New course green lit for Lufbery Park in Wallingford!

Enjoyed the course today. Only 13.5 miles from M-town, It looks like I will be playing there often.

Put together a few ideas for pocket scorecard fundraisers.

2nd the Lufbery Circle around a basket. (this is actually in color, for some reason the scan came out in black and white)



Team Crafty will donate proceeds to the course fund if the club is into it.

I'm glad you enjoyed the first seven and look forward to seeing you out there. The score card ideas look cool, the second one is more along the lines of our thinking as the course will be named The Flying Ace. Could you explain the concept of the pocket score card fundraiser?

We are also looking forward to any constructive views of the first seven. We are gaining more and more experience on the design side as we go. We want to ensure that the remaining holes are a challenge to all skill levels without sacrificing enjoyment for players that are just starting out.

The pocket scorecard is waterproof/reusable, it is approx. 2&5/8 X 3&7/8 in size (glossy on the image side and matte on the scorecard side). A player would use any regular pencil to record his/her score and erase the card when done. With time (approx. 15 rounds) the matte side will gloss over from the friction of the eraser. The cards can be gently sanded with a emery board or fine sandpaper (350-400 grit) to restore the matte finish.

The cards usually sell for $2-$3. In the past I have sold course cards (Panthorn,Heroes and Wick) and donated the proceeds to the course fund. If you are interested send me an image (as a jpeg) or I can put something together.

I down loaded one of the many online images and came up with this design.




I also make 4x6 cards with image/logo on one side and scorecard on the other side. Great for leagues and general play. Also waterproof/reusable. however they tend to last longer before the gloss over.

checked out the course this morning. you did a really nice job carving out the fairways! looks like a established course already. love that its only 9 min away from my house! great use of elevation too, with 1 and 5 the only really flat holes. once 6 gets some heavy traffic that hill is gonna make for some great roll aways.

my only criticism is that of the 7 holes, 6 are righty backhand hyzers (1,2,3,5,6,7). leaving #4 the only righty anny/flick shot on the course. #6 being a straight shot could be played either way...now that i'm rethinking it. maybe carving in some lefty/anhyzer routes could be possible to help balance things.

Havent' been able to check out the baskets yet, but it's great to hear that so many people are enjoying the course and live close. It's always nice to have dedicated dg-ers nearby. Hopefully your back 9 construction will go even faster with more volunteers, that side is going to be SICK. When does the back 11 go in???? Faster faster faster...

The fairway carving bug doesn't go away quickly. At Vets we're about to start construction on the back 9.

We spent Sunday roughing in the first half of 8. After a few weeks of tweaking the first 7 it feels good to be moving forward again. If the snow melts we will be there this weekend to finish the rough-in.

Played the course on my way up to Vermont to pick up my daughter at school.
Fun course, shot one down for eight holes (played hole 5 twice). Favorites were 2, 5 & 7. I do agree you will need to get few more left to right holes to get a good balance.
Whats great is there are 6 courses from the top of the merrit to the bottom all about 15 to 20 min. apart.
Lufbery, Orange, Vets, Fairfield, Cranbury and Waveny.

Still, 2 miles is pretty close (FU from 15). We can now call them, collectively, the "15 / 5" (opposed to the "Chicago 7" or some such)!

I've always thought it interesting (and convenient!) that virtually ALL of CT's courses are on a SW to NE line - along 15/95 through Hartford and continuing on 84. This does approximate the population center(s) of the state somewhat, but what I've come to realize is that dg is a "rural urban" sport by and large. There aren't TOO many courses WAY out in the sticks due probably to a lack of population base, yet there aren't TOO many courses smack in the city's middles due probably to a lack of viable land. So dg finds a "happy medium" - kind of like Goldilocks...just right!

Quick update: 2 workdays later and we have 8 roughed in and plotted the final (and by final we mean current) layout of 9.

8 will feature a moderately narrow fairway that turns right at approx. at an 80 degree angle. It is bordered on the right by trees that will prove to be thick after the foliage fills in. The left side of the fairway falls sharply off (30 to 40 feet on a steep but accessible grade). This will certainly punish any right handed fade.

The tree that was in front of the basket on 7 has been addressed giving way for a nice second shot.

If anyone is interested in checking out the progress on 8 just head right, pick up the red trail, and go up the hill. You will see a rock outcropping above you on the left (the tee for 8 is on top of the rock). Just before you get to the top of the hill you will see the log lined approach to the tee.

We were about 3/4 roughed on 8 when the snow cover forced us to pause. I plan on going out there Sat. morning to assess any damage that this winter has. inflicted. We received a couple of reports on the facebook page (wallingford disc golf) of a few post thaw rounds. Can't wait to get back to work!

Hey all,

Just a quick update, as of this afternoon 8 and 9 are ready for basket installation (should have this done by the end of the week). We spent a day last week laying out the first few holes of the back nine and it looks like we should be able to stretch out a bit. We are hoping to have permanent tee signs up by the end of the month.
We are going to be working this weekend and could use some help removing some of the trunk piles from the front 9. If anyone is interested please let us know. The town is planning on calling a newspaper or two at the end of the month to write a follow up story detailing the progress so far. We are going to make a push to get the course looking good. As always please let us know what you think and if you have any suggestions or ideas that will improve the course, we are all ears.

directions would help.... If you head right after seven and link up with the red trail and head up the hill (we had a trial liner in place but it was mysteriously dragged and left in front of seven's basket). I forgot to put it back today. Anyway, head up the hill and you will see a log lined trail on the left near the top of the incline. This will lead you to a natural rock outcropping that will serve as 8's tee box. follow the temp. trail from eight to nine (fairways are recently blown clean). We will be posting O.B. along the left side of the approach of 8 and 9 as this is the park boundary and the homeowner up on the hill is a bit nervous about people crossing onto his land. He seems to be a nice guy but has little knowledge of the sport or the (completely laid back demeanor) of it's participants.
An old rock wall is plainly visible and represents the property line. I let him know that any disc errantly thrown on his side would simply be retrieved and not played from his property.

We are happy to announce that we have finally installed the baskets for 8+9. We will be focusing on tee boxes and signs to complete the front 9 before cutting 10 11 12 .... We had to make a few changes on 8 and 9 due to a neighbor who thought we might be a little close to his property so until we post the ob markers please be mindful of his land. The property line runs along the old rock wall. If your disc runneth over please don't play it from the far side of the wall. We will be working on the course Sunday from 7ish until we run out of gas. Let us know if you are into helping out or just come down to play it's supposed to be beautiful.
