If everything goes as planned we will have a grand opening event on Sunday the 22nd. This will give people a chance to play the course before the tournament. You dont have to be a memeber to play this day, but non-members will pay $5 course fee.

I also hope Hyland lifetime and yearly memeberships tags/I.D's will be in for this day. Look for post in Happenings and hook ups in the next couple of weeks for more details.

As it stands for now it will be members only. I think next year the owner of the land will realize that this a good thing and open it up to the public. Once the course is open, memberships for the rest of the year will be $30. Next year that will go up. Remember though, a member can bring up to 3 guests as long as they pay the $5 and play on the members card

Worked all day Saturday on hole 13, cleaned up 95% of the stuff that was cut. Need about another hour and that hole is complete. That leaves a little work around basket on 12 and its ready for weed whacking, spraying ivy and mowing. There are 4 faiways the need to be whacked Luckly this year the owner has had his guy mowing a lot of the areas I need mowed. Baskets will start going in soon.
I was planning on a grand opening on Sunday the 22nd but I think I will shoot for Friday the 20th. We'll kick of the Friday night leagues at Hyland. Let's shoot for 5:30 random draw dubs to start it off. I will post it under leagues and Happening and hook-ups when I know for sure.
Just a side note Hyland's will have 90% less pickers and lost discs this year.

Well Friday will not work. The baskets may all be in, but there is some T box work, some weed whacking and mowing still to do. Sunday will be the day. I will post a new topic about it. I will be out there all day Friday if you have nothing to do I could use more hands.

Thanks John, All of the tools you mentioned will be needed. I dont think there is anymore chainsawing left but you can bring it just in case we find a tree that people think should come down. Weed whacker is the best tool. Hyland is at 199 Arnold rd Fiskdale. I will be there about 7am.. You can show up anytime. Give me ring when you get there. 4132376813.
If anyone else is available we could use the extra hands. Baskets will be going in..........Playing on Sunday say 11am

New this year. Parking will be in the field on the left as you come up the road to Hyland. Then look for the trail in the corner of the field to hole one. We will no longer be able to use the dirt road to get there. Thanks.......... Pass it on.

Eric I cant make it today. I gave team Borderland tags to Greg Wintrob he said he was going to see someone on the team. Tags will be at Boderland on Thursday unless he hands them out first.
There has got to be someone who can show Eric around the course.
What time do you think you will be there? I may be able to make it but dont hold me to it. After 12:30 would be the earliest I could get there.

Pretty easy to follow. Park in field on left. Hole 1 is past sign on edge of field. Follow flags to next Tee box. Keep your drive in the field on 7. After 10 walk up behing brewery past pavilion to the right side of it there is a kids play area 11 is just past it. look out for stumps on 12 and 13. If you are by yourself play it safe on 16 since the whole fairway was not mowed and there is a bees nest that is marked with white arrow. Have fun enjoy. I am trying to get someone out there to meet you.

Since I wont be able to make Maple Hill league on time tonight. I will be building a Tee box on hole 14 at Hyland. This hole is in serious need of one. If anyone has so time to help that would be cool. There was a bunch of 6x6's dumped off so I have material to start with.

Hi Don,
My temporary Tag has been destroyed the tin part has crumpled up and fallen off (the awesome red beer cap remover is just fine however). Just curious as to when the permanent tags would be coming in. I have not even had a chance to play the course yet!

Ya I knew the tin part would not last. I hope to have the real tags by the end of the week. I would like to hand them out during the tournaments this weekend.

We now have a place to sign in and pay. I cleaned out the sugar shack. It is located across the street from the disc golf parking lot. If you walk up towards the brewery, there is a set of stone stairs that lead right to it. Please use the stairs and not the dirt road to the right of the shack. There is a sign in sheet on the back of the door when you walk in. Please read the rules and guide lines. There are some rules that don't apply to other courses. I also have a few dry erase boards in there. One is for lost discs, write down where you lost one and color. There is a small one with aces written on it, if you get one add it. There is another one on the back of the door. This one will be used for special notes and announcements. Lets keep this place neat and clean. Leave things the way you find them in there. There are pencils, take one/leave one. I will have score cards to put in there soon. Feel free to leave disc golf swag in there, pictures, news articles, stickers, banners, whatever you may have disc golf related. I will try to find a few small wooden chairs to put in there also.

ERoc and myself are checking out the course around 1:00 on Thurs. It's going to be our first time there, if any free time locals are in the area we would love a tour.

