Absolutely not, you either buy into the ace pot or you play for a high-five from your card mates.

If I've said it once, I've said it at pretty much every tournament I've played in. You don't buy into the ace pot to win it, you buy into it to NOT be the guy who hits an ace and doesn't get paid.

Along the ace pot theme: I don't think this needs to be a rule, because TDs should have discretion, but it really makes things go more smoothly if there is a mandatory ace pot as part of sign up. I think the rule should be if you make an ace pot mandatory as part of sign up, then the ace pot should be handed out (in some fashion at the discretion of the TD) at the event.

Again, mandatory ace pots is not my suggestion, but some alignment if mandatory to enter one, it should be mandatory to pay it out with not carrying it over...

TD Freedom all is good if stated ahead of sign ups.

As someone who is planning on playing AM events next year, I don't have expectation for money (funny or otherwise). I feel like that is a perk of playing in Pro Divisions. I am cool with a decent player pack, good food and a well run event! As far as part of my money going to Pro side or NEFA or whatever, I don't care. I want to see the course cover its expenses, I want NEFA to be a fiscally strong organization. Frankly I feel like I am paying my dues as am AM2 and I am fine with it.

The other option is take the money and include Heady Toppers in every player pack for AMs. Just a thought….

I also play Am events, and will again in the future. I thought this years series and finals were amongst the best ever. Quality events that culminated with a fantastic championship. Well done gentlemen!
This thread is about suggestions for next season, so here are a couple:
1. Declare yourself a Pro or an AM, no more double dipping in the two fields. However if you qualify as an Am1,Am2 and Am grandmaster or as a Pro Open and Pro Master that should still fly.
2. Improve the player packs for the finals. I got sooooo much in funny money that it was a little embarrassing. Spread that out to the other qualifiers in the form of NEFA Finals gear. Shirts, hats, discs, etc.
3. Can we get a keg of beer for the after party? Its not a PDGA event and a beer amongst friends after would have been nice. The food was fantastic, but most guys enjoy a glass of suds after the round...ladies too!
4. Any NEFA point TD should be granted automatic entry to finals. Without them we dont have a series.
5. Trophies for the winners, keep the Am payouts (kinda the same as #2)

Okay, thats my .02

Rewarding td's with entry to the championship is a great idea. Not only as a reward , but as way to build the event and get the hardworking td's excited about all the possibilities.

I personally like the idea BUT i'm looking at this years' calendar and there are about 40 different TDs that ran NEFA events. Takes a substantial bite outta the total invites.

How many invited versus 'shows' at this years finals? Maybe you count running an event as one or two 'played' events and make it easier for those that work for NEFA to be part of the finals?

maybe give the TD a certain (or minimum, if they also play) amount of points in the event they run? (just for Finals standings, not Points-series).

I like the td idea. Think there would be much less impact than you would think on invites. Most td's would qualify anyway or not show.

They just do so much for us, we need to include them in finals. Both days had PLENTY of room for a few dedicated volunteers.
Just give them the event towards qualifying. No Points, no end of season payouts.

And BEER, lets get them (and me) some BEEEEEEEEEEER!

I like the idea of rewarding TDs. If not giving them credit for their event (whether they play or not) in the standings, then how about a second tier invitation to finals? Same old same old invitation system, but after a period of pre-reg (a week, a few days, whatever) for those earning invitations the old fashioned way, the next wave of invited players is the TDs. At the very least, you're filling in the field where the players aren't.

Or perhaps a TD only event separate from finals? Just something to gather the season's TDs together to show some appreciation and perhaps allow for some idea sharing and direct feedback on the series as a whole. Competitive rounds optional but surely appreciated.

The PDGA is doing this now for its TDs and volunteers with the Directors Cup. It's a free event just for TDs featuring a two round tournament, seminars, food, and plenty of time to socialize and share thoughts with other TDs and of course, the PDGA staff themselves. They started the event last year and their goal is to have it branch out into regional events in the same vein (so we don't all have to trek to GA every time).

Rough count of this years' TDs is 41.
Only a handful of those played the NEDGC this year.
Maybe paid entry could bring a few more ?

I really wanted to make it to the Directors Cup this year. Hope to see it branch out regionally, I'd even host the event.

Thanks for the feedback. I think the food was great as well. Pizza Chef in Millbury was the hook up ...

We discussed providing beer but decided against it. While it would have been nice it would have been a huge liability for NEFA. Next year it would be good to work on a having a 3rd party source provide some adult beverages ...
