Re: Dacey Community Fields
As long as all goes well Thursday night, we should have the green light to resume work on the course by the end of this week!
So, we're planning a WORK DAY THIS COMING SUNDAY, 7/21 AT 7AM!!!! Lots do get done since we weren't able to work for many months at this point. Installing additional signage, improving the main trail, mowing and trimming, and pole sawing are a few things that come to mind. We still need approval to restart work so this is still tentative. I will report back Thursday night with a definite answer.
We have a group of ~50 people coming to the course a week from this coming Friday to work for about 6 hrs. My plan is to have them complete the grunt work with respect to excavation and material hauling for tees for holes 1-3. The weekend of the 27 there will be another work party to complete the skilled end of the tee construction (placing/leveing fill, placing border, placing & compacting mat). Thats right, we might have 3 complete, legit tees by the end of July 28th.
If you like Dacey, like tees, or just like working in the woods, put 7/21, 7/27, and 7/28 on your calendar. Lets make it happen.

Just a heads up that on hole 17(new 17) there is an inground bees nest. It's right after the opening in the stone wall(right side of fairway) on the left side of the large rock. There is a hole behind the rock and that's where they are.

Is the course a little grown in right now or is it playing fairly well still? Was thinking about bringing a friend there to play casually and wasnt sure of the conditions because you mentioned the work stoppage.

Re: Dacey Community Fields
Only Mox and I for the work day this past weekend. We carved out a new entrance path for the course (no more hard switch back at the top), cleared back the brush off the hole 1 path, and cleared some air space on holes 9 & 10 with the pole saw.
I'm planning to hold a work day this Saturday (7/27) starting around 10:30 or so (need to buy Mookie Blaylock tickets at 10).
Come out and give us a hand. It takes a lot to build a disc golf course and I know a ton of people play out there. Dacey is a free course and all work out there is done by volunteers. It would be great if people showed appreciation for the fact that there is a course to play out there and came by to give us a hand.

Re: Dacey Community Fields
Great success at Dacey this weekend. A 35 person strong youth group from a local church came by the course Saturday and CRUSHED IT. Bob lended his services as well, then got paid back in Dacey karma.
The tees for holes 2-4 have been dug, holes 2 &3 have been base compacted and partially filled with stone, and the ridiculously heavy wooden beams have been moved to holes 2-5. We also have a new sign for the course to complement the new trail. Looks awesome. The Crossway Church youth group was really impressive with their ability to get all this done in a day and they definitely deserve a big thank you for their effort.
Pictures up on the FB page of the progress later.
No work this coming weekend, but August 10 & 11 will be spent finishing the tees on 1-4. There are 4 partial tees on the course now. Let's finish some up. The tees are going to be sick. 12' long vibram rubber between 2 6x6's with proper drainage. Two days good work with a few people and we can polish all 4 off.

Tee Party this weekend at Dacey! We'll be working Saturday and Sunday to finish off the first 5 pads (all at some level of partial construction). I'll be at Dacey at 8am both days. We've got all the equipment and materials down there, now its just time for some good old fashioned hard work. Weather should be perfect for working all weekend. Come down and give us a hand.

So whats with the tees being dug down? That's some awfully swampy land that will flood those pads fast.

Re: Dacey Community Fields
The tee's aren't "dug down". What you're looking at is actually a drainage layer which is going to prevent them from ponding. The final grade for the tee will be slightly above existing ground, about 2", which will also prevent ponding.
The tees haven't been finished yet because no one shows up at work days and I can't finish them alone. At the current rate we'll have zero tees complete ever, cause I can't get this stuff done alone.

You're not the only one. I do it alone at Austine course too...

I'm talking about 100 cubic yards of excavation then moving, placing, compacting, and leveling 270,000 lbs of crushed stone. That's what 36 tees entails.
If you did this on your own with no construction equipment or crew, good for you. If you didn't I don't get what point you're trying to make.

Sounds to me like he was empathizing with the fact that you've had to go it alone for the most part...don't think the comment was derogatory

Re: Dacey Community Fields
Tri-County Vocational High School has been hard at work for the last few days installing new walkways from hole 17 to 18. Eventually they replace every section currently on the course (as well as complete some other cool projects). Hats off to these kids. They've been working hard.
10am kick off for the work parties this weekend. Tons to do. New greens, cleaning fairways. If we get enough people we could throw a tee in the ground too!
See you tomorrow!

Workdays Saturday and Sunday this weekend. 9-2(ish) both days. Focusing on the hole 4 tee pad (long), clearing a new short tee for hole 4, walkways from 3-4, and the hole 1 long tee pad. With the Eagle Scout project starting next week and ANOTHER project to build a pad or two on the horizon, we may be able to get 6 pads in the ground by the time winter rolls around. Lets make it happen.

Re: Dacey Community Fields
The first tees have been built! Big thanks to Mox, Duder, Mel, Ray, Shevs, Nick, David, and Bob for making it all possible. It's a ton of work to build just one pad and these people made it possible.
About the pads... They're awesome. 12feet of fresh Fly 18 sitting atop crushed stone, all contained within 6X6 wooden beams. Level, pitched to drain, and well aligned with the fairway. Pictures up on the FB page, or you could just go check them out in person.
Tri-County Vocational High School has been hard at work building new walkways all over the course. These kids and their instructors deserve credit and thanks for all the work they're doing. Its hard work, and they're producing a professional quality product. I really can't say enough good things about their work. Keep it up guys.
Another Eagle Project kicking off next weekend. Building more tees. With some luck and plenty of hard work, we'll have 6 fully built tees at Dacey by the beginning of winter.

Re: Dacey Community Fields
The red and yellow tees flags have been removed and replaced with a single set of white flags. If you are looking to play the short layout, please use the white flags from now on.
We had an over eager disc golfer paint red marks on trees and stumps after the red flags were removed. We're pretty upset about this as it essentially amounts to defacing the course and the forest. If you would like to help out, please contact Jay Mello or Ryan Jette with the Town of Franklin. All work efforts at the course must be coordinated with the town to avoid unfortunate circumstances like this. In the future, we ask that no work be performed on the course unless approved or managed by the town. The flags were pulled for a reason and its really disappointing to see red marks all over the course. This is the second time misguided and damaging "self directed" work has been performed on the course and future instances will be treated as vandalism. Thanks for your help in keeping Dacey beautiful and natural.