I noticed today some damage to the course that happened over the weekend. Some of the thick braided vines at the top of 14 near the big rock were ripped apart. Wendy spent hours clearing and cleaning to expose them. They were covered with smaller vines and small trees. We left them there because they look neat and added a little protection from a disc while standing near the big rock. They are/were not in the way at all. A couple of the trees on the right just past the T box on 15 were pushed over also. This damage was completely unnecessary.
The sign in sheet tells me who was there. I would expect a member to know better. If it was one of the guests of a member, that member should not let people do things like this. Remember you as a member are responsible for your guests. You will be the one to loose out if they do wrong. I will not allow s*&t like this to happen. Please pass the word on to others. Acts of vandalism will be not be easy to explain or deal with when the owner of the land hears about it. I gave him my word that I will control problems.

This Saturday at Hyland Wendy and I will be holding a disc golf clinic. There are many members of the brewery that are interested in learning how to play. We will teach them the basics and then send them out to play. If anyone would like to help out, we will be starting about 1.
Then Friday the 22nd I will be holding a putting challenge for charity. This will be inside the brew cellar. $2 to get in $1 to payout $1 for charity. Pro, am, rec, and newbies.
Last time we did this inside it was a blast. This will be a special night. Here are the details from Pioneer brewing co.
YUP IT'S BOOKED FRIDAY OF OKTOBERFEST WITH THE STUNTMEN - Yes this should be an evening to remember. The Friday night of Oktoberfest or Oktoberfest Eve as we are calling it will be a night filled with joy. The Drunk Stuntmen will perform for what could very well be the last time indoors at our small brewery. They will perform acoustically. Don and Wendy Boutin will also set up some disc shots for charity. People can make a donation and take chances in a disc putting competition in the back hallway. Of course we will have great Oktoberfest Lager for you to Enjoy. Put in on your schedule now and get here for 5:00 PM. Friday October 22nd.

A couple of people have reported finding tics. I have not had any and I spend a lot of time there. I know they like hole 4 and 5. Just wanted warn people. This time of year tics are out in full force trying to latch on to anything they can before they get burried in snow. This goes for any course. Check yourself before going to bed if you played that day or even spent time outside. Use deet on your lower half.

Just so I am clear, this is a pay to play course, but you can only come with a member? How many guests can a member bring? Membership fees are annual or lifetime? Do members get free beer?
Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that disc getting bigger?". Then it hits me.

free beer? Hylands is pretty sweet, but it's not Utopia yet.

I think a member can bring 4 or 5 guests. I know my membership is lifetime, but maybe annual ones are available? Boutins the man to speak to.

Rob,
Hyland is a members course. This was the only way I could get the owner to open the course.
I assured him I would do whatever it takes to make it a burden-less venture. We need some way to track of who is playing when. A member will be more a responsible person than just a pay to play person. This is how we would hope for it to work.
A member can bring 3 guests at a time and they must play together. The guest will pay $5. This way the member can make sure the non-members are not doing things that will jeopardize this course staying open.
If the owner sees that disc golfers are a respectable group of people than maybe it will be open to the public. He knows there are those people who do stupid things for no apparent reason. He has seen it during his festivals. So he would understand a couple of things happening a year, but if things get out of control he would have no chose but to close the course.
A membership for the rest of this year is $30 which will help us generate funds to improve the course quickly. Next year the membership fee will be $50 for the year. I lifetime membership will be $250 which is only paying for 5 years up front.
A few times a year I will have a members only party. During these parties members will drink for free. Hyland orchard does not make the beer. Pioneer brewing Co. does. They are two different companies. Although I got the owner of Pioneer playing disc golf now and he plays everyday. This is a good thing for disc golf and Pioneer.

Since most of the holes are permanent I will start to cut down more trees. Hole 8 will be getting longer. The T box will be to the left of 7's basket. Hole 10 will move to the left of 9's basket. You may have noticed some of the hole has already been cleared. It will be a long right turning shot and the basket will be in the bottom part of the parking lot field.
For those people who have played the course you know that some of the holes are tight and need some work. I would like the people who sponsored a basket for a hole to voice their opinions first on what they think will make the hole better. So next time you play the course take note of what trees should come down and anything else you think would improve that hole. Leave a note in the sugar shack and I will take a look. You could also bring something to mark the trees with, tape, ribbon, just don't paint them.
Thanks

Hyland orchard & brewery disc golf course

Post by Matt Grayum »

I'm def becoming a member next year and will be playing this course a lot more often than now (once for the charity tourney). Btw that Tourney was awesome! I think this course has the most potential out of all the courses I have played to date. If I ever have more time (a 7 month old and wife and full time job with a part time job) then I would also love to help with any course work.

Will I pay you Don? Paypal or check or what? I'm gonna pay for next year at some point.
Wish I was playing disc golf instead of posting here...
