Roy,
Sounds like you are doing a great deal of work to improve the course. Personally I've never been there, hope to maybe catch a tournament sometime. My two cents if you want it, I know you're getting it from all sides, would be to play the course with the current changes for a season to see how it plays. Pinnacle was established about 5 years ago and I'm still considering changes, some more radical than others. It's quick and easy to take a tree out but forget about replacing one.
Good luck with the changes. I hope the locals appreciate the tremendous amounts of hard work you're putting into the course.

P, thanks ... yes, every design is fluid ... prior to concrete tee pads, anyway ... and, yes, they do ... much posi-feedback
K, purpose? ... the purpose of this re-design was/is to address some serious glitches , resulting in major increase in fun factor ( for most) ... an aerial view of heavily used Ball-golf layout shows 18 greens, hazards, 18 fairways, and tees - 2, or 3 or 4 per hole where appropriate ... I keep the truisms of quality golf course design in mind at all times ... fortunately, Muldoon offers several multi-tee options, not just blue & white (ala Amesbury) ... still a work in progress

Roy,
How about cutting a couple trees between the tee pad and basket on hole 15? If you leave a small opening that is nearly impossible to get through, it will make this hole a high risk/high reward for those going for the opening. What are your thoughts/plans for this hole? To me it is the only one that I think needs to be addressed...the others are great.

L R , careful selective thinning will continue on #15 and in the middle hazard on #9 ... since #10 (like 15) is obviously a "forced" hole, an alternate 10 and 11 (over and back across the wetland) is being considered & researched ... higher on the list are signs and tees ( white and gold ) and brush piles (general greenskeeping) ... see you sunday am ...

Just curious does anyone have the rough footage per hole? I see all par 3 for a 54, just curious about the distance?

blues (currently painted orange) average about 250' -a few longer : 5, 13, 14, 17...but not much, and a few shorter : 2, 4, 7, 8, 10, & 15 ... when installed, whites will average 125 -150 ... a few gold tee /pin locations will boost some holes to 300 + but still par 3s all around

muldoon continues to evolve ... after 2 sunday bag-tag sessions, playing, instead of working the layout, I was able to critique the work done so far ... in an effort to fix a forced hole ( # 10 ), I have found a nice alternate that plays over water twice ... and since #11's pin stays put, both holes are "lefty", helping the balance ...P & R is so agreeable, he's going to order 2 more discatchers, one as #10 alt, & one as #4 alt/#16 alt combo... in an effort to "bring back old #9", this basket will sit a few feet further up the hill and so will serve also as nice target from a new tee tucked up on the wooded rise btwn #s 13 & 14 - 300' + ... with slightly different tee and pin locations, this allows original holes 9, 10, & 11 to be played as alt 4, 5, & 6 ... Yes, #16's pin needs to be moved to allow alt 5 to work, in fact improving it (16) in the process... maybe in the meantime we can move it to old 9's spot ( alt 4 ) and see how it plays ... anyway, I've just laid out quite the to-do list... anyone willing and able to help this happen, please speak up ... thanks ...

a call to all members of pelham bag tag league : please put away the loppers for now !!!. After an afternoon (after rain) round today , I was very displeased to have played through such a mess of course trimming ... when a sapling is cut, IT MUST BE CUT AT GRADE... otherwise what's left is a severe safety hazard ! ! ...While the effort is appreciated, all the trimming must now be repeated and done right (cut flush to the ground) . The sharp angled cuts of 3/4"- 1" thick green shoots at 18" -24" off the ground will do serious injury to anyone careless or unlucky enough to slip (on wet underbrush for instance) and land on one... making matters worse, the cut brush was all just left as it fell, hiding much of the upright spikes, adding to the tripping hazard, and just looking like hell ...neat, out-of-the-way brush piles are easy and rewarding to create ... please, those of you who care about the future of this course, find and stop the cutter from doing more damage (this course is easy enough, for xxx sake) and have him/them fix the mess he/they made this weekend ... or, if you have the time, the tools, and a clue, please do it yourself ...thankyou, r

scorecards w/ map are in production ... a new discatcher is en route ... it will allow OLD # 9 to be playable as #4 (soon to become # 5 when #1 is "unplayable"... so #17 becomes #1, #18 becomes #2, and #2 becomes #3, etc.) Confused ? Stay tuned, as the call for improvements is answered, and the most customizable course in New England takes shape... maybe the mad loppers will continue to run rampant and as they keep liberally improving their lies, the course will resemble a horrific high desert of trees and pungi sticks... I hope not ... With careful pruning and clearing, this can become a nice tight little user-friendly layout ... w/ an interesting optional few holes and optional long tees .... please help stop the unauthorized lopping... report violators to Pelham P & R :603-635-2721

With the arrival of the new discatcher imminent, I'm looking for a few local players as work crew for few hours later next week to assist with some grunt work ( moving a few baskets , and many signs, maybe even huffing a picnic table out to that shady rise above the river behind the 9th hole, if both table & pickup are available ) ... could the Sunday league actually serve the purpose ? feedback here please w/ contact info if possible ... thanks

I finally played it... It was fun... It'll get better... Only one flukey hole... after 14 and before 16... I like the idea of making that anhyzer route the preferred shot...

