Newman showed me the planned new holes over the weekend, and they are gonna be AWESOME!

New hole#11 will play from the tee of hole#11 to the basket of hole#13 - a 750 foot pro par five hole through beautiful white pine forest and which will eliminate the cluster---- that is currently hole 17 and holes 11-13. The hole will be eagle-able with two mammoth drives and a jump putt, and three accurate throws + a putt should net a birdie for most skilled players. The best line to the basket is to place a drive in the ample landing area beyond the current basket of hole#11, but to get there golfers need to throw an aggressive left-to-right drive, and shots which turn over too much can carry down the hill and into thick rough. Drives which fade off left don't offer much of a line at all to the polehole and golfers will need to scramble and get creative from that position. The safe play is to land a drive near the current pin of hole#11, throw an upshot to somewhere in front of the teepad of the current hole#13, then get up-and-down for the birdie four. The options are going to be interesting and FUN on this great, great hole.

New hole#12 - current hole#14, the 622 ft pro par four hole.

New hole#13 - a straight shot and fun ace run of about 250 feet. After the "Amen's Corner" portion of the course and "Murderer's Row" of holes 10-12 which is a pro par four hole, followed by a pro par five hole, and then another pro par four hole, golfers will appreciate a chance to get a shot back.

New hole#14 - After crossing the field, this pro par four will start with a very tight wooded gauntlet shot of about 240' to a landing area. From there, it's only another 240 feet out into the open where the polehole will however be guarded on three sides by foliage to punish errant upshots. Unlike holes #10 and #14, but similar to holes #4 and #18, smart accurate play and not brute force / distance are the only requirements to earn a birdie.

Hole#15-#18: rejoins the existing course. Due to movement and construction of the new bathrooms, hole#18 will however have a new tee location within 50' of the old location.

Can't wait!

Can I please get an update on the tee signs? BoD is having a meeting this weekend and I'd like to have a status to report.
Last i can find is that the signs were on their way in June. I saw a sample sign back at FDR Ice Bowl and it looked really good!

Dear Sandy and NEFA board members,

Please accept this as a small grant application for the new tee sign project at FDR Park, Yorktown, NY, that I am working on.

FDR is a popular and well established public course in Northern Westchester County in NY State. 18 discatchers, FLY 18 rubber tee pads, nice course, nice park. The course has never had decent signs. For the past 10 or so years I have created near primative signs, laminated them at staples and staple them to existing wooden posts. They weather, they look like crap, and then I replace them, Not permanent and frankly embarassing to the course and to disc golf in general. The course deserves a lot better and this is why I have undertaken this project and why I ask for NEFA’s support.

I have begun work with the graphic designer who created the art work for the signs at Wolfe’s woods in Warwick, NY. I also have received donations and pledges to make donations from several players, as well as collecting $ from disc sales proceeds. I currently have $950 collected/pledged. I project the cost of the signs and the artwork/graphics/installation will total over $1500. Of course NEFA would be acknowledged in all course sponsor signs, scorecards, in the info kiosk etc.

I likely will use John Borelli to fabricate the signs, using the same process/materials that he used for the signs at his former course in Devins, Massachusetts.

If there is any $ left over, I will apply it to my other ongoing project which is the construction of benches for all holes at FDR. This work is being done in cooperation with a local Boy Scout as his Eagle Scout project.

After fundraising is complete and the art work is ready to go, I hope to complete the tee sign project by having shiny new and permanent signs in place within 2-3 months.

Should you see fit to help fund the tee sign project, please mail a check to:

The art work is near completion. The artist got a full time and demanding job and this has slowed things down. He promised to send me the completed art on a disc Ina few days. Then it will go to the Manufacturer and hopefully we will be installing them shortly.
