Thanks for the kind words. It's nice to get some early opinions from people who have played other courses. We hope putting in the extra effort to open the course looking as if it has been there for a long time (no brush piles or gross evidence of recent construction) will go a long way toward players taking care of their course.

Just a quick update. We have been busy this month and we are happy to announce the first 4 holes are 100% ready for baskets. Number 5 is about 75% roughed in and should be done in the next week or so. We have also received permission to accept volunteer help and are looking forward to moving ahead at a faster pace. Sooo... anyone interested in pitching in let us know!

Jason, NEFA wants to help. Here's information about our grant program:

NEFA $400 Grant Program

Requirements:
-Course must be Non pay to play and open to the public.
-Completed the purchase of 9 baskets (Provide copy of Receipt).
-NEFA gets an ad/listing on a Tee pad, Basket or Kiosk. Provide explanation of where ad will go.
-Provide a written explanation of the plan for the money and when the work will be complete.
-Have completed the work within 24 months or money is due back to NEFA.
-Provide the Name the check is to made payable to.
-Provide address to send check.

Hey Rob, Thats great news considering the course is 100% funded by means of private donation. We certainly can meet all of the requirements with the exception of the placement of the NEFA name. The town has some restrictions (we are hoping to change for the back 9) as to posting the sponsor's name on a tee sign or basket. We have circumvented this by placing the sponsor on the scorecard/course map. I hope this will be sufficient. Please let me know and I will be sure to contact you with all of the needed info.

As far as course news: We have just roughed in 6 and it should take about 3 or 4 hours to have it basket ready (Thanks Scot). We have to finish the basket area on 5 and remove all the brush piles to have 6 holes ready to go. Hole 4 is a hard dogleg right with a broken old growth tree (snapped about 15 feet up) that forms a space to launch a drive under the remaining trunk (pretty cool). 5 is a 360+ slight left that has proved to be the most challenging to clear. 6 is a very cool uphill to a well protected basket. The fairway starts out level and then shoots uphill at a fairly steep angle. It is split down the middle by two old growth trees that will force you to choose a port or starboard course. We have recently been approved to allow high school students in need of community service hours to volunteer at the course (a real hands on intro to disc golf). Thats all for now, we will be there this weekend so feel free to check out the progress.

I've communicated with our officers and we've come to the conclusion that if the scorecard is the only way to go at this point in time that it would be fine however if something changes in the future, that we'd like to be included in that.

You are pretty much good to go once we get an application for the grant from you ... just one thing that the BOD would like to see would be that anyone who is applying for/receiving NEFA grants are NEFA members themselves. Update... We should have 5 + 6 completed by the end of next weekend. That has us two thirds of the way to our goal. We are hoping to order baskets within the next week or so.

course update: It's been a couple of weeks since we last updated but that doesn't mean we weren't busy on the course. Holes 1-6 are 100% basket ready. I am on the phone as I type placing an order for 9 chainstars. Hole 7 is roughed and in our plans for this weekend. Can't wait to hear the chains rattle at the Flying Ace!

(not polished but playable) Anyone know a welder who would be willing to donate some time to tack the baskets to the poles. The locking collar secures the pole but it only seems to take a couple of adjustable wrenches to swipe the goods (We most certainly will truck them back and forth).

We battled with doing this at Vets too, but ran out of time. I don't know of that many courses around here that do this. Ideally it would be a disc golfer that would steal a basket and ideally disc golfers would want to play rather than steal. Or maybe I have too much faith. Also heard that the fumes are wicked toxic, so please be careful.

I used a thread lock gel when assembling the baskets for Page Park, supposedly it makes it so it would require ridiculous torque to get the screw going again. Also used one-way screws where possible, and as a final touch, hammer the hell out of the end of the bolt to ruin the thread. Maybe some of these could help deter...

Thanks for the tip. We had a friend go ahead and tack all the hardware. There is no way to really secure these things. No matter what you do to the pole, hardware, or anchor method it wont stop any of today's cordless tools. If someone really wants test the laws of karma they will.
