I lost a beat up pink sidewinder on 16
a few weeks back in the deep snow. Went off a tree and went left.
Snow is still kinda deep. Hit me up if
anyone comes across it as the snow melts
down. Thanks.

Hole 8's basket was crooked when I approached it yesterday...there appears to be some damage where the basket piece connects to the pole.

Jimi, if it is not raining for dubs Saturday, we should make it a trash round. I will bring a bunch of trash bags and will give a 6-pack to whichever card cleans up the most trash.

Those straighten out pretty easy. It takes 3 people and a level. Just push and tweak until it's straight.
I don't have much time lately or I would definitely be around to help out. It's too bad to hear the trash is piling up.

Re: Page Park - Bristol, CT -
I had posted in another section but since this is specifically Page Park, my home course I Want to put it here too for those who might not browse the categories.
I have played 15 courses since April this year, and the one thing I noticed about a few courses that made them terrific were wood chips, sounds simple enough eh?
We have tons, literally tons of dead wood at Page Park, if we could get a two day helpers event going, we could soend one day with a few groups of 3 or 4 guys each group to go hole by hole with rakes and hoes and pull out the downed, dead wood from the fairways and borders and use the larger stuf to make boundries, then stack all the smaller stuff in a couple piles on each hole, a pile near the tee and a pile near the basket and one in the middle, and do this on all the wooded holes.
Then the next day, return with one or more wood chippers and the same people or more people and rakes, so we can go hole by hole and chip up the wood and spread it on the holes with roots, stumps, stones, etc.. and build up each fairway 6 inches or more so all sorts of reasons, it is easier to walk on, it will remain drier, and offers a uniform look etc. it just makes the course look and feel so much better plus it cleans up the rough very well and makes finding discs a lot easier.
Anyway it is my suggestion, I would be happy to be a part of such an endeavor.
I played a course in southern Penn, it is called Tyler state park, all I can say is WOW we could so easily make Page just as nice for free really minus the gas for the chippers and the volunteers time.,, mine included.
I see the same peopel playing it week after week and I am sure many of them would come and help out for a two day clean up event that brings positive change to the course.
We could also use some of the dead wood for posts to hang bags, near the benches and make sure every hole has a bench, even if it is a hand made one from logs, as long as it is a place to rest on each hole and a place to hang your bag and a good clear marker for the hole.
If you never heard of Tyler I use it as an example because it is heavily wooded yet easy to navigate and fun to play, they also added three basket locations to every hole, they move them around per the situation, tourneys, etc.. so at the tee is a wooden sign with an arrow you can spin, it is set at which color basket you can throw to either red, green or blue I believe, anyway Page could be equally as nice with a clean up effort and a few tweaks.
I am willing to take part in the physical work that need be done, we need others though and access to some or at least one wood chipper.

I like ideas.
We work hard on Page and there are certain limitations.
We are not allowed to bring in a chipper or any power tools. This has been the rule since day 1 in 2009
ANY AND ALL work at Page needs to be approved by GBDGA and then taken to to the City for approval.
Things do not move fast as everything is done by and paid for by volunteers and the course fund.
Tyler has state resources and is 20- years old. I do hope we make Page nice like that eventually.

Re: Page Park - Bristol, CT -
James, thank you for the reply.
I understand what you mean regarding the resources we have to work with vs other places but I think this is a good idea and there are other ways to achieve it.
We can chip our chips elsewhere on private land or if we have a landscaper in our midst, etc.. and use a few guys like me with trucks to go there and load up on chips and then use wheelbarrels to distribute them, my first idea regarding chippers was the base, if we have to tweak it for it to happen then lets tweak it
I am sure if we walked someone from the city through the course and let them trip a few hundred times and explained the liability will decrease by making it more uniformed and easier to walk on plus easier to play perhaps there could be some considerations, nothing is ever black and white, guidelines are set to protect the park, that makes sense, but sometimes for the better of the park and those involved it needs to be looked at again, a conversation wouldnt be the end of the world at least and lets find a practical way to do this, it would transform the park.
Also I am sure members have trucks, some have chippers, we could find ways to make it happen or ask to be granted a temporary clean up pass that would allow us to "Minimize" the fire hazard of all this dead wood scattered all over the forest in Page around now dozens of players that walk through daily, if you look at it in a way that protects the park and not as a favor to us then it makes more sense and serves to protect everyone.
Growth happens, things change, they get better or they get worse.
Before you decide we just cant do it cant we find a way to try to make it happen?
Its not just about appearance, it will improve the course for everyone who encounters it.
better drainage, softer terrain to walk on, good use of all the dead wood, removing dead wood from dry areas in the park where they could be ignited by lightening or another spark and start a fire, etc..
If you have ever been to a course where they have done this, it is amazing, everything is easier to look at, discs are easier to find, fairways are easily marked and seen by all, no more tripping on roots, stumps and rocks, or walking through the mud in spring, etc.. it makes the course many times better for everyone.

Re: Page Park - Bristol, CT -
A friend and I played Page this past Sunday morning and the course is looking good...but there is still a lot of trash, broken bottles, beer caps, butts and nip bottles all over the course. Not to mention a homeless person living in the woods on the right side of Hole 8 by the ravine. I try and pick up as much trash as I can when I play either Page or Cross Farms, but it's getting to the point where a small bag doesn't cut it anymore and a large trash bag is needed. The trash cans and black plastic bags seem to be getting used. Some of the trash is from us, the users of the course, but a lot of it comes from the "less desirables" who don't care about anyone but themselves.
The wood chips that have been added to Cross Farms definitely add to that course and the same thing can be said for Wickham and I think a few holes at Page would benefit as well. Just my 2 cents....

Re: Page Park - Bristol, CT -
Anyway I wanted to just add, that whether my idea about wood chips can ever be realized or not I do want to get more involved with the local group that supports and promotes and maintains the course, I play it every day and live very close by, I wouldnt mind helping in many ways, I have a truck and I am a mason by trade, I am retired with a disability so I have lots of time, I ran my restoration company for many years and know how to manage and coordinate efforts to maximize results, etc..
I know there will always be hurdles with the town and page park but there are some good points to consider and liability being what it is, free solutions can sometimes be well received.
A friend of my wife's decided to start playing, he got a couple discs and went to Page park to play his first ever round of disc golf, he was very excited, somewhere after the 3rd hole he was walking to retrieve a disc and stepped into a small hole and broke his foot.
This is exactly the kind of thing I am trying to prevent and from my perspective with my injuries every root, stone, or other obstruction is painful and dangerous and would be well worth the efforts to eliminate them all together especially if we can do it without power tools or any cost to the town.
covering them up with a uniformed layer of wood chips 6" to 12" thick will bring many positive changes and I would be willing to use my truck my time, my gas, and do what I can to get it done on the 4 or 5 holes that need it, the rest of the course is fine, but those 4 or 5 holes with all roots and stones and holes that swamp out in the spring and are hard to walk through all summer can be covered and create a nice look, safer walkway and a clear designation for fairways.
We could even bring the brush ourt of the park to another lot, chip it there and truck it back then wheel barrel it to the fairways, etc.. anyway this is my cause but I am definitely on board for working with the established crew who are part of the mailing list and page park group.

A huge thanks to the tee shovel-er. Tees are shoveled AND sanded! Not even played from yet!
I know 14 15 and 16 are done anyway. It's a big job!

Thank You whoever did this!
