Good call on the REI thing. I forgot that we are members and have been ordering stuff through amazon.

After blowing through keen, Merrell and vasque shoes I rolled the dice on Adidas's gore tex hiking shoes and I dont think i will stray for the near future. The only reason i am getting new ones is because the sole is starting to pack in after a year of supporting my fat ass. the tread is still fully attached and there are no tears in the upper. The Goretex started to let a little bit of moisture through but they are still pretty resistant to water.

I will be pulling the trigger on one of these 3 in the near future.

Here's what REI offers in the GTX line.

As for full on winter boots I have been wearing Bogs. Light, warm and almost indestructible. I was initially concerned that there were no laces to cinch your foot in but they haven't been a problem.

I've been a member at REI for years, so I think it is time to pop down to Framingham to get some winter boots. Warm and dry feet really makes a day of TC much better. RB, feel free to come on down for the road trip. It is always a crapshoot buying boots on line.
Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that disc getting bigger?". Then it hits me.

I'll probably go to the one in Reading, that way I can go during work hours.

In the summer I go with Five Ten Aescents. Very light, breathable with climbing rubber for the soles. I've never had better grip on the course.

I don't know if you can get them without Gore-Tex, but the Vibram soled Lowas are money. I use Renegade's in the winter and the feet stay dry through anything. Before I switched to the Five Ten's I wore the Renegades full time and it took me 5 years to wear through the Vibram sole.

^^ Lowa renegades are awesome. Been using high tops in winter for about 4 years now, with no signs of wearing out(since I pretty much only wear them in winter). I used low top renegades during the other 3 seasons for a few years, but recently switched to Solomon non gtx for better breathing...and a much cheaper price.

I just happened to notice that Mens Lowa Renegades (mid GTX) are going to be on sale on Amazon (lightning deal) starting at 10:30pm tonight (Weds, 12/3/14). I don't know what the price will be, but those lightning deals are usually pretty good.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003UM1T00/ref=gb1h_img_c-2_7042_6c654dc3?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1NGZVS20EZ4696F9A4DZ&pf_rd_i=5550342011&pf_rd_p=1990147042

That's the link to the product info. To find the lightning deal click on the little "Cyber Monday" link at the top right of the page and then scroll right until you get to 10:30pm.

Edit: FYI, they were on sale for $165.00 for roughly 2 hours. Back to $225.00 now.
