One basket almost under water today.
Can play the other if you want to risk a disc.

All holes were playable today. Might as well treat the ice like water, and expect that you won't be getting your disc back if it is out of stick's reach.
Line on hole 10 rip rap is looking great for Tourney 54 on Saturday.
Only really wet/muddy boxes were 3, 13, 14. Earth day can't come soon enough for those!

I was at West Thompson last night, 4/02/2010 and the following holes were totally unplayable.
9
14
15
16
17
18
All six holes are literally under the new expanded version of the lake. Teeboxes, fairways and baskets.
The top of basket nine pokes out of the water - no teebox or fairway at all. The picnic table has drifted out to the rip rap. We had to travel thru the woods and an even swampier than usual hole ten fairway just to get to the #10 teebox.
Fourteen's teebox sits at the edge of the newly biggened lake, as of last night. no fairway or basket.
Fifteen's basket, and it's buddy the huge bush, were both up to their ankles in water. No teebox or fairway on freaking fifteen.
Sixteen's got maybe ten or twenty feet of lawn in front of the teebox, and the peninsula's just not there.
Seventeen is totally submerged, teebox, fairway, basket.
Eighteen's upper area, the part that's mostly level with the dirt road, was dry ... but the woods area and teebox were underwater.

Vandalism at West Thompson Lake on Saturday, May 22, 2010
Sometime on Saturday, May 22, 2010, someone defaced two Corps of Engineers signs on the Recreation Road leading to the Boat Ramp/Disc Golf Course. Someone took it upon themselves to add "Disc Golf" with an arrow to the list of recreation activities on the sign with permanent marker. These signs are valued at approximately $600.00. If anyone has any information on who did this, please contact me, Park Ranger Cathy Dunlap, at 860-923-2982.
On a side note: Myself and a few dedicated volunteers have been putting a lot of time, money, resources, and hard work into the course, and it is a shame that people feel the need to vandalize Corps property. Per request, the Corps of Engineers has provided two trash cans on the course for players to use, and I still find trash left on the course every time I'm out there. We have worked with volunteers to cement some of the tee pads, and continuously add gravel/stone dust to keep them usable. We worked with volunteers to put in new tee signs and provided them with the materials to make this possible. We provide score cards to players, which we make at the Park Office. We mow the grass for the fairways. We replace baskets that are damaged from high water events. We are not obligated to do any of these things.
We post information in the kiosk to provide disc golfers with updated information on the course, and people continue to take posters/papers out of it and post non-Corps information. The kiosk if for Corps-use only.
In the past, other Corps sites have shut down their disc golf courses for a length of time in response to negative actions on the course/property. I hope that we will not be forced to do the same.
Again, please contact me if you have any information on the vandalism of the Corps signs on Saturday, May 22, 2010.

We all have a nice thing going with these Corp Courses...
They seem to welcome us with open arms its a shame some bad apples can ruin a good thing for all..

Re: West Thompson
I see that there is a work day planned for Sunday, July 11th. The Disc Golf Course if closed from Friday July 9th through Sunday, July 11th for the annual Boat Races. The parking for the Boat Races is located in the fields of the Disc Golf Course, and the Drag Boats launch from the sandy area at basket 16. The Boat Ramp/Disc Golf Parking Lot will be closed as well. I would strongly advise a different weekend for the work day. Thank you.

Re: West Thompson
I seen them digging the tee's for concrete on the side near 10 so it wouldn't be near the races.

Re: West Thompson
Did the workday happen?
If not we should arrange something for this weekend. The WTO is coming up and the course could use a once over to pick up trash, move debris if there is any, rake stonedust pads, ect.

Re: West Thompson
I played WT yesterday. The grass is cut pretty low and mowed much more broadly this time around than last time they mowed (Presumably bc of the boat races, before some fairways were really tight IMO).
The non-concrete boxes have all been dug out so that they are nice and level, but they are "level" down at the bottom of the wood pieces that make up the tee box. The front and sides of the box are sticking up four inches above the level of the ground inside the box.
At first I thought that this seemed silly and/or dangerous, but then i thought, maybe there is more concrete being poured soon, and thats why the boxes are dug out like this? I know that most of these holes are shorter holes that dont require a full run-up or landing zone, but I hope the plan is not to leave the Tees like they are now, as they are a liability for sure.
Thanks to all who work on the course! (I try to pitch in by picking up trash during rounds) I do not mean to be critical, but I would like to know what is up with these boxes. (Hooray if it is a sign of more concrete to come!)

Re: West Thompson
FYI - I mowed the course again today.
Littering continues to be an issue. Please deposit your trash/bottles/cans in the trash receptacles provided at Tee 1 and Basket 11. Thanks.

Re: West Thompson
I'm gonna try to get down there at some point this weekend, I have no idea when though, and pick up some trash and do some trimming if needed.
I'll bring a steel rake and shovel and see what I can do about making the lips of the pads a bit more level.
Maybe Sunday league can do a trash round this week?
