Well I'm gonna see if I can make it that early. If not, I'm sure I'll run into you guys in the woods.

And I'll make sure I block everyone in the driveway too.

See you there.

How were the conditions yesterday? How Much snow is on the ground?

most of the course has a good ~4-5" of snow on the ground. You'll find yourself calling out "good footprint!" a lot because footprints are one of the few/only things that will stop some discs from sliding for all eternity, the top layer is iced over a bit and will do nothing to stop a disc in motion. Floaters or spike approaches for the pins. The course is playing tough, but despite yesterday being my first trip out there I really liked the layout. Get ready for your thighs to be burning too, crunching through snow and all the hills make for a tiring round :)

I'll def be up there for 9. I'm bringing Derrick Libby with me as well. Hopefully the warm temps will soften up the snow a bit.

Sat. was a beautiful day to enjoy Hero's. The course changes and improvements are great. It was mentioned during our 2nd round that the mandatory tree on 16 is no longer a mandatory. Is this the case or was Milce and Pj just pulling our leg? Without the mandatory, the tee for 17 is very dangerous.

Steve,

When we were walking up to 16. Hero told was there was no Mando in effect. Just to remember that there is still all the OB on the left side of the road.

Even without the Mando everyone in our group took the Hyzer route.

Hero,

Great course. Really enjoyed the layout. Saturday was definately a great day to get my first round in up there.

hero's 16 mando

Post by HERO »

True...&... True! Thanks guys--glad ya had fun--Hey as a reminder, in the future please remember to drop off your cards at the end of the round--i input all the scores for hole handicapping (tweaks and changes) and for each players' SSA on the course. Feel free to drop 'em off if ya got 'em next time 'round :)

No one is really silly enough to try the flick down the farm road... gulp... yet r they? For all the risk the upshot really bites..

But yes--please wait for 17 to leave prior to executing a perfectly strait, 10 foot high, 300 foot, up hill, into a head wind, arm torkin, lazer flick with OB left all the way...with no upshot once ya get there!

Might just be better off tacoing the old mando tree!!!!

Cheerio!

HOLE PAR
1 3
2 4
3 3
4 3
5 3
6 3
7 3
8 4
9 3
10 3
11 4
12 3
13 3
14 3
15 4
16 3
17 3

I think that is the par on each hole which makes it a course par of 58

Using Hero course

Post by jvinsant »

Hero,

My fiance and I have been playing disc golf for about a year now, and she is from Barkhamsted. We visit there quite a bit, and it'd be great if we could play at your course. What's the best way to make an appointment? You can sent me an email at jamievinsant at yahoo dot com or just reply here if you get this.

Thanks,

Jamie

I'm not sure if hero just lurks without posting usually, or if he actually only checks these forums sporadically, but TMK the best way to get ahold of him is ted@dowlingrisk.com

enjoy heroes, it's a great course :)

hero chiming in

Post by HERO »

Hi Jamie and thanks dave. I do get to check into here regularly, but i appreciate any help in having folks get in touch.

Jamie--barkhamsted is a nice place to visit--and now betta if u r a dg'r cuz u can come by my place anytime! Just give me a shout and PM hero, or shoot me an email to my home: tpcnksc@cox.net and just let me know when u might come (we'd prefer not to have complete strangers just showing up and hangin out without us knowing about it:)).

All i ask is that u sign in (at the mailbox near hole #1--u can grab a card and pencil there as well) and take out whatever u bring in, no bottles and please don't drop any butts--drives my wife and kids crazy--(no one smokes ciggy's in my family :) Please return the card after paly for handicapping data that i keep to tweak the holes...

There is a post by chris webb or stew under courses "New course heroes in west granby" or something with a mapquest or yahoo maps to the course: address is 12 silkey rd, west granby ct. Park in the upper meadow now, above my driveway about 100 yards and you'll be right at the mailbox and hole #1 and basket #2.

I'm hoping to play this weekend and i'm happy to show u about if yer game?

Cheerio

Well, I got my first taste of the Heroes Course yesterday, and also got my first taste of Hero himself!!!!!!!

All I can say is:

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a beautiful location - 125 acres of idyllic solitude in the Western Hills of Connecticut - this place has it all:

Beautifully rolling open pastures - mowed EVERY week;
streams year-round;
sweet man-made pond; and
woods - but, let me tell you -

THERE'S BEEN AN ANIMAL IN THE WOODS!!!!!!!!!!

It's name is:

HeRo

This dude has meticulously cleaned several fairways - and when I say
meticulously cleaned several fairways, I mean CLEANED. He is over-concerned about players having a positive experience when they visit ---
he saw to that a long time ago!!!!!!!!!!

A pleasant experience it is at Heroes: a great mix of uphill/downhill, short/long, tight/open, hyzer/anhyzer. Although I experienced it in a persistent mist, the views are staggering, with the potential of 5 ridgelines in sight at times!!!!!!!!!!!

A must play, and a lock for the opening round of LiCkAtHoN20o6!!!!!!!!

Thank you Hero

Shhhhhhh.

No one must know about the Precious.... :silent:

Lick is right, this is a gem of a course.

Hero is a machine. I can only imagine the man hours he put into this baby!

Thanks to Stew for tipping me off last fall.

Dave, great to finally meet you at Amesbury this weekend. Likewise for Mark Lyons. With the Hero course rapidly gaining stature, I'm re-considering the stigma that might be attached to chucking all my responsibilities and moving back home with my mother in Granby!!

Hero, how long until you blow off ball golf completely? If only Little Teddy was big enough to drive a tractor before the demands of Kindergarten screw up his schedule, you'd be able to come home to a freshly-mowed course and 18 holes with an ice cold Genny Cream in your bag.

Nice to see the DG growing like a wildfire in the 860. Nice to live vicariously through my buddy's success. Nice to see my promises that the greater DG community would welcome "HEE-ROWE PRICE" with open arms come to fruition.

How about a league night to add to the e-tags phenomon?

http://www.amesburypines.com/e-tags/participants.asp

Congratulations Hero and thanks for all hard work (and Kristen for facilitating it!)
