I really don't know Mike....

Last year I had posted something about a league, with the details saying it was 5 bucks to play. Then I get a phone call from the head of parks n rec all concerned about this "league" (6-10 players if we are lucky) we are running. I believe TM tipped him off to the post and that is why I was called.

TM has mentioned to me that leagues operate in a "gray area" and technically it is gambling and something the state police could get involved with. Not a good way to promote the sport.

I don't know if it is something personal against all of us or the fact that something is going on at Ninigret and his name is not behind it. Either way, I still like disc golf

And you are the only ones to read through it...

As I have expressed to Ryan and Matt and Mike D and many others...

If you or anyone would like to organize a league at Ninigret Park...

Whoever wants to run a "league" needs to get permission from the town to run it...

I have no control and little influence on what the Town will or will not do...

UNDERSTAND this...When you collect $'s for anything for any reason...the liability of what you are doing goes to a different level...

I cannot understand why people would write some of this stuff down over and over again here on the internet where it is published for the entire world to read...and it is there for how long???

As I have shared on this forum and in person over the many years of this project...

This land belongs to the town...you have to work with in what the Town wants...

Advertising to the world that you are collecting $'s for...this puts the town in an awkward position to protect it citizens liability...

Of course all of this is just me...being a meglomaniac...and if it is not my way...

this type of stuff is very "unclean"...

If there is a true desire to create a "league"...

Get on the agenda for the next P&R meeting and talk to them about...how..what and when...

I have tried to express to you and others for years...this course belongs to the Town of Charlestown...

I can say similar issues at Tully have arose...expect the league there to reduce back to $2 bucks..the acepot..we are lucky to have that..and course/festival fund...side bets will be encouraged in privacy but no forced payout will/can be advertised on kiosk or reported to rangers

I may be the dink that shuts the club down at Tullz....but what I will say leagues IMO have catered to tourney players in recent years..rather the locals! I have seen dramatic decreases at leagues since payouts were added anyways..leagues don't have to have money involved..... just saying guys if ya pitch no $$ to town might get permission

Honestly, I never knew the course belonged to the town

I thought it was the sole possession of a man on a mission to make the course/park his, not take any input from anyone, discourage help if it meant not doing everything he wanted, etc....it has all been said before.

Sorry, but that isn't good course design! Neither is setting up a mandotory on a 700ft+ hole by installing a giant green plastic fence. The reason for the mando makes sense; to prevent errant shots from landing on the tee of another hole. If the mando was placed at the 90 degree bend (the old pine tree) forcing shots to the left of the mando, it would be more effective! Countless people have voiced this, but it falls on ears that don't care to listen. Hope to see you out there for a round sometime.

We got some great press in the ProJo on Mon Pres Day...

I played today with the P&R Director and the Providence Journal reporter...

It is disheartening to see all of the large broken branches all over the course...

We have some players who have no respect for the plant life on the course...just bend till it is broken... push it over...then stomp on it...and leave it there hanging half twisted off...

If you are going down to play at Ninigret...Please Do Not Block the Wood Chips...

Please park out by the road where the new " Parking" signs are...

Wood Chips are being delivered by tree crews doing electric line clearance work in the local area...

They will be in the area for the next 6 or 8 wks...

We will moving all of these chips out onto the course...the walking paths from hole to hole...and many other places as we smooth out the ground surfaces to make them more "mower friendly"...

Need to dig the post holes for the 4x4 posts at all of the red/short and blue/long tees for the new tee signs...

We will post here and on the course about upcoming volunteer work days for the Disc Golf Course at Ninigret Park...


Cement Tee pads is the next thing that we are moving toward...have some cool ideas about how to do it...working on some mock up test stuff this weekend...

Should be fun to see how it works out...

Can anyone answer what "mower friendly" means? I mean I work for a highway department and we can mow pretty much around anything. But anyways I guess I get to learn something new.

And it is disheartening when u see broken branches all over the place, ill toss them deeper in the thickets when I come across them. If there was only a way to help prevent this?

Nice and were gonna get the new nefa grant signs sweet!!! I got a buddy with a 6" auger I might be able to get, i can be there sat morning TM. If that fits in ur schedule of planing for tee pads. Or if u just mark them out I can go down when ever and get the posts in the ground, cause I'm guessing ur gonna use the posts on old 8. I just hope some of the new ones aren't goin in the middle of the fairway like some of the olds, it always suxks getin stuck under one of them after it looked to be a great drive.

