Re: Park City Disc Golf - Bridgeport, CT
After playing a few rounds yesterday I was hanging on hole 1 throwing multi drives. The school next to the park let the kids out for a bit to enjoy the day. A few kids ran up to hole 10's basket and started climbing on it, standing on the lower cage messing with the flag. I walked over an asked them to get down and not climb on it in the future. They explained that they were not doing anything wrong. I pointed out the basket was not designed to hold their weight and it would eventually bend and most likely break. They said " my bad" and headed back to the school. I did not see a teacher or aid any where in the park. It's possible they were near the parking lot at the school where the majority of the students were hanging out.
I wonder if this is a daily occurence and how much climbing the basket can actual take before it bends.

Re: Park City Disc Golf - Bridgeport, CT
Steve, thanks for stepping up and discussing this with them. I've had many conversations with the school kids and teachers that accompany them. Unfortunately this is a fairly common occurrence with randoms using the park and (believe it or not) disc golfers. Already basket #3 has been tugged on a lot and is loose. Basket #2 was tampered with a few days ago and the locking tab bent down significantly. And no doubt the basket for 18 has been sufficiently messed with. For me it helps keeping it in perspective...this is Bridgeport! Regardless please speak up when you see any vandalism. And hopefully by summer there will be constant players and less vandals.
Oh also...when I speak to the paintballers, atvs, school kids...I always stress how much volunteer time and money has been spent to help revitalize this park. This usually gets them to back off the attitude.
Quick story.......one time, there was a huge family gaggle of paintballers on the rock outcropping next to 2s tee. And I noticed the tee sign had been covered with orange paint. I looked over and proclaimed loudly "oh noooooo, what happened to that sign". Everyone stopped talking and looked over. Of course I was putting on a huge act, but they got the point when I mentioned all the volunteers, time, and money spent putting in the dg course with approval from the bridgeport park and rec commission. I was happy to hear them immediately apologize and one guy cleaned off the sign. Sometimes it doesn't go over so well, but despite the kids with guns bad mixture, I've never been shot.
Steve, did you see the new throwing lane (ie. alt tee) on your hole?

MAubin gave me the 5 cent tour during the first round. The course is looking great! The dedicated team of volunteers has really put a Herculean effort in getting this course together. My hat is off to all of you.

PS the new anny route on long 12 is a lot larger than I had envisioned. The straight ahead shot through the split tree is now the risky route.

For some the straight shot will still be preferred because a bad shot in the anhyzer gap that doesn't turn right could be BIG trouble.

Anny route on Hole 12 is an awesome shot and definitely a bag emptier ...
Also really like the medium and long tees on Hole 15 ... I think they both turn a tough par 3 into a very fair par 4 ... Can't wait to see the next set of changes to Park City ...

Glad you are enjoying the course. Our 2 sets of tees are a great course perk. People are loving the new shorts.

Re: Park City Disc Golf - Bridgeport, CT
Adam - serious question regarding hole 18 ...
the tee pad is just generous enough to allow a runup and hit the left side gap (between the tree and the wall) ... do you intend to keep this as a potential flight line, or do you plan on implementing a mando so that the center gap is the only allowable flight line?
I think the basket is reachable via a big arm shot taking the left side hyzer line, but there is a very real risk of turning a disc over and ending up in the road. That risk is significantly reduced by forcing the straight ahead shot.

This has already been decided. I never intended for players to be able to go around on the right side. The cement tee will be backed up almost to the wall. Once this is done, the little pine tree should block all righty backhand hyzers thus forcing the straight shot. However, this is not foolproof and people could still flip it towards the parking lot (though very unlikely).
Already I've seen people going for the straight gap, but flipping it early by accident. In fact ombudsman hit Dustin's car doing this.

Re: Park City Disc Golf - Bridgeport, CT
BTW I've called the Bridgeport non-emergency number a few times recently. Please help out the course and do this whenever there are dirt bikes & atvs ripping up our course. I also am starting to call when I see those epic paintball and air gun battles.
Put this number in your cell so you have it......
203-576-7671
Basically, all they do is listen to you and ask for the closest intersection (which is tricky because of their computer). I'm starting to say:
corner of Madison and Gedulig
90 Acres
Veteran's Memorial Park
next to Discovery Museum
next to Fairchild Wheeler golf course
near Sacred Heart
I usually let them know that my family had to leave the park because of the air gun or bb gun battles and dirt bikers that are running us off the trails.
You don't have to leave your name.

More tee work will be completed today, but the schedule has changed accordingly:
17's tee is almost done being prepped. I will finish tamping the gravel into place and installing wire mesh.
18's tee will be started today and hopefully finished tomorrow.
As of NOW, cement is being delivered on Friday. We WILL be ready!

Re: Park City Disc Golf - Bridgeport, CT
The good news is we have two beautiful forms ready to go (17 & 18), the bad news is our cement mixing truck fell through.
The town is digging out there portable gas mixer for us to use, but it will be a lot of work to do this way. We were hoping to pour Wednesday depending on the personnel. IS anyone going to be available on Wednesday to help with this

Hey guys. Did you pull a rake through the cement before it dried. Leaving it smooth(like the pic on facebook) is a no no.

I didn't see any Facebook photos, but we did it right don't you worry. We used the preferred astro turf method. A rake would look terrible.

That was me that posted something in Facebook. I couldn't help it admiring our hard work. Looking at the surface let's me visualize different designs on the Tee.

We need to figure out when we will unveil the new concrete tees. It will either be Saturday 3/31 or Monday 4/2 for league.

Re: Park City Disc Golf - Bridgeport, CT
Bunch of stuff going on at the course, both good and bad.
The bad:
- ATVers are dismantling part of 16s wall and making jumps with the flat stones
- One of the main trees on the right gap on 1 is broken. It was leaning pretty good and probably a matter of time. I suspect either someone climbed on the trunk and broke it OR it came down on the super windy day Monday.
The good:
- Long 12 tee has been fixed up and is much improved
- Short 9 has been stone dusted and extended
- We will open the two concrete tees on Saturday morning. Thinking about having a very informal gathering to mark this occasion and maybe play a quick round.
