Chill out Titan......... it's a college campus course. And with a limited amount of area to work with.

DisCap had three teams out for the last tourney and everyone LOVES the redesign.

so I played a round today...disappointed! holes 1-6 are ok. hole 7... the neighbor decided to cut down the trees on the property line throw them to the right side of the fairway, slowly tightening up the hole. as we were playing the owner stopped everything he was doing to watch us play and make sure no discs went on his property. he is truly a miserable person. hole 7 needs a lot of clean up, along with 8, 11, 12( worst hole on the course), 13, 14, 16,17,18. is there going to be any work days scheduled? I would be more then willing to help.

Course clean-up is under way! A site walk and course clean-up review took place on April 28 between Tom Stewart (Recreation Director), Jay Ducharme (HCC DG club & a course originator) and myself. Permission has been given for me to act as lead volunteer for all DGC work that has been outlined, submitted to Tom and approved/agreed upon. Unfortunately, and this is by request of the Rec Director, only I can perform the work at this point. Over time, as the course begins to get a return following, this might change but for now I want to honor the request of the school – please do the same. Maintaining the DGC has been a goal of mine for close to 2 years now as it is essentially my home course. True, the course may never be a favorite among the DG majority but it is a fantastic resource for many and I am happy to be a part of getting it on the radar of local players once again.

There will be no work days planned as the school does not want this to happen and it is really imperative that no one take it upon themselves to cut anything in the fairways or anywhere along the course. Should this happen it could jeopardize any further work being done. The work is being done with hand tools as no power tools can be utilized – so it is a slow process. I have started the agreed upon work and at this point have completed holes 1, 2, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, & 15. Holes 16, 17 & 18 have been started and will be completed in the next week or two. After that hole 3 will get the most attention followed by 4, 8 & 9. Holes 5 & 6 need the least attention at this point.

I have access to the wood chips along the parking lot to #11 and will try to lay chips at the baskets to some of the more rooted/rock strewn baskets. Hole 10 was done as an example for Jay & Tom but none of the other holes in need have been attended to as of yet. If this does happen it will be later in June.

What will help is people playing the course. If you come across a fallen branch, move it off to the edge of the fairway. Just cleaning up the fairways of all the trash and sticks is a huge improvement. Foot traffic will help keep some of the re-growth in check. Any feedback can be directed to me. If there is some clean-up that has been missed, please let me know and I can approach Tom & Jay and see if it can be approved/performed – again, please do not cut anything on your own.

Thanks to HCC for allowing this long needed work to be done. With Jay’s help, I hope to get a tourney back to the course before 2015.

Are there any scheduled work days for the course? Played the course this past weekend, hole 7 we had to skip due to the "neighbor". We need to address this issue. Not sure what the college has in mind, but hole 7 is just a "dumping" lot for the neighbors.

The college does not want to pursue any complaints against the neighbors. The only apparent solution is to redesign that hole to avoid them. I've been mulling that over.

Thanks Eric. I did see that, but that was last year. Didn't know if anything has changed for this year. I know on hole 1 there is a dead pine tree. Hole 12 is starting to get some growth back and some minor work to other holes as well

That's actually a larch, one of the few conifers that behaves like a deciduous tree and goes to sleep each winter. It will be green again in a month or so.

Yup. That happens every spring. And it will get overgrown in the summer. And in the fall. We'll work on that.
