15 may be tough with the remnants of that cobble road in there, maybe build UP?

It is not necessary to dig down before putting material down. It is best to work with a level surface underneath and remove any large rocks before laying down material, but it can be done without pick axes! 15 could be done without digging down, no problem.

15 is already dug down quite a bit from the wear and tear that's it's taken over the past handful of years anyway. They are all going to have to be done eventually anyway right?

I thought the objective was to get all of the white tee's done before moving over the blue since that course is the one that's played most often by park users?

I'm good with anything you guys want... it's all progress.
#15 is a must IMO. I would like to work some of the rocks out
at the back of the tee before leveling. I really want to do these right,
so that they don't come back to haunt us later. (frost lifting)

#17 white is always in disrepair and should be high on the short list.

I don't see the need to do all whites first, I have visions of #1 Blue
with a pad and free of ice all winter... #17 blue with a pad for a
real run-up on our signature hole.

Just my $.02

I'll be out on #15 Saturday (tomorrow) morning at 10:30.
I have a couple of volunteers, but could use more. Hope to
bang out the last two pads we have.
The stone and dust is in place (thanks Dave!~).

Anyone want to join us, bring gloves and a shovel.

:D #15 done..
A huge "Thanks You" out to Gary for putting in a
3 hour pull on the new tee. All rocks, no fun.
We came up a little short on the stone layer, but
the pad should be fine... (Gary's back... probably not)

#17 is ready to go, maybe next week.

Nice, sorry I couldn't make it, can't wait to play 15 of a real tee instead of through a rock road. I just played Mt. Kisco, they haven't been able to do any work to that courses since Steady Ed designed it. The tee's were ROUGH....

The hole 15 teepad looks amazing and plays great! The amount and size of the rocks that came out of there are staggering ... thanks for putting in the time and effort Dean and Gary! I put that tee-pad in a couple of years ago and can remember the pain in the *bleep* it was as every shovel/pick axe strike resulted in a clang. Well done :thumright:

Hole 17 pad was put in in about an hour. With 4 of us working in what seemed like flawless harmony, it really was not bad at all and quite gratifying. I strongly recommend that players continue to stay after Sunday league to continue the mini-work sessions and we will all benefit in the long run.

Any word on where that giant stack of timbers came from by hole 7? If we have use of them, oh the things that I can imagine 8-)

When (and if) Gary recovers, make sure you thank him... :)
This pad was desperately needed, but no one wanted to tackle it.
(ankle biting rock pile, that it was)

It was great playing with you Kevin, hopefully we'll get another
day like that soon. It would have been a perfect night for glo...

You guys did an amazing job on 15! We were saying on Sunday that it completely changes the hole...now you don't have to worry about breaking your ankle, and can tee off with the utmost ease.

As for 17....first shot off the new tee-pad.....ACE!

All the new tee pads look & play great, although 15 white is my personal favorite - amazing work.

Matt how are you collecting donations for the remaining pads?

Good question...
We are in the process of becoming a non-profit.
Friends of Disc Golf at Borderland

Until then, anyone on the committee would accept a check or cash.
If you see Matt, Myself, Ken, Rich or Scooter on the course, feel free
to give.

(9 pads down, 27 to buy and install)

Thanks so much

finally got to play borderland this week, 15 is amazing!!!! what a difference, I noticed on 9 and 10 that the front of the pad is starting to bubble up a bit, looks like maybe its getting pushed forward. Nothing serious, but could get annoying...

How are those fly pads working? We are having problems with ours in Wolfe Woods. Since most of the tee pads are in the shade a green slime has formed making it almost impossible to tee off. SUCKS! We didn't elevate the tees so that could be the problem. Anyway, we may have to rip some up and just go back to the dirt.

Cuts, maybe there is something that you could treat them with in order to eliminate growth? I would contact someone like Reese to find out if this has happened before and if there is a low cost and better solution than ripping them up. THey are expensive!

We have not seen any slime on the pads, and hopefully won't have to worry about that. We did a lot of prep work to get the pads installed. We removed the old material, laid down 2" of crushed stone, then stone dust on top of that for the pad to be level and stable. The water does not sit on the pads for any length of time, so maybe that is the problem with the ones at Wolf Woods.

Hey Craig,

Before pulling up the pads from the tees...

I want to suggest that some chlorine bleach to kill what ever is growing on the pads...

once the slime is treated and mostly removed...I would try and work some salt into the pad surfaces...

salt Not ice melt...rock salt may work...regular table salt should work...salt could be a slip factor if too much is used...

Alot of the ice melts are sometimes a calcium chloride mix...not sure if this will chemically affect the pad material...

The bleach will kill organics on the pad surface to start and salt should inhibit new growth...the salt will also help with any water freezing on the pads...

If possible a pressure washer to clean off the slime may work pretty well...

Once the pad material is clean again... a sporadic application of bleach sprayed across the pads...should help keep the "slime" from getting "rooted" to the pad surface...

Hope this helps...

Thanks,

Bleach will definitely degrade the pads if allowed to sit on the material for any length of time. If you were to use bleach, you should totally flush it off thoroughly, like with a garden hose for an extended flushing.

Hey,

I assume that the green slime is a mold or mildew type thing...

I agree with Felix that rinsing it thoughouly after an application of a chlorine bleach solution is key...

I have one Fly18 pad that has been out side in the elements for about six years...

They need to be pinned along the edges ...they definitely want to walk forward...as players drive off the surface...

I have never noticed anything growing on this pad...I will check it out closer...

I did think that the spot where most players plant and twist there foot...
Starts to show distortion and wear over time...I think Reese suggests rotating the pad...to help with this issue...

It will be interesting over time to hear how these work at various locations and varied conditions and differing installation methods...

Thanks,

any idea when you'll purchase more pads? If you donate a pad do you get to choose the hole?

Thanks, our goal would be to have cement tees on every hole on all Skylands courses. I'm suprised more NE course do not have cement tees. Prob has to do with the parks reluctance to approve permanent tees. Good luck with pads, Im sure they will be great. I just find em too slick when wet. But, better than mud.