But let me kno when to swing down to lend a hand!

I've heard the term used by the mower guy at J-Park....... basically it helps make his life easier if the tee pads are flush with the grass so he can roll over them with no damage to the mower. I realize that he needs to go around the signpost but that was the answer I got to "what is mower friendly" We're also planning to add some trees and bushes to eliminate some sight-line issues and mower guy wants to have input there so his tractor fits in and around the new plants.

Just curious and in my opinion (dare I have one) putting a sign on the open tee that shows the players the complete hole layout, indicating all available tees not only looks better but saves money that can be used for other projects.

I cannot speak for Ed...

But one of Ed's big deals on putting in a course is that the signage and tee development should be from the shortest or Novice tees,(newest players) should be put in first and any amenities for the longest tees should be in place for those shortest tees(newest players)as welll...

How is it "growing the sport" that we should probably expect the newest players to go to the longest tees to figure the course out...

I had a great shot down the fairway...but a tee sign that I can see before I throw is stopping my great drive...

I have hit the short sign on my drive from the blue tee at what use to be hole #one at Ninigret more times than I can count...

I always felt that I missed my shot because I let my eyes focus on the sign instead of the "open air" of the fair way...

But I guess throwing in an open soccer field is so much more fun...nothing in the way of that "great drive"....

There are an abundance of fields like that at Ninigret...have at it if that is what floats your boat...

I feel that the course it there to test your throwing skills...if you do not throw at or under the sign...then it will not effect your "great drive"...

And how are the 4x4 posts any more in the way to break your hand on... than any other rock or tree or other solid object anywhere on the course...

TM that’s all well and good to have your own Opinion on what makes up a “great course”, but I am trying to giving you a chance of help to get all the holes dug and poles in the ground. All you have to do is pick a day to meet me there, or go on your leisure with a can of spray paint and draw a mark where they go. I can manage the rest without your immediate supervision.

I mean I am well qualified to install signs, seeing I do run the sign Department for the Town of Narragansett.

I mean I just want Nini to be a better and better place. And do my part to "growing the sport"

I remember some real works of "art" that i created a couple of years ago, a complete set of: to scale, deadly accurate, multi color, weather resistant, w/ posts, arrows to next tee, several hrs. each to make, FREE to everyone but me, go Fyourself and the F'n town.

I have a hard time making it to ninigret Matt because of my wifes work schedule and having young kids. Whenever i do make it, its usually when i get off work early and i shoot over there and power down a round before it gets dark. When do you usually throw? Ive met a couple guys there so far and they were all nice guys, but ive never seen the same guys twice. I know T.M. as well and he throws with me whenever our schedules align. He was very friendly and i really appreciated the tour he gave me when i first moved here and knew absolutely nobody. Hopefully with the days getting longer i will be able to get more rounds in at ninigret. I try and get to the object course in Newport on sundays, but even that is hard. I have such a good time, even though i get ate up by poison ivy and thorns. The course i learned to play on in california is so wide open, i have a hard time here with shot placement. Ninigret is so challenging, i like to see how others approach certain holes. There are holes there i still havent pared even once. Is this your home course Matt? Im hopefully helping with the tee pads here soon and that is something ive wanted to do for years now. I worked for a company in california that did decorative concrete, so i think i have alot to offer in terms of writing on the concrete and coloring the pads. Im not sure if concrete is done differently here because of the weather and salt in the air, but I know a fellow named Matt Reed who will have alot of input on such a project. You out there Matt Reed? Anyways, more signs and some tee pads will be awesome. I like the idea of the wood chips being spread on the pathways and such but im curious as to how long that lasts before it kind of disappears. Hope to see you out there sometime Matt. Have you ever hit an ace at Ninigret? I see some holes that are begging to be aced.

I understand that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but when I see such a negative post, I assume that the writer is undereducated and not a nice person. Granted, I haven't met Jason, so I really shouldn't jump to conclusions. I try to not be too reactive or negative on this forum because I wouldn't want someone who hasn't met me thinking poorly of me, then when we get paired up at a tournament or league they would already think I'm a jerk. Luckily, I knew Titan and Buttons before they were posting on NEFA. I guess, I feel that you get more bees with honey.
