for AM2's I'm thinking Keith Clark can take it! but matt duquette won the summer tourney at BH so he's got a shot at takin' finals!

it's a tough course- lots of challenging shots, requires precision-

Why do you think it would be held at Ninigret? I think there will be a new course by then, but maybe even a temp course setup would be best.

I kinda assumed it would be at Ninigret also. They got the large grant to make improvements, seems logical that they'd showcase these improvments with a kick azz Finals event.

But another course in NEFAland is a win-win too.

Hey if a new course goes in or a temp course is set that's great. The thing is we have been hearing there is a new course going in for a while. RI could use another course but i understand there is a select few that play disc in the area. So that's why I thought Finals would be at Nini. It's the only show in the state. What if finals has to be held at Nini, can it hold 90 people in late Oct and finish with daylight? Not trying to stir the pot, just wondering.

Finals is gonna be blast for those who get in. Blaze runs a great tourney and the course is awesome. Here's hoping to getting in.

i thought in years past there was some 'bounty' collected of money to use at finals?
i guess i am not sure now why its just like any other tournament.
i say this as an outsider looking in and feel i don't deserve to attend because i did not play well enough and finish in the top.
it's much less of an honor if i back into it. but i heart Beautyhill.

just an opinion. a thought. a moment. it's passed.

If finals are to be at Ninigrit next year, who would run the show? Private course owners get to host, but Nini is a public course. Would the points committe nominate someone to run it?

I think a team of Jihad, Meow and Wintrob would be awesome!!!!

Sorry to put the pressure on guys, but Meow is one of the best in the business (TD'ing), Jihad is still a local I believe? and of course Greggor.

That's my vote. Never met TM or went to one of his events, thus, I don't know what to expect, but I am sure he's on the list as well.

Many discs for CTPs...t-shirts as well. The bounty we collected ($550 in sponsorship $$- and thank you once again to all our sponsors!) is going toward lowering everyone's entry fee to $13.00 We felt this was the best way to give all finals attendees something without having to compete for it. A finals program with all sponsorship recognition, final player listings and some nice letters from the TDs and our NEFA Prez....Combine this with Blaze & Lisa's first class hospitality, and it should be above and beyond your typical tourny....of course we will always strive to improve upon anything we do :D

State Representative picks the course and the TD.
TD would default to the course owner if it's private, provided said owner was a worthy TD.

Yeah...what the hell. Where's the Panthorn crew's representation this year? No TRB, no Serpliss, no Cows, No Zoro. You guys better get your act together and come out of your little swamp and play some tournaments next year.

A lot of our players all moved up mid-year so we had some AM2 tournies, some AM1s. We played a lot of PDGA stuff but missed a lot of NEFA points events. Plus, there was a pretty big lack of NEFA tournies below the MA border... I don't mind visiting you guys but it just didn't work out this year.

See ya in AM1 next year gentlemen!

Finals should be match play.
That's kinda it.
Top 16 from MPO, MPM, AM1 and AM2.
Top 8 from the other divisions (if there are 4 other divisions?)
2 day event.

Just an idea.
Finals were soooooo awesome when it was match play...

and it's funny I have such fond memories of that finals at Dragan in ME, when you killed me Rob.
I lost early, but still had an awesome time watching it all unfold.

Could be a cool idea to revive.

We did a poll of the membership last year on this very subject and it was fairly divided with the majority in favor of the setup we have now. I don't know if it's a factor of newer members not being able to visualize how it would play out or if some like the convenience of not having to give up a weekend? I remember a popular sentiment many members shared was that we play stroke play all year and to change it for finals was something they didn't agree with.

In my opinion, the match play format was perfect for finals as the standings dictated who you would play and it really meant something. Two days is what finals should be, after all, it's finals. The eventual champion really had to be on their game all weekend long and usually the cream rose to the top and they were deserving of the title. I do think the team challenge that Todd runs has given more of our members exposure to match play and they probably understand it better than they ever have before so a match play finals now would be great to watch. I <3 match play and those are great memories indeed Dave.

That pretty much sums it up Rob. Its not even close when it comes to fighting for your position all year and the excitment of a bracketed finals. Anyone that votes for another stroke play tournament rather than a match play finals is a pinhead.

Well, pinhead might be a little strong there Matt 8-) but it really is the way to go I think. I would be willing to serve on an exploritory committee during the off season to work on a match play finals but wonder if this is something the membership would be interested in after a handful of years trying to make this stroke play finals work? Sorry but I just think that it really has taken the competitive edge of the regular season and finals.

Match play for finals sounds awesome if you can get everyone to commit but it is impossible to make players stay when they don't want to. Gary had mentioned in another thread that how much it would suck if day 2 you match opponent had to leave because everyone else in his carpool lost and they want to leave. Don't know how to avoid this problem.

It was definitely one of the downsides to the format ... I remember playing in a twosome one year at Wick on the Sunday because the other two players in our division had left on Saturday because they had lost.

I know that I had carved out the weekend and continued to play on just for the sake of finishing and pride I took in doing my best. Perhaps if the payouts were structured in such a way that everyone in your bracket got paid by order of finish and were large enough to make it matter, players might be more inclined to stay? I'm not saying anyone's going to get rich here but none of the $7 here and $15 there kind of thing you know?

This discussion came up last year as well and I had some thougths on it then. The end of season payouts should be done away with, and everything go to the payouts for the finals. That would make it pretty decent payout for every place at the match play finals. You can also have it be one and done for some players. The only players that make day two are the ones that get paid. 16 players on day one. Top 8 move on to day 2 and all 8 get paid.

That makes perfect sense. Anything to make the finals more prestigious. The NEfa finals could and should be a high level event. If done right, the event could have big prizes for all divisions, catered lunch, and great players party. Who is in charge of the finals for 2012? Id love to share some ideas that are working for us down here. Animalfest XIII had over $ 3,000 added and a $5 buffet at the players party. Our club only has 60 members. NEfa's resources are so much larger and the potential is HUGE to pull off a great annual event. I would personally sponsor and have our club sponsor the NEFA Finals, but not in it's current form.
