I will be at Cross Farms between 9 and 930 on Friday the 9th.

Les, can you contact the town and ask for an open gate that day? If we have a couple cars coming would be easier to park at hole one. If not, have to park at the school then walk over. Not a big deal just easier.

John you still available for Friday?? It might just be you and I.

I'll ask for it to be open Friday - on, if possible up to the tournament.
Good suggestion.

Les, sorry but it turns out i'm playing in the Minuteman Classic at borderland and I won't be able to make the work day. Count me in for the tournament though, the check's in the mail.

Les, Sorry, but Shane needs my help (yeah right) at the Minuteman Classic at Borderland so I won't be there to help on Saturday. I will try to get out to Cross Farms on Sunday or some afternoon next week to do some general cleanup of debris.

A lot of work accomplished by crews over the last couple of days. Some big trees and a lot of small scraggly nuisance trees removed. Sticks and stick piles picked up and moved more to the sides of the fairways. Tee boxes required chipping of ice by pickaxe to get down to the stone dust below. Some of each box was cleared hopefully allowing a strong melt to occur over the next week. The good news is that we are expecting some very warm days over the next week to help clear away the ice and snow prior to the tournament.
I would like to extend thanks to all of the volunteers that came out to make this effort (you know who you are).

The Streeter Brothers from Buffumville are looking to visit Cross Farms this thursday afternoon. Anyone available to show the course off? Is it worth the trip down or wait untill spring?

CROSSFARMS

Post by STREETER821 »

The Streeter brothers made the trip to Cross Farms on Thursday. Nice course, very technical, only 35 minutes from Buffumville, I thought that was pretty nice. Teepads where rough, but not bad for winter. Would be real nice if concrete pads where installed, any intentions? Is there a possability to take out a few more trees, and make some of the holes a little longer? We played three rounds, Should have played two. My appologies to Shawn Mullen for the very bad 3rd round.

The course is slowly improving. It takes a long time take a wooded area and turn it into a fully matured course. We did a lot of work over the last year to get it where it is. This year official tee signs, maps and scorecards will come out. More work on the teepads is scheduled to happen. We hope to go the flypad route.
We are going to leave the trees alone for a season until we have played it a bit more and have some firm ideas as to which new directions we want to explore. Trees will fall, the course will get longer with time, you can be assured of that. Enjoy it while you can. Hope to see you there.

The course has dried out incredibly. Still muddy teepads on a few holes, but not that bad overall. There is still Ice covering the stream on #14.

Get your season low scores now before the leaves are out.

See ya there ! :alien:

The course is now dry except for the slowly receding ice flow on 14 and some water running across the fairway of 10.
I managed to shoot a 56 yesterday. I love it when the leaves are down, but I'm looking forward to foliage and warm temps. :colors:

The leaves are green. The course is beautiful. It's time to come back to Cross Farms and give it another try. Especially to those of you who only tried it for the first time at our tournament "On that there Wintry Day".
I played it three times last night including one glow round.

I'm always afraid I will get impaled by a mini-stump if I play glow there. I had an amazing round yesterday... I was even par through 17 holes and then shot a 6 on hole 18... that was very painful.

Les, I played Cross Farms for the first time with my brother and Chris Gagne this past Sunday on our way to Wickham Park. Just wanted to tell you that we were thoroughly impressed and enjoyed the course very much. Also wanted to say thank you to you and to everyone else involved for all the work that’s been put into it. In my opinion the course was tight and challenging. It demanded finely executed shots with an emphasis on picking the right lanes and committing to the strategy well before throwing the disc. Good shots got rewarded and errant shots were equally punished. We found the course to be scenic with the foliage coming into full bloom. The rock walls gave it added character. Also found the course very easy to navigate and liked the “rooster” signage that although simplistic was very accurate. I particularly liked the steppingstone walkway (from hole 9 to hole 10 I believe). It kept our feet dry and blended in nicely with the rest of the scenery. Keep up the good work. We’ll be back soon I hope.

Tuesday rounds

Post by Mike Ellis »

Les and Dave,

Are you guys playing XFarms every Tuesday? What time do you usually tee off? My Tuesdays have freed up again and I would be glad to join you.

BTW, any idea what happened to the lost disc return box at the first tee? I've managed to loose 2 drivers in the last 3 weeks and was hoping they might turn up again.

Mike,
We usually get out to the park by 5:15 on tuesdays. The lost and found is now lost. I can provide another one, also need to put garbage bags in the cans since they fill up fast.
See you soon.

Played the course yesterday afternoon (first time since late March) and it was in beautiful condition.

It is a terrific course.

Also, was very pleased to not see any litter at all on the course.

Hey Les,

Is there any update on the tee signs/kiosk etc. It really seems like play at X-Farms has fallen off since Wickham has opened. I've been there on beautiful Saturday afternoons and been one of 3 or 4 golfers on the entire course.

I'm definitely willing to put some work in on the course before the summer is over and help improve the course in any way possible.

The parks people have been slow to get the signs and such done. I have written to them several times but nothing seems to light a fire under them.

I would like to organize a work day sometime in the near future to clean up the tee boxes, add stone dust etc. The park people say they can dump stone dust for us if given sufficient warning.

Sure, Wickham gets the bulk of the traffic this time of year. I kind of like the fact that there is no waiting and it's a bit cooler in the Summer than Wick. Now that the leaves are out, the course is a real pleasure to play.

Just visited the course a few days ago, very beautiful and extremely challenging. Really forced me to work on my tight woods shots. I'll definitely be back soon.

Are there scorecards available for it anywhere? Or are there plans to write the pars on the signs (love the roosters) so I can make my own? I figured that it might be inferred that they're all par 3, but some of those holes are loooong par 3's.

Soory, I need to drop more scorecards off. The town has been lame about things like signs, scorecards, in fact just about everything.

All holes are 3's except holes 12 & 13 which are 4's.

Thanks for the nice words. We like the course too!

There is a lot of pollen on the baskets these days and it looks almost like rust. I assure you though that it is merely pollen fused onto the basket. Feel free to wash or scratch the stuff off if you need proof.

Otherwise, all is well. See there on Tuesdays. :salut:

Always with the chainsaws.

You won't be happy until the course is nothing but big open fields.

Have you tried the course since the leaves came out. No, I thought not.

Les,

Haven't been to CF since the March tourney. How's it looking? I heard some trees were cleared on a few of the fairways. Have there been any other changes?

Thanks
