I still have not received a SINGLE letter of support, as I requested weeks ago. Please take a few moments and send me an email (Mjbdisc@aol.com) that you support the course and that you plan to play there.

Robert McMahon is the Park Manager and in charge. Here is a letter I just received, thanks Pete, if people want to use it for some ideas.
February 19th, 2009
Dear Mr. McMahon:
I am an avid disc golfer. I play year round, several times a week and love the sport. I recently heard that Roger Williams Park was considering installing a course. This would be a great addition to an already outstanding park. With my family I already visit the park for the zoo, botanical gardens, and carousel. The disc golf course will be another great reason to visit. I know so many disc golfers who always comment that there are so few courses in Rhode Island and what a shame that is. Roger Williams will be the perfect location. It is a beautiful park and a disc golf course will complement it nicely. As I said, I know a number of players including myself that want to see this happen. I would play there weekly. I would also be willing to help with donations of my time and money to make this happen. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Peter Violet

An email is fine.
Yes, the park originally approached Norm about installation but there is nothing guaranteed, particularly when it comes to money. They want to feel comfortable that we are a viable, committed organization willing to help out with youth clinics and maintenance and that there is sufficient interest to justify the expense.
I can tell you that, although we hope the Park will pick up the majority of the cost, they specifically asked us how much money we can contribute as part of the proposal. IMO, the more money we can put up, the better the chances installation will happen sooner rather than later.
Personally, I am hoping we can commit AT LEAST $2500 to help the Park buy the baskets. We plan to recommend the purchase of 18 gateway titans, as they are the least likely to be destroyed, and we will be responsible for replacement. They cost about $450 each but are super sweet. If you are willing and able to help out financially, please let me know. I am sure we will recognize your efforts in an appropriate way when the course is installed.
I am also curious what kind of financial assistance we can expect from NEFA. It seems to me that more of our membership and tourney fees should go back into growing more courses and less into the Points Series. I know other clubs who are able to go to local parks and say that if they are willing to have a course, they will pay and install it themselves. I realize that is not a reality right now for NEFA, but the more resources NEFA can commit, the easier it will be to get more courses in the ground in the future.
Anyways, this course when installed will be great year-round, as it is minutes off 95 and the park is gorgeous. Snow does not last as long around here so it will be ideal in the winter when other courses, like Borderland which is only 30 minutes away, are covered with snow and ice.
Money talks, so who is willing to step up?

Hey Todd,
I am still in Arkansas...
Have been here since Sat. ready to work..everyday the powers that be down here say we will be ready for you to work tommorrow...
I along with some 75 tree trucks waitng to help clean up the damaged trees...
Should be home in a week or so...
Hey Matt,
Love you calling NEFA to task about where and how all the $ raised are being used in the points series..
It was "voted " on this year that having a one or two dollar per player donation come back to the Nefa kitty to do things like RWP ...
NO was the result of the vote...
I will kick in $100.00 of my own hard earned cash...
Let us all put our $ where our mouths are...
Since I have some free time to sit here and "hurry up and wait"...
I will compose a letter of support and get it to you very soon...
Thanks,
T.M.DYER

The good news is that RWP has given us preliminary approval to install a course. The bad news, not surprisingly, is that they have no money and we will have to install baskets at our own expense.
NEFA has agreed to pay for 1 basket for every 9 installed. We also have a few people, myself included, who are willing to buy baskets estimated to cost around $400-$500 each with the concrete/sleeve/signs. If you, or a group of people, are willing to donate any sum of money or have a basket you are willing to donate, please contact me directly via PM.
Rhode Island is maybe the only state in the whole USA that does not currently have an 18 hole course so lets all work together to make this course happen.

kepp em' crossed!!
If things go the way we're hoping,we will be putting sleeves in the ground very soon, but yes when we get around to ammenities like signs that will some how become a possibility.
Tomorrow we may know more,as of today what was little here in Rhody has become even less, when it looked just a few months ago like there was going to be MORE disc golf around here, some where we started going backwards.
But historcally RIslanders have endured and found a way to push through and wheather the storm, and so like our forefathers we will rally and rise to put Disc Golf on the map in between the borders our tiny yet noble state known as the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations!!!!!!!!

Or they move out of the state and go play Borderland. I'm following in other Rhode Islanders footsteps.

"Travelin' Every Weekend" shirts available from J Graham. $15 a piece in two catchy colors with a sweet design. To support Ninigret disc golf
But seriously, hopefully this is only a temp thing. I like the optimism in the air however fingers are crossed.
By the way Matt, Jay and I went to Bland on Monday and those tees are great. Props to all those who have been working on them, they feel really good and are solid in construction.

Re: Roger Williams Park D.G.C.
I am down to get this movement going again, I have a bunch of friends around who i have gotten hooked on the sport and i can help get fundraiser stuff going. I would love to help teach disc golf to anyone so if the park wants something back from the players, there it is.

Whatever happened to the fund raiser disc that people paid for over a year ago. How come still no course. Have you asked for help from nefa. They give cash to courses. Just curious.

Re: Roger Williams Park D.G.C.
If memory serves me correctly it fell apart when some of the people from the park pulled a fast one. Something about them not realizing it was permanent or something like that.

Gary is correct, this project fell apart after much work and redesign after redesign.
Joe, not sure what discs you are referring to. Norm had discs he was selling which were separate from the RIDGC's tags.

Somewhere over the rainbow!!!
Yes there was a college effort here for a moment, and all the funds that were raised(through disc's and tags) are still sitting and awaiting the very first oppourtunity we get for a course here in RI (hint, hint),there have been a few nibbles this summer and there are still some semi warm irons on the fire, hopefully there will something to report soon and thank you for giving me a chance to clear that up for everyone-Norm

Any news on the RI movement? The news on Pulaski brought me back to this thread. Is the Roger Williams dream over?

The dream of a permanent course may be over, but a temporary layout for a tournament is definitively a possibility, so I've been told.

Re: Roger Williams Park D.G.C.
That is true, for small permit fee(around 50 bucks) we can own RWP for the day for an event,it would have to be scheduled and people power behind to pull it off!!

I will be running a disc golf expo/introduction program during the Ronald McDonald House Walk on May 6th here. This could help get some much needed attention on disc golf in RI. Come show up and help out.
