Re: Bicentennial Park Holtshire Road Orange MA WORK STARTS 3/16
totally different convo then I anticipated..very relaxed and excited feel
the super of the water dept had been filled in the entire time and just didnt mention to his workers about the project
so a lil confusion
Disc Golf is a complete GO..and they are happy we are there...we just need a final walkthrough before baskets get sunk..simple enough and we shall bring the wow factor
the logging is basically a myth..and chuckles followed the well maybe some year words...so as I thought the marks are all old and it is a back burner thing...we may even be able to get established and make DG zones free from the cut...
only problem seems to be bugs...I have not even seen a bug yet up there...lol bugs how bad can it be..? we shall find out
so onto the work..
I want to form a plan for DG work..stuff the community crew can't do..so we can progress and save "simple but hard" work for those crews...as we need to focus on some other things
the course is basically cut and some small things need to be buttoned up
Guy I may not be there in afternoon till late..but will be there in AM hopefully....I hope to get leaf blower tomorrow so I can finally do what I wanna do
The only issue spoke of was "IF" we get hurt cutting..I told him basically all cutting was done prob 70% so BE SAFE as always and maybe have some glasses ect ect close by just in case PTB show up
The works hours for the lil guys will be taken care of and can be signed off on so a GO there as well and TY to them
Focus on all the damage/debris end of hole 1 and that area I guess as discussed maybe making pin go to that other pin area of the possible 3rd hole over there
hole 6 and final touches on 7 after we get some golfers up there to throw shots..IMO this needs to be done
to the left of 9's fairway looking from tee has dead debris
after those areas are cleaned we can get everything chipped again and see what the next move is...collecting stuff for tee borders, digging some tees(just top layer of sediment) I will have GS Lyman drop fill soon for grading of road and for tees(think natural but solid kinda plan)
then we can settle up on all the greens and get basket $$$$ collected and BAM PB and JAM we got a dG course!

Re: Bicentennial Park Holtshire Road Orange MA WORK STARTS 3/16
we played the course some today as we have 3 baskets and some pole holes..for some of those tweaks here there in prepartion for final tee/basket locations
the course needs play really so any who can't give major work..some input from play would be useful as well
lymans, picard, myself went through this afternoon doing any of the more major stuff hole by hole so once we get the chipper crew again we can just have small cleanup and stash it over there and not rely on chipping crew kinda thing..
holes 1,2,3,4,6,7,8 are basically where they need to be
5 we may have decided to take more and give it a woodsy green rather the by the edge of water..we explore that(water) on hole 6..lol
7 needs play as it is unique hole for sure..we may need to pure up a gap if it is redickulous kinda old barre 13 but uphill and snaky..to some scale as we have the tall pole pines kinda thing going on and dropping 100 foot pines is not always easy in a jam packed forest..it appears go overhand/or high but hit a tree the way the grade goes repels ya back to tee..evil
I wanna see if it becomes cheated or just a lil luck if so we drop one big boy any way we gotta do it and pure it up a lil
hole 8 just wow I love it and with more touch up its gonna be fun and demand a shot
hole 9 needs cleaning to left of tee box all the way down line and again once chipping crew come..its really gonna POP
so now we pray for chipping crew...get all of our destruction out and then fine comb it and adjust from throw input
oh and pole sawing I need a gas powered pole saw for 3 days and bang it will look awesome..soon!!!
we use all of our woodchips where needed..rake clean
In the meantime I will gather basket $$$$ from people who have expressed interest
Today I contacted area business that had interest before..I shall hone those targets in over the next days
We will be having a major WORKDAY where town citizens can come help soon..now we have it semi safe I am comfortable allowing a mass gathering for work and showcase the vision as it is there to see now
This will prob be hmmm MAY 13th(day after tully event)..this day I wanna collect $$$$ as well and order for a Memorial day BBQ and basket install
so June 1stish I suspect grand opening!!!
not restricting to this date just a goal and I like goals it will set the pace!!!
basket sponsor list soon!!!
post if your down $125 a person 2 per basket DB5's all the hardware and create..you will be spot lighted as cool
and what ya get is a warm fuzzy feeling!!! most are spoken for!! so if your down get in quick

TY again to bob,guy we crushed most of the stuff that needed to be cleaned on hole 9 yesterday
I am gonna try for tomorrow and Bob said he will be cleaning hole 1
Next step IMO should be figuring out hole 5...Guy if ya want we can go into that green area discussed..we just gotta figure out how we want the "mouth" of opening to be..prob just leave the two big hemlocks that are kinda healthy looking..
not sure if I am AM or PM shifting yet..so if ya stop by thursday and I am not around go nuts on 5 if ya want

Re: Bicentennial Park Holtshire Road Orange MA WORK STARTS 3/16
great walk through with the PTB today
only 1 issue..and I suspected all along it would be..hole 6!!! is a NO GO.no matter how we angle it,place it..for several reasons..all respectable and we will abide for sure
if a person can give ya 5 reasons why..I can understand and respect that more then just a NO
hole 7 may have to slide over a lil
we have solutions and may be granted access to another chunk of land..so all is good IMO
had em throwing disc and he seemed to enjoy it..even in heavy rain
he appreciates our hard work and respects the project and the mentality of doing a good thing for people and the land..so TY to all who have helped
guy call me 1-413-230-2185 we can discuss in more detail all other elements discussed today at meeting 2 hours in rain..to much to write!!
I am soaked to the bone so I doubt I will work again today up there...but if your gonna be up there I will swing up and discuss things
let me know
TY
edit..also I loved that hole for some reason..so I am a lil upset we lose it..but I wanna stay positive and find the best solution so I am gonna let it go and move forward

I (secretly) also thought that neat little # 6 wouldn't fly; oh well. But if the 2 "littler" holes at the end now are put in place, you'll have a solid 9 (1 - 5 "as planned", 6 is now gone, 7 gauntlet becomes 6, s-curve 8 becomes 7 (to the top pin...a par 3), then 2 of the high tee / low basket holes to finish that plot of land. And now 5's basket CAN be down by the water (and then that 140' walk to the gauntlet's tee pad). Still nice....

