Dave
I was out in Tolland and stopped by the complex.
I walked and threw discs to the lower parking lot, I was impressed with what you guys had mapped out after finding 18 and kind of weaved backwards but wasn't sure where hole 1 started. Saw 2 beautiful deer walking around back there.
I would like to offer my sweat for any work day, just let me know what tools are needed.

Well, it appears our Eagle Scout will not be available to participate in the project given his timeline of commitments, so the main forces behind the project will be Tolland Parks and Rec, and volunteers.
Once Tom A. is able to gather town resources for some of the more extensive tree cutting and clearing, we'll be of help grooming the fairways. Hopefully they have a chipper they can use to help with wet spots and pin areas. We'll bring Chipchase in return.
If I were to guess, and it's only a guess, perhaps by late March work will start in earnest.

workdays
I suspect that the first workdays will be in March, unLes winter gives up early. We are hopeing that the parks people will start things by removing flagged trees. Our Eagle scout hopeful gave up trying to help us. He seemed to be too impatient to get things started and nothing could be done given the time of year.
Still calling for donations.......
Any help financially will be put to good use.
I'll let you all know when we are willing to move foreward.

Funds needed
The comittment we made to help out the parks and rec folks is to raise funds for 6 baskets. Additional funds would be used to offset costs of signage, tee boxes, scorecards, etc. NEFA will sponsor one basket to the tune of about $300 (thanks auction spenders). The balance due to parks and recs is in the vicinity of $1500.
I have comittments from some (including myself) to help out with the cost of baskets. Those that have a verbal comittment with me, it would be a good time to send monies. Checks should be sent to me: Leslie Sinnock @ 57 Lake Shore Blvd. Stafford, CT. 06076. I will bank all monies until I reach critical mass-at which point I will make the full donation to the parks and rec of Tolland. I will post all donations received here. I will also forward the names and size of donations to parks and rec in the hopes of some recognition in either the scorecard or signage.
No donation, no matter how small, will go to waste. Thanks in advance for your support. Remember, this will be a free place to play, it will be hard to raise funds once this place is open. Be generous and give to a good cause. Thanks again. - Les

I'm happy to announce our first donation collected. Thanks to Bill Stapleton for a very generous $275.00.
I promise to personally donate $500.00 toward the effort.
Please, all that have pledged to help out, now would be a good time.
We are almost half way there.
Thanks again Bill !!

NEFA has $400 waiting for the Tolland course. Please contact my office at 860.676.4348 for details. Basically, I'm needing a copy of the purchase order/receipt of the basket purchase - but I have a couple of other details to discuss with you as well.

yes it's time
Sorry, for not paying attention for a couple of weeks there. It's the first flurry of activity here for awhile.
(Ace) yes we start work soon. I just got an e-mail from Tom Ainsworth at Tolland Parks and Rec, stating: Thank you Steve Ditterman for your generous donations (Pledges, the time is now, thanks). The parks people have cleared a couple of holes but are now busy setting up their parks for softball, etc. They said for us to hold tight and it will get done - soon. However, I'd like to organize a work day to do basic brush and deadwood clearing. I'll post momentarily, let me make sure I'm not competing with anything first before I post.
(Deuce) Lickmeister, probably best if you donate direct with Tolland Parks and Rec. via Tom Ainsworth (director). As he ordered the baskets direct, he would be the one with the receipts. Contact via: tainsworth@tolland.org - thanks
(par) Please hold on all who are anxious to join us in getting this off the ground. This will happen (for sure). They have the baskets, they have the park and a design to work with. Once they get organized with their parks for the upcoming season, they will get to work, and we will get to work, to make this another great course in the region.
(dreaded bogey) In lieu of this new course, we should all be at Wickham, helping out and playing like crazy. Me, on Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:30ish. Hope to see you there. If people need to contact me directly (but sparingly - please) try me at: brewles@netscape.com. Thanks.
Feel free to donate direct to Tolland parks and rec or to me (I promise to pass all $ along), see address in recent post (above). See you all soon and look for post on upcoming workday.

Workday April 8, 2006
I've put in a request to have a workday at the new course with the park administrator. Hopefully, they'll have us. Anyway, hope you can make it. Saturday, April 8 starting 10:00am running til whenever. As far as I know, nobody will buy us lunch at present, however we can pitch in and get some pizzas and refreshments. Bring implements of destruction, rakes, pruners, etc. no power tools please. Hope you all can make it.
If there are enough on hand and if things go quickly enough we can attempt a first round. This will require everyone to bring portable baskets.
Directions: located in scenic Tolland, CT. minutes off I-84. Take exit 68 head east on Rt.195. Pass new Big Y supermarket on right. Come to stop light at junction with gas station and bank. Take a left onto Rhodes road. Go up hill go straight through stop sign then shortly thereafter look on left side for Cross Farms recreation facility. Drive down to the last parking area.
Hope to see you there. Please post back on this thread or call me 684-5481 .

Les All depending on a possible conference or career fair on Saturday I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it but will let you know by Thursday....

sometime soon
Well, we have had two sparsely attended workdays so far. A lot of work has been done. We are currently waiting for the Tolland parks people to get out there and do some tree and brush pile removal. After that there will be some more work to do on our part. Basic cleanup, course tweaks, etc.
I was told that the parks people would be out there last week doing some work, but I haven't gotten any word as to whether they actually did the work. I will contact them to try and find out more.
I agree, let's get this party started.
Any time you feel the itch to do some work, feel free to go out to the course. The fairways are all flagged. we are primarily trying to remove sticks, deadwood and very small saplings. I can give further instructions if you are interested.
Ultimately, it is in the parks dept.'s hands to get things going. I have given them money, instructions, maps, workers and everything else that they would need to go foreward. What else can I do but wait? Sorry, but we are all in the same boat here with regards to getting this going.
