You could feel it in the air (no, not the wind because there actually wasn’t much of that tonight). It was actually something else, something that is hard to explain exactly. Each of us felt it, though. The first league at Pyramids Disc Golf Course!

Twenty-three disc golfers showed up to compete at what is arguably the best league in the area. Cards were handed out at 4:30 to get everyone out on the course with daylight being something of concern. The weather was a brisk 30 degrees and would continue to get colder as the players finished up all 18 holes in the light of day.

The first league of the year could not have gone better for some OR worse for others. The newly sponsored Prodigy Disc “Protégé”, Stephen Economos and partner Donnie T took down league with a 46 on the silver layout AFTER a throw-off with Matt Sroka and Bob Tuttle who also shot the same. Three spots were paid out with third place taking shooting a 49.

While Grayum/Binley were struggling through the course and considering their bleak disc golf futures Grayum chimes in as they approach hole 6 tee pad saying, “Jeremy, just ace this hole so that we can have some sort of consolation prize, we can split the $20 and go home”. Binley decided to do just that. He through a mid-range disc (Roc?) down the middle and watched as his disc skipped up the hill and landed in the bottom of the basket while missing all the chains. Grayum and Binley could split $23 and go home happy! OR NOT! Apparently Matt Kobel and partner Aaron K were also dreaming of the ace pot. Kobel threw a Discraft disc (buzz?) on hole 8 silver and watched as it pured the whole fairway to smash chains and stick for the dream worthy ace! Two aces at the first league! Many more to come!

The $13 birdie pot was also hit tonight by Sroka and partner Bob Tuttle.
The weather is only going to get nicer, the crowd is only going to get bigger, the competition is only going to get stiffer, and the good times are going to get GOODer! You don’t want to miss this league.

Oh ya, the stats should get more in depth this year with specific hole stats coming, as well as the league standings sheet showing every week score instead of only the top ten like before (the top ten will still be counted for league standings BUT every week will be shown so you can see how you have progressed through the season). Your top ten will be highlighted yellow.
