Now perhaps the rule should be tweaked to say "intentional and unnecessary" before a penalty is applied

Agreed. This was going to be an intentional and calculated swatting on my behalf if that disc didn't start to flex. I was two steps away, I saw the throw, I saw it flip, I took a step closer just incase. Last thing I need is to let him get hit and get sued for failing to be a good samaritan or more realistically being known as the guy who let someone else get driven to the noggin while I just stood there arm's distance and watched.

I'd hope people understand the purpose and not worry about the rules like that. If someone calls me on that and tries to apply a penalty, my next drive is going towards their head and I won't be there to block it.

The way it was presented was a potential unconscious reaction it happened so fast. The question would be when does "intent" start?

That's the million dollar question. I had no intent of swatting his disc prior to the throw. Only once it was in the air and I put 2 and 2 together did I start to react.

Sorry to hear about the hand. I wish you a speedy recovery. You can always decide to throw with the correct (right) hand in the meantime.

Thanks, Matt. Backhand Lefty...Flick Righty....don't ask! The righty flick wouldn't have made it, and my tomohawk (also right-handed) would not have been close at all. I got it to about 30-35ft and hit the putt 8-)

Funny too, because it was my righty flick that got us to the base of the tree...

Glad someone else is as screwed up as me. Lefty backhand, righty overhand and flick. And I putt righty.

Same here. Lefty backhand, righty flick. I always threw lefty but hit baseballs and golf balls right-handed.

This is actually very common. My son does the same thing and I believe Brent does as well. That is pretty good evidence that lefties have a few loose wires in their heads.

How many righties can even attempt a lefty flick? I threw one once... it was pretty funny.

It's from playing baseball. I bat righty and that's where I generate all my torque.

If I were throwing from the outfield i'd throw overhand, infield i'd throw sidearm hence the righty flick.

We are in the RULES thread here so what's the ruling? Just plain odd?
