Good call on the REI thing. I forgot that we are members and have been ordering stuff through amazon.
After blowing through keen, Merrell and vasque shoes I rolled the dice on Adidas's gore tex hiking shoes and I dont think i will stray for the near future. The only reason i am getting new ones is because the sole is starting to pack in after a year of supporting my fat ass. the tread is still fully attached and there are no tears in the upper. The Goretex started to let a little bit of moisture through but they are still pretty resistant to water.
I will be pulling the trigger on one of these 3 in the near future.
Here's what REI offers in the GTX line.

As for full on winter boots I have been wearing Bogs. Light, warm and almost indestructible. I was initially concerned that there were no laces to cinch your foot in but they haven't been a problem.