Great job and thanks to any and all that made it happen. Its a real course now...

long awaited upgrades are occurring this week incl: new basket installed as #14 w/ mowed fairway and tee box ... #1 is now "provisional" , practice, tourney available only, not to be played when ball field is in use ... # 4 (now #5) basket has been moved back and up, offering options and addl. challenge... so, park in back lot behind fenced playground, and #17 is now #1, 18 is 2 and 2 is 3, etc ...with help from the convict crew, hole/tee # signs should be moved this week, and a picnic table moved out to the rise by the river behind #9 ( now 10) ... better signs , benches, and a tourney are on the horizon ... thanks for your patience and support

Roy,
I have played a few times on the latest changes and just wanted to thank you for putting it all together. Looking good out there! Are you going to be at the sunday round this weekend? I never got your email when you played a few sundays early in the summer. Here is the site with all the league stats:

Had the pleasure of playing this past Saturday and Sunday. Met Roy and played "with" him during the league play. I like the new layout a lot. The criss-crossing of holes 13/14 may present some issues, but so far, I haven't seen anything come up.

Just wanted to say thanks to Marty for taking the time to maintain a great little league, and also to thank Roy for all his work in designing/redesigning and putting up signage.

Hopefully someday we can get some cement pads in there! :)

Tom

Oh, and FYI, old hole 15 works great with tomahawk Epic shots... they land nicely in the fairway about 10 feet from the basket :)

I have been playing here occasionally. I really enjoy the layout (never played the old layout). Some challenging 3s, fun 2s, and several ace runs.

Does anything ever come out of the smelly swamp area along the fairway for 2? I lost a nice red Wraith in there. As many times as I got lucky hitting a tree and not going in there, it took a lost disc to finally learn my lesson and keep the drive straight.

What is the hot round out there? The best I have been able to get is 47. I know there must be double digits out there.

I had a chance to play the course on Saturday. Lots of branches down. Many of them are huge. I spent a decent amount of time dragging the ones that could be moved off of the fairways.

I was rewarded by finding the Wraith I lost in the stink-hole on left of 2's fairway. Sitting just where I thought it was. The noon light made it much easier to see a red disc than the late afternoon light that I lost it in.

Awesome, I was wondering what the distances were for the new holes. I'm terrible at judging distance on my own. How did you measure them out?

just a quick update on developments at muldoon ... nice tee signs in production ... plans in place to improve holes # 3, # 11, #12, # 17, and #18 ... #3 will become lefty friendly by sliding out to the right, and slightly down the swale w/ risky putt unless you're long off the tee ... old 1st basket will be alt. #11 - long, clear, w/late rising, right turn to pin, then shortish wooded downhill to existing # 12 over creek (bridge to be repositioned for easy crossing) ... to bring the public out of play (danger), #18 tee will be moved back towards #17's pin, forcing #17 to be straightened alot (so enjoy it while you can)... the work to create the new route to #12 is massive winter work, so the current blowdown will be addressed first (soon), as will the other pin moves ... matt, e- me (royaloft@gmail.com) re: coordinating upcoming work day availability... also other "muldooners"who want to help ...thanks

pelham upgrade update :

Post by Roy Doar »

pelham's muldoon park is now "dunmovin" for this year w/ recent upgrades to four holes and the installation of 18 8' 4x4's as sign posts at the current blue tees ... the first 6 tee signs w/maps are in place and after the rest are done, robe hooks (4-to-a-tee) as bag holders will follow... those who wish to "adopt-a-hole" are welcome to provide the above-mentioned hooks and/or benches or spend as much time neatly clearing brush as their time and energy allows... thankyou and look for events to occur at this handy little gem in the coming months/years ...

Pelham progress report: all 18 tee signs now installed along w/ 3 bag holders per post ... scorecard box w/ cards mounted on main info "kiosk" near 1st tee ... plan to create alternate tee for #15 to minimize conflict w/ #16 is under consideration ... benches will be a nice addition, but in the meantime, some of the poorly draining tees are suffering from lots of play ( a good problem to have ) ... raising them a bit with permeable fill ( gravel, coarse sand, crushed stone ) will help, but that is obviously not as easily done as said ... I'll contact town about sourcing a truckload to be dumped in a central location, for us who care to move to the needy locations ... speaking of needy, the idea of the new layout's 1st official event being an " Ice Bowl " has been floated ... more on this soon, if so ...
p.s. thanks Steve, for the kind words ! Merry Christmas to you, ,Joy, and the young men ...
in fact, A joyous Holiday, to all ... see you next year !