Re: Bicentennial Park Holtshire Road Orange MA WORK STARTS 3/16
Yeah we all kinda new Karl for sure...its not the PTB we are dealing with it is their powers that be..the State..apparently the state is now protecting those "dams" and 3 from this area are already in litigation to remain under "town" jurisdiction..as in the 70's when that trail was first designed the dam was used...times have changed to conservation nowadays..understandable
so we may have more land further forward on hole 1-2..so we can explore more over there..as I always wanted ahole over there..got a cool spot in mind we crazy good view of beaver lake
so we got some options added with your idea we are armed to adapt and get a design that flows and challenges newbs(as the course is generated towards them) and a fun semi skilled different feel 9holes for us VETS to enjoy
TY for your input on this project and hopefully next time ya come we can play 9 shiney baskets!!!

TY again Lymans...
Bob had to scratch the plan as he had unexpected company arrive...
trying to get all this land,$$(baskets),chipper crew, ect settled up during the rain
also got a nagging tooth issue I think..its draining my energy bad..hoping next week I can get it fixed/yanked..so I can actually do some physical labor for more then a few hours

Re: Bicentennial Park Holtshire Road Orange MA WORK STARTS 3/16
spoke with the water dept super...I have a map of actual property lines now...
the property goes 850ft from pavilion appr.
I think that still leaves us at that metal stake in the rock..I will try to pace it off
If that is the line then we def gotta go with the "Karl Plan" of shifting 9 over, pulling 8 back to that mound and paralleling a hole next to nine
still no word from the chipper crew...if I can arrange for us to use the chipper we will need warriors to efficiently utilize the time
The super int has a meeting this Monday w/ other town officials and they plan to discuss some things pertaining to this project bathroom, ect ect

Re: Bicentennial Park Holtshire Road Orange MA WORK STARTS 3/16
put in a solid 6 hours today
compiling all the lil(well littler) piles of debris into 3 massive piles between hole 1/2
got 1 more on hole 2 to drag up..and I may repile that big one close to 2's tee next time..think I can get it more condensed
so I will continue that next time and move all debris to right of hole 1 into 1 big pile as well
need some stuff cut
then bring all the debris from 2's future green(by the water) over to pile
I would like to put up tee sign this week as well on holes 1-5
Then woodchip path to hole 1,path to hole 3
Put some logs out for tees..dig em in a lil bit and woodchip a lil tee area to start
I believe they are setting up for next chipping waive as they graded road some..so fingers crossed
Guy the work ya did on hole 8 is great...green goes down a lil bit more
I spoke some older ladies one lives right next door..also plays DG..she offered tools up and said they would help picking sticks up
They also may be interested in sponsoring a basket..so pretty cool..she will spread the word to some locals as well
Sully is making a kiosk sign tuesday AM to let peeps know whats up..my contact info and punch list items
I will prob buy a basket soon...Derek V and Rob G are ready to buy one as well..so I may put 2 in soon..and just get em as they come..use the old FR ones until we have 9 shiney new ones...
I figure maybe if we get some more baskets..we can attract more helpers..so I will focus on getting course marked with tee signs, woodchips
be up there tuesday 9am-2pm weather permitting

oh..the place looks so nice...the vision can be seen for sure
holes 1 and 2 are just great and came out exactly how I expected them to...
the brook is so nice and sounds great...holes 4 and 5 offer a great view of pond
Guy what should we do w/ 6 and 7..? I have some ideas..and maybe adjust 7 some(what would now be 7)
we might be able to do better if we take another look at those now that everything is kinda visible and grown in
The area ya cleaned out for 8's tee is looking great...8 and 9 will now offer unique challenging shots that make ya hit an early first gap...a feature I originally intended this course to offer
overall the land is looking spectacular from when we first started
thank you

Re: Bicentennial Park Holtshire Road Orange MA WORK STARTS 3/16
put in a solid 7 today
picked up last pile on 2's fairway to big piles
mulched trails from pavilion to 1, 2-3,main walking trail, and trail down from road
willl continue to mulch and then clean the areas real good that are not mulched around pavilion area
would like to tighty up pile behind 2's tee..need saw..and maybe I will restack that monster pile close to 2 again..maybe later
gotta clean the debris around 2's pin area
well they graded the road some..and then chipped all the stuff that was piled on bathroom road...I suspect they have it on radar and will be back for that corners final sweep and are loading dock of debris..and edge of road..down water dept road...
then we should be in good shape on that front
digging in first 5 tee post tomorrow or thursday...then will find 3-4 nice logs to edge out a tee area of some sort...
need to also pile all the debris to right of one in a neat pile..may need saw to actually make an area for piling
guy you will like the progress..and once that chipper takes that next big load out..it will look even better

the list of major work items besides cleaning fairways
figure out 5's green area
link to new 6(old 7)
hole 6 tee and pin may change if we find better option
relook at hole 7(old 8) possible shift/lengthen of tee, possible fairway addition
finish cutting 8's green
cut out new 9
the rest
recruiting of volunteers for work
woodchips
tee post/signs
cleaning debris
woodchipping
tee areas
fundraising for baskets
any additions of note I may of missed?
