It was all ice today, I will head back tomorrow with rock salt. Friday is supposed to be in the 40's.

When is the challenge?

When is the West Thompson work day? Played Saturday and the course looks good, but the annual removal of winter trash, sticks, etc needs to be done.

Are any of you taking the trashbags out of the trash barrels at Tee 1? I emptied the trash barrels on Monday, yet today (Thursday) they are overflowing with beer cans/bottles and food containers...and the bag was not in the can any more. If you are taking the bags out of the trash cans to pick up trash while playing the course, PLEASE DON'T. If you would like bags to pick up trash, I will gladly give them to you. You can stop by the office between 7 AM and 4PM Monday through Friday.

Or better yet, pack-in and pack-out your beer cans and bottles.

Hello Ranger Kathy

I am from the Tully Dam area and was just speaking with ranger James West and Jake Vorce today in regards to the trash issue on ACOE property

same problem...D and D,Fast Food...beer,water bottles and some mics items..well besides cig butts...grrrr

so I feel your pain...we have tried the ethics sign and blah blah..to no avail...sometimes we have locals who get the cans..but when we depend on them they often no show messing the cycle up...so we limited the cans at tully and the rangers try to keep up..but humans just are terrible nowadays with trash...

the local DG heros pick stuff up..and often have no option but to pile around bin as they are filled...

so that said..I tend to not fight human nature because when I do I often lose or just get stressed...so over time I have now learned to roll with it..so that means I assume we will always hae trash...people will pick it up but it is lots for the rangers to keep up with

so I have noticed some new compact trash bins also separated by glass/metal etc etc and believe are solar powered to do the compacting

http://www.wm.com/enterprise/municipalities/community-solutions/solar-powered-trash-compactor.jsp

a few brands are out there..but they seem to be the future and I would assume offer many advantages one less time changing them out...possible source of revenue(metal weight) and place to have signage..and they help in overall recycling efforts

I see huge success in my local area parks that have them..

not sure of the cost..and I know ACOE budgets were crushed this year....there may be some grant and/or option to get $$$ for them if they can then save money over X years

well just a thought as I will be urging rangers at Tully to explore this option

GL and thanks for your hardwork to keep a nice DG course going

It's about $6K for each. Wow!

It may be worth the money and less trash pile ups.

Due in part to the erosion problem hole #14 at West Thompson will be re configured this spring. Get in your final throws on one of the best risk/reward holes in New England.

Next up- Hole 18 evolves...

The new tee box will be adjacent to hole 9's tee box and the fairway will run down an ancient path that crosses 14's existing fairway. Its just above the usual high water mark (if there is one) and run parallel to the shoreline. The basket will be on the hill,in the field to the right of 15's tee box. Its a tight channel for 175-200 feet then opens to a slight dog right 100 feet into the field.
Somewhat lefty friendly but pretty fair from either side.

The polehole will be left in the ground at the current location so we can revert back in a few years if we want to.

Lake is high. Hole 16 has been flooded for a week and unplayable. All other holes are playing fine. Hole 6 has some standing water but nothing bad.
