it seems that some of the ref's are making some questionable calls

or am i just not watching the games right?

A lot of refs are making 'interesting' calls to say the least.

Frizzak, I agree. I almost think the US should stack their backfield for the first 15 minutes to prevent early goals and build up the attack as they get more comfortable out there. If they weren't getting in holes early they could have come up with a couple W's.

Another thing about their D is the fact that Oneyu still does not look 100% to me. His first step seems REAL slow.

listened to the game on ESPN Radio driving from Hartford back to my office ... it sounded like the US men were all over the Algerians and the goalie (who admittedly the announcers said was playing fantastically) the entire second half ... honestly, it was FAR MORE riveting on the radio than to watch on TV, and SO MUCH better than listening to any baseball game. Not to mention the announcers weren't John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman ...

The U.S. victory was nice, but the Paraguayan girl is the star of the World Cup so far:

I love Sterling as much as any announcer ... but I want to murder Suzyn Waldman in her sleep ... or at least rip out her tongue so I never have to hear her speak ...

I don't know what game I'm more excited about. Brazil vs Portugal or Spain vs Chile. Should be two of the best games of the group stage. Although I can't imagine it being more exciting then the USA's last game.

on a related note ... watched ESPN's newest 30 for 30 documentary last night on DVR: "The Two Escobars" ... about Pablo Escobar and Andres Escobar (the guy who scored the own goal in the USA-Colombia match in the 1994 World Cup). Superb film-making here, and a must watch in this already fantastic documentary series.

I recorded that and started watching it... only got through the first 5 mins, but man, just what the Columbian team was saying was going through their minds before that match. It's no wonder they lost. I remember feeling so stoked the US won that game, now I don't know how to feel really, know that.

Gotta finish watching the rest soon.

still bumming about the US loss on saturday.

so who's everyone rooting for now? I've always been a Dutch fan and one of my favorite games all time was Netherlands vs Brazil in '94. Looks like be might get a rematch of that in a few days.

Although, I am hope Chile gets Brazil out. I'd be completely happy if all the 'World Powers" got knocked out early.

From a monetary viewpoint I'm rooting for Spain.

From a soccer fan viewpoint I'm rooting for Uruguay and Chile aka Spain Light.

From a stupid comment by me viewpoint, if Uruguay or Paraguay play in the finals or vs Brazil at any point I have to rock a Guay pride scarf at the Brazilian Bar and Grille.

If she promised a 'date' with every player on Paragauy I don't see how they could possibly lose.

Go small Central American country that no one ever thought about until last week!

Oh sure, if she does it she's a hero. But I do the same thing through the halls of my cousin's elementary school when she took 2nd in the Spelling Bee last year, and now I have to introduce myself to my neighbors whenever I move.

F***ing double-standards.
