On the poop, I second completely. There are lot of players with dogs out there now... these people should know better if they are letting this happen on the course. The dog walkers should know better too, but doubtful they are "on the forums". Keep our course clean - poop sucks worse than trash.

Some of your teammates showed support Eric.....and others on your team showed up to play.....which is a very B pool move if I may voice my opinion.....the retort was "this place wouldn't be playable if i didn't help blah blah blah...." well I hope they remember that when they see me on the course and I am a dick to them.....i wanted to say "you should've dragged the brush further away from the fairways during the first cleanup attempt, good job doing the job halfway"....perhaps they will read this, posted in the same thread they said they didn't read and that is why they were there to play and not work...BTW we all played after the work day...enough of the rant....


The poop thing just sucks....there are a couple of DGers that frequent the course who I guess are unaware that the canines that accompany them defecate....I love when people act like their dog doesn't poop or when confronted they say "I dont have a bag for it" or "Oh, I'll get that" (then never do, and it is waiting for me to step in or Steve to put his bag in)...that is very disrespectful to the people who have put countless hours in creating and maintaining this wonderful FREE place for everyone to enjoy....there are two in particular who know who they are.....if you really want me to "pick on you" like I was accused of doing yesterday I will....the next time I will call the ACO because I have never seen your dog on a leash!!!!

Played Crane for the first time Thursday. Big thanks to the guys who helped me with the navigation for holes 14-16. The map on DGCoursereview.com doesn't show the changes.

Had a fantastic time! The tee boxes are AWESOME and the course played very nice. Navigation could use some improvement, a few next tee signs could be helpful and tee box signs are disparately needed (which I was told is in the works). Other than that I really enjoyed myself and look forward to my next visit. My favorite hole if I remember correctly was 9. Maybe it was because I had a beautiful shot with an ESP Cyclone that followed the fairway perfectly and ended up 10 ft left of the basket. I have a feeling this course will be a bit more challenging in the summer when the trees sprout their leaves.

Big kudos to everyone who works on this course, it's definitely a hidden gem. Thanks for the great time!

The tee boxes ARE awesome thanks to the great engineering of Chris and hard work installing of many. As noted, tee signs are on the way; the plan is to get these installed when the ground thaws in the spring. (Wait a minute; the ground more or less is thawed...)

In other news, we are again applying for Community Preservation Act funds this time to pave the parking area and put up appropriate buffers around it.

Anyone looking to contribute volunteer work could start with helping keep clean the parking area which unfortunately is a litter magnet. I don't THINK most of it comes from disc golfers but rather from people who use the parking area as a hangout after hours. Anyway it's a blight and an eyesore, and is the source of the most complaints of an otherwise well accepted facility in the neighborhood, so anything players can do to help keep that area picked up would be much appreciated and good insurance for the continued existence of our well beloved course!

Finally, anyone with sightings/information on what seems to be a narrow gauge pickup truck or jeep type vehicle taking joy rides down the Hole 1 fairway? it would be good to catch the culprit and put a stop to it. Hate to see all the dedication and work put into the course and tee boxes
threatened by such weenie heads.

This DGer cleans up after his pup, and leashes her. The LAST thing I would want is all my sweet birdie layups to land in a pile of doo.

Well it is that time of year again....the days are starting to get longer and my seasonal affective disorder is loosening its grip on me, I feel like a bear awakening from hibernation.

Details about the league will be posted as they become available...A few members of the CHDGC will be joining forces and sharing the hosting duties to make this a great weekly league...

This week I would specifically like to invite any locals interested in joining the Crane Hill Disc Golf Club to come out and join us for a round of doubles and then the first official unofficial meeting of the club. I have a few projects in mind for this season that will help to elevate this course to the next level.

Barley is good and NC isn't too shabby. I think we got a whole inch of snow this entire "winter". Pretty good if you like to toss plastic. No plans to come up anytime soon, but when i do, you'll know

Saw the new benches around hole 1 and they are great. Many thanks to those who made that great contribution to the course. Now if we can just do something about the mud.

my dog does this strange thing after he poooops..he does this poop dance where he reverse kicks all the poop far away from original place..and usually it is hard to even see after he does this..he often goes far from fairways and is kinda small so the poop is small

if he ever poops in normal walking area on a course..even arrant throw areas I clean other then that just seems moot

There is a mando on 13 and 15. On 13 the mando is a big tree marked with yellow tape on the left side of the gap across the field. On 15 the mando (correct me if I am wrong guys) is marked with yellow tape(?)...the tree is about 200 out and is the left most tree IN the field, preventing you from crossing the fairway for hole 13.

I know this isn't too informative, but I figured I'd let you know this person has been seen fairly recently.

I PICKED UP OVER 100 CIG BUTTS BETWEEN HOLES 9 AND 18 YESTERDAY. For a course thats been in half as long as Northampton, I am surprised, and a little disappointed. It is brush fire season, even though its raining now, and its just disgusting. Ask your fellow disc golfers that smoke to pick up their butts, or pick their butt off your course.

Crane Hill continues to get better with the help of many. Thank Ken Wagner for the new benches around the tee area for Hole 1. Today a small crew mulched the area around these benches, installed three new benches at the tee for Hole 9; also did some cutting and trimming of leftover wood fall from the October storm, and installed a new bench at the tee for Hole 15.

Looking forward for a good turnout for the April 7 work day!

Have you tried some signs to get folks to stop the bad behavior? It certainly is not a cure all, but it does help.

Like some other courses, Crane Hill's butts/litter situation is a reflection of its popularity. The minority out there who litter either can't read or won't heed, so I don't think signs would make much difference. But anyone who's caught tossing out there, risks losing course access, per the town of Wilbraham. Those who have designed, maintained and improved the course have established a great relationship with the town and other recreational users of the area, and will do whatever it takes to keep this.

Work days this Friday and Saturday....come on out and help and stick around to play afterwards...

Good job with this course! I was able to do a quick round last Friday. Very impressive, the tee pads were solid and there were no prickers or poison ivy. Dozens of players on the course, some really cool holes with "fair" fairways. nice!

Thanks for the nice feedback, Craig. Hopefully, you didn't get too lost with the lack of signage. They're next on the list.

Crane Hill tags are on the way.....the funds raised will be used to purchase new baskets which will be set in place on some of alternate pin placements which should be in by the end of the summer.....

Stopped by Saturday morning for 2 rounds with my son on his way to Ultimate camp at Amherst College. Very nice course guys. After the first 8 holes I was wondering if there would end up being any distance. And then of course the long holes ate me up. Is it 13 that crosses the field and goes deep left into the woods? Killed me. Don't know how you get past the big tree in the middle of the fairway close and still get across the field into the woods for a chance at 3. I managed to get caught up in the trees on the left on 16 twice as well.

Congrats and thank you Davis and PJ Dan for this gem. Tee pads are great, and a nice combination of wooded and open holes with fun elevation changes. Seems a little flick-friendly--or was I just having a good day?

Yup, that's 13. To miss the 'middle finger' there I throw a fh roller (if it's not mowed, this plan goes down the toilet..) out to the right and it comes back a little to the gap (even with the mando tree on the left). Then it's either another roller into the woods down the fairway or a rhbh (depending on the angle left after the tee shot).

The only other way (probably preferred) would be a rhbh middie to the gap / into the gap (can't hyzer out too quickly or you'll be corner-hooked by Mr. mando tree yet you can't driver it too far straight because you'll be on / near 16's tee...and again corner-hooked).

But remember, it IS a par-4 - so nothing wrong taking the medicine (or a 4) and finding an offsetting 2 somewhere else!
