Hey TM,
She sure is shaping up, the hurt that you and the Devens Gang put on it, really gave me fresh energy and renewed my commitment to seeing this project through, seeing the play this course is getting from my community is awesome. We are holding off on the back 9 until next spring, focusing on making the front 9 shine, I am hoping to have a good core group of folks by then, league is starting to draw some players, but you know I will be hitting you up for your saw expertise! Maybe we'll cross paths down @ Deven's I am on board to help with their work days for the new 18 as much as I can.

If you like manicured fairway, Otter Brook Hole #1, and the ridge line picninc table area between 7 and 3 tees are the spots to be, spent the last 3 days raking, pole sawing, I am almost satisfied with hole #1, only 17 more to go, should be done in no time.

I knew someone would appreciate course worker humor, OB is about 1/2 hour from Hunts mean 18, consider this when making plans for next week, also there are some great places to eat in Keene, All Rindge has to offer is a Taco bell-KFC awesome if you want the squirts for the next 3 days.

Another Virgin goes by the way side

I really want to get up to RFG soon, maybe this Sunday if my schedule allows, I'd recommend hitting up OB and then going to Pilgrim Pines, it is soooooooooo open! nice to be able to throw some long bombs, now and then but I would get tired of that course quickly if it was my home course, still learning how to manage OB, the hard holes for me at OB are 1 which I 4 more than I 3 and 8, which I have yet to deuce.

we had fun...played 2 casual casual rounds...stopped by GG..spkoe with John B..plans for future seem bright there as well..thoughts at a later time...

I have some observations on OB....love the progression..I can see some "base material" for tees...will be in touch sooon

Thanks for all your hard work guys....just think 5 more years and ya have a GEM...lol

I think the back nine will balance this joint off...as the front 9 is a clockwise loop..and the back is a counterclockwise loop...

It is located on Swansey Lake at the Pilgrim Pines Conference Center, run by the East Coast Covenent Church organization. Great place in the summer with camping area, cabins, swimming, snack bar, b ball, v ball, a par 3 golf course etc etc

Spent lots of time there as a youngster at camp, and more recently with my family.

there is a facebook page and .org website.

You are awesome Guy, my big priorities for spring include, tee pads, finish bridge on #3, some more selective cutting on #4, #5, Sh@t load of pole sawing. You will be a tee pad master by this time, could really use your expertise on this as well, bring that kid of yours along too, I hear he's handy.

Need to start Fundraising for the back 9, club meeting DEc 11th might generate some ideas, I am in no rush to do the back 9 until I get some solid commitments from several people. It's all good though, as a fellow work beast you know the satisfaction that comes with the work. Hope to see you guys soon for a round or two.

AS many as you can muster up, that being said, we will once again need to jump through the ACOE hoops and get official permission before any chainsaw action begins on the back 9, best way to get this permission is to make the front 9 pop.

Rob, What is the chance of using a wood chipper to get rid of the myriad of brush everywhere?

Getting one from ACOE I would say slim to none, bringing one in ourselves would probably be the best bet, however. it would need to be portable, as you know getting heavy equipment out to the course is a challenge.

I definitely think it would be worth doing, we are having a club meeting DEC 11th to discuss next steps and fundraising. The big punch items we need $ for are.
9 more baskets!
Tee Pads
I wish I could write off the amount of $ I have spent on chainsaws, gas, oil, pole saw rentals, and lumber. Oh well, it's good Karma I suppose. I would love to hit powerball someday soon

Meeting Minutes and next steps

KDGC met last night and had a very productive meeting. Bob Johnson kept us on track and we were able to discuss all our agenda items. See below minutes composed by Bob for specifics. Winter may be here, but KDGC is in full effect.

December 11th, 2013;

...

Meeting Minutes:

Our December meeting was well attended considering it is off season and the holidays are approaching. The goal was to get together and start charting the future of Otter Brook DGC and the Keene Disc Golf Club. The major topic being next steps at OB. Rob gave us a quick history of the project and what it took to make these first 9 holes a reality. We then discussed whether to start the back 9 or focus on the front 9. It was agreed that we should finish front 9 first with tee pads and signage being the 2 main projects, with continuing work done on pruning, and limbing. We are going to work on a set of temporary signage to be followed with permanent signage once tees and pins are finalized. Gravel tees in 10x4 boxes made of 4x4 is what we are planning on installing.

In conjunction with that, we found out that we can put sponsor information on our signage. So hopefully we can get people to sponsor either tees, signs or both.
Other projects discussed where building additional benches, bridges, and bulletin board/Kiosks at hole 1 and 5

Next we discussed money. The club does currently have around 400$and we talked about ways to add to that. Some of the ideas were:

Selling another batch of bag tags
Selling T shirts
Selling Discs
Asking for donation on website via Pay Pal
A cut of league money going to the club
Sponsoring a Birdie Bash Tourney come this spring
Ace Race this fall
Local Sponsors
Disc Golf grants

We believe these ideas will generate enough money to fund the projects on the front 9. Rich agreed to look into a club specific acct and I hereby dub him treasurer! We also want to look into the viability of becoming a 501c3 non-profit. Besides formalizing the whole thing, it would make contributions of money and materials tax deductable and we agreed that would be handy going forward.

Next we had a heated discussion on bag tag etiquette. I don’t think it will be the last! :-)

Next we talked about the roll of the club. While we agreed supporting other projects was possible, it was agreed OB is our primary focus. We would like to see Granite Gorge have a good course, but at this point we have plenty to do at OB. Also left the door open for future projects if local popularity warrants it. We also talked about encouraging specialty leagues, and collaborating with other clubs around the state. (maybe a KHS or KSC league, women's league, juniors etc etc) We also talked about having a travelling club team. Discussed raising awareness of OB and disc golf in general and are looking into offering a community education class for 2014.

Our next meeting will be January 8th

So what we need is people to help make all this happen. Basically volunteer for stuff that you you like or have interest or connections with. Some of the tasks are:

We always need straight out man power.
Carpentry Skills
Organizing tournaments and or leagues
Writing Grants
Setting up a 501c3
Graphic design
Marketing/ Outreach
Social media
Fundraising
Or whatever you would have fun doing that helps move our vision for Otter Brook DGC forward. You have ideas, let us know. You can get a deal on lumber...let us know. Like digging? Definitely let us know!! If everyone chips in what they can, labor, money or talents, Otter Brook will become a must go to course in NH.
