is what I think will work the best...I have a bunch of brush all over the course that needs to be dragged to a chipper and chipped then we are going to dig holes and install pole holes in the "Back Nine"...
I should have most of the brush... cut and scattered around the course... to be dragged off by the 1st of May...
On May 1st I should be at the park by 8am and chipping brush will be an all day affair...
The following Sat 5/8... I should be at the park at 8am...
We should be able to dig in the anchors...
Install the poleholes...
Play a round on them before dark...
Any one who may have some time and/or desire to help is most welcome for any or all of the afore mentioned projects...
Thanks,
T.M.DYER

WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its nice to have that done! It felt great dropping that last basket in the hole, its been a long time in the making.
The baskets out there look unreal, its been so many years of either no baskets, or stone "wells" for baskets. Its weird seeing metal out there, but weird in a good way.

Figuring people may want to check this place out now that it is pretty much done. We have to do various cleaning up, chipping, etc, but the course is now playable, including the back. One down side to the course is the navigation however we hope to install signs in the near future.
I put together a layout of the course to help newbs get around. Pm me too if you want a tour.
Navigation Tips for Ninigret Park Disc Golf
Hole 1: Next to the hut
Hole 2: left of hole 1 basket
Hole 3: DOES NOT EXIST AT THE MOMENT, try a safari hole
Hole 4: Tees off on the road towards cedar tree. Sand trap and all road are ob
Hole 5: After u finish hole 4, walk across small field towards a path leading to the hole. U can see hole 17s basket, the path is to the left
Hole 6: After u finish 5, take a left down the road to find six and seven
Hole 7: see above
Hole 8: After finishing 7, take a right down the road and hole 8s tee is on the left (New England's biggest teepad)
Hole 9: To the right of hole 8s basket
Hole 10: After finish of 9, walk back towards path on ur right, take a left at end of path to 10's tee.
Hole 11: Path to the right of hole 10's basket
Hole 12: Path to the right of hole 11's basket
Hole 13: Follow path on left of basket, back track down long fairway to Pro tee.
Hole 14: Backtrack slightly, hole 14 is next to 13 on your left
Hole 15: Path on left after 14's basket
Hole 16: Path on left after 15's basket
Hole 17: Proceed straight past the basket, walk out the short path and cross the road to the tee
Hole 18: After 17's basket, walk left down the nature trail and follow the pond. Path to 18 will be on left.

Re: Ninigret Park RI
It sure was nice to get down there and play a couple rounds this weekend. Fun to have almost a full course again.
A few things that caught my eye...
On hole7, why was all the grass burned up like someoned sprayed weed killer all over the ground? Seems like a waste of weed killer when there is enough poison ivy on the course to kill a small child.
Hole 8 has the mando pole that I will never recognize...but it does give the hole a nice carnival feel.
Hole 9 has the pin moved to the left corner, making the hole a boring hyzer. Easy duece and I will get that often.
Hole 10...that pin location is the absolute worst location I have ever seen. My drive made it past the cedars, was 40ft away and had very little chance at the two. Why put the pin right behind a tree on a 400ft hole? Very poor design.
Hole 16 pin is in an easier spot to get to now for the eagle opportunity.
When will all the fine tune trimming get done for the walking paths? I found myself ducking down below ivy and brush just to get to the next tee. The rest of the pin locations were decent and fair...just a couple head scratchers. Can't wait to get some more rounds in on ninigret with metal baskets!

Re: Ninigret Park RI
Thanks to all for the hard work of putting the baskets in.
I have to agree with Matt on couple of things.
10's pin placement is disappointing. You should get rewarded for a great drive.
8's mando...kinda silly. Especially since the basket is not that accessible.
16 is a little easier with the pin moved closer.
Other basket placements on the back are slightly different than before. Not sure why the slight changes but they should work themselves in.
Not sure about the "easy deuce" on 9...let me know how that works out. Definitely an easier two but not a guarantee.
It is hard to get around with all the tall grass and overgrowth. Ticks and poison ivy are everywhere.
It is good to have metal baskets on the course. However, if it is not maintained it will be difficult to take advantage of the upgrade. It's on the verge of unplayable for me at this point.

