Re: West Thompson trash

Littering continues to be an issue. Please deposit your trash/bottles/cans in the trash receptacles provided at Tee 1 and Basket 11. Thanks.

Thanks for the mowing! I literally said to my brother last night that we should offer a prayer of thanks toward whoever does this, whenever we see fresh mowing. So thanks!! :D

As much as I would love to see the trash problem improve, my guess is that the culprits do not post here.

Maybe I'm wrong - but my hope is that the people who are passionate enough about the game to post here are not the litterers.

But every time I see a post like this from Ranger Cathy, I feel like we ALL cringe, because my one of my favorite places to go in the whole world is threatened by these uncivilized cretins who think the all public property is the same thing as the dump.

Sometimes I grab other people's trash and keep it in my golf bag til hole 1 or 11. I'm gonna start bringing trash bags. Should we stop using the hole 9 trash can?

They are pouring concrete. Don't mess up the pads in between.

T. Carter wrote:I played WT yesterday. The grass is cut pretty low and mowed much more broadly this time around than last time they mowed (Presumably bc of the boat races, before some fairways were really tight IMO).

The non-concrete boxes have all been dug out so that they are nice and level, but they are "level" down at the bottom of the wood pieces that make up the tee box. The front and sides of the box are sticking up four inches above the level of the ground inside the box.

At first I thought that this seemed silly and/or dangerous, but then i thought, maybe there is more concrete being poured soon, and thats why the boxes are dug out like this? I know that most of these holes are shorter holes that dont require a full run-up or landing zone, but I hope the plan is not to leave the Tees like they are now, as they are a liability for sure.

Thanks to all who work on the course! (I try to pitch in by picking up trash during rounds) I do not mean to be critical, but I would like to know what is up with these boxes. (Hooray if it is a sign of more concrete to come!)

Finally got out tonight to play for the 1st time in almost 2 weeks, and several weeks since my last WT visit. The course looks the BEST it ever has, and you can tell that it will only improve in the days leading up to the West Thompson Open and beyond.

Thank you Ranger Cathy for mowing, it's greatly appreciated by all of us! The trash barrels on tee 1 and basket 11 are definitely a help, an additional barrel on tee 6, across from the ranger station would be great. If having barrels located nearest access roads is the idea, that seems like the logical place for another. The barrel on 9's tee seems to almost always be overflowing, I wonder who empties that? It is a popular dumping ground, unfortunately, but a barrel on 6's tee should help alleviate that.

Huge thanks as well to Rob, Kaz, Ray, Nicky and the tee sign finishing crew, players who pick up trash, and anyone else who volunteered their time for the course lately. The tees that are dug out, and poured so far are looking prime! The path from 3 to 4 is nicely trimmed, the bridges leading to 12's fairway are a sweet upgrade, and the latest tee signs are awesome!!!

There is no doubt that all the trash and destruction that sometimes occurs at WT is very likely people who do not visit this forum. Let's stay focused on the positives that there is a dedicated group of us who've donated lots of time, money, talent and effort, bought and play for WT tags, run and attend leagues, pick up trash, upkeep the course, and plan future upgrades.

It's impossible to keep everyone on the same page, especially during tourney season, and busy season at work for some. But, there's plenty of money in the course fund being put to great use, we've sold 60! or so bag tags in the first year, with people competing for them at every singles league and tournament, HUUGE upgrades to the course in less than a year, and only great things to come!

So, in summary, you don't want to miss the 2010 West Thompson Open next Saturday, July 24th!! :D

I was informed that leaves have started to fall in force and have started covering the tees and greens making hard to locate putters.

I'll try to get out there early on Sunday to clean a few up but I have very little time this week. If one of our West Thompson faithfuls could please sweep a few tees and rake around some of the greens before the tag tourney it would be greatly appreciated.

Ranger Cathy is dropping stone dust at 4,6,7,9 and 17.

I want to get the run up behind the concrete pads level before winter hits hard. Saturday looks like descent weather; come one, come all.

Tampers, shovels and rakes are always needed.

I lost two discs out there yesterday. Neither have my name I don't think.

Orange Champ banshee, left on the ground a little short and right of hole 3's pin.

Pastel Green Star Wraith. I don't know where I lost that one. I didn't throw it at all, It must've fallen out of my bag when i pulled my gloves out or something.

if anyone was there yesterday and found them please let me know.

We need some bodies, ones that won't mind shoveling a little snow. And we are going to throw and make the most of it. When is the last time you got to throw in this much snow? A blizzard in January... You can keep it. A chance to throw from freshly shoveled tees in a winter wonderland....

Priceless.

Come on down, shovel tees, and throw discs in fresh powdahh.