Re: Ninigret Park RI
Yeah, maybe not an easy 2, but it is one of the easiest on the back 9. When the pin used to be located in the back right of the fairway, I would frequently land right next to or past the scrub tree that the pin is next to. I have played the course three times since the baskets were installed and had the 2 once. If I played the course more often, I would hit that often.
I had a chance at the 3 on 16. I was about 35 ft from the pin. Putt fell a bit short, but we were playing skins and everyone else was shooting 5 or worse. If it were singles, I may have run it a little harder...but it was for 5 skins! How could I not play it safe...I will get that 3 the next time I'm down.

Did you play it with the "mando"?

Re: Ninigret Park RI
Hole 16 doesn't have a mando. The mando you are thinking of is probably on Hole 13. That is the other par 5 on the course. The mando really should be on the right side of the fairway instead of in the middle. Let's describe it for the folks at home.
Hole 13 is 700+ ft, and very narrow fairway, probably 70 ft at it's widest point. After about 500 ft of the hole, there is a dogleg right. Right before the dogleg right is a large tree in the middle of the fairway. To prevent players from throwing to the inside of the tree and avoid the dogleg, a mando was created. However, instead of placing the mando on the right of the fairway at the tree line, it is right in line with the trunk of the tree.

Re: Ninigret Park RI
Hey Fellas,
Ignoring a mando incures a minimum of a two stroke penalty by PDGA rules...
It is interesting that y'all pick on my course design and it is not even finished...
Y'all tresspassed for years and played a bastardized version that someone with out permission from the town set out by vandalizing the course to there own ends...
That tree in the center of the fairway was not in the middle until someone took it upon themselves to completly change the hole by cutting down a bunch of trees, bushes, and brush...I call this vandalism...
I have one thing to say about this mando..."Green Monster"...
I envisioned most of the things that y'all complain about and put on paper and presented it for consideration by the powers be ...
Way back in the year 2000...this is 2010...
You do not even play from what I consider to be the "blue" or most difficult tees...
I think that what y'all think of as "16" has never really rose to the challenge of being a par 5...I think that this hole should probably be a par four...
I am still working on the "fine tuning" have not trimmed for a fair flight on three of the holes in the back...what is known as 12,13, and 14....
the paths between the holes need to be trimmed up and add a nice thick layer of wood chips throughout the course ...
I feel that if we can make the landing areas of the course "mower friendly" and create a pathway from hole to hole for a mowing machine...
then the issues of tall grass and overgrowth can be addressed more easily...
I have found that the wood chips if put out quite thick will hold for quite some time before needing to be mowed...
Now that we can disturb the soil we can put some effort into making these ideas a reality...
I am thinking that cement Tee pads maybe the best bang for the buck...
Maybe we can even set up the pads to heat themselves when the temp falls below 40 degrees...with solar panels and gel cell batteries so cheap...
it would be a snap..bury a 12volt RV style heat tape in the cement pad...
I think it could work...
I hope to get out and mow some on the course...the mowing machines were in other parts of the state before yesterday...I am almost caught up on the mowing for the full time job...
Any body want to throw in for some gas money for the machines????
I hope soon to have some lead time to put out a call for some extra hands to help drag off the brush, spread wood chips, etc...for an organized "work day"...
Right now the chipper is down...needs a new hydraulic pump...when this is back in working order...I look forward to chipping up the brush piles from all over the course...
Stay tuned for late breaking details as to when and how you can help finsh all that needs to be done...
Thanks,
T.M.DYER

I think hole 16 was made considerably easier with the basket moved forward. The blue tee on 9s and 12 (12 especially) are silly and should be changed. That is all.
But anyways.........................................................................................................Nice to have baskets thats for sure. YAWN!!!

Hey TM...
Now that big LISA is gonzo, who is in charge now??
It would be great to have those town folks mow 4, 6, 7. I know we've talked about this in the past.

Hey Ryan,
When we talk to the town about picking up the mowing for the course...
We need to talk with the Town Council...they are who sets the budgets and what might get done inside those budgets...
Whoever took over for Lisa is NOT who to convince...
I want the Town to mow the entire layout not just a couple of holes...until we have them all ready and mower "safe" and "friendly"...not much to bring to the powers that be...
But I have talked with you about all of this a few times....
YAWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks,

Re: Ninigret Park RI
Norm called the other day and asked about Ryan Park, a place I thought would be good for Disc Golf. However, in a conversation with someone from town, there is a group of horse back riders that frequent the northwest end of the park and they apparently know someone with pull who allows them to roam this area. I asked if they could find out what was going on with this area and if the horses were going to be a regular thing for the park. I won't here anything for about two weeks. At that point I could call Norm and give him the scoop.
