Re: Gardner MA 1st proposed location logistics underway
I'm hurt you didn't recognize me, Rick. I was the there, Titan was there and Dave from the Ale House (and his family) gave a nice rundown on all disc golf's great attributes. It seemed very well received.
Disc golf also turned up on the survey done by the city as a desireable activity for the city.
Seemed like a very good first step for getting approval for a course in the city.

Don't know yet. Didn't see Jeff or Titan and I didn't see anything there about disc golf courses....I don't even know if it was the right time or place...so I'm totally mystified.

I thought maybe I just did not see you but you must have been in the wrong place. 6pm at the Gardner Library, in the meeting room to the right as you enter the front doors.
The Mayor led the meeting with discussions of plans for the city's playground improvements and then there was a relatively lengthy discussion of disc golf, as I said, led by Dave and his family.

If I haven't seen you in a while I wouldn't remember. But I'm glad the meeting went well for you guys.
Next time can we work out a way to meet up beforehand so there's no confusion?

Re: Gardner MA 1st proposed location logistics underway
There was an article in the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, which had some quotes from Dave. It all seemed rather positive.
Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that disc getting bigger?". Then it hits me.

2nd email sent...just don't want the communication to go dead..as it has...we will get to the bottom of this..I know many Gardner area DG'ers have inquired...towns are a pain in the junk to work with sometimes...esp when they have nothing to do..and we change that

Re: Gardner MA 1st proposed location logistics underway
ok got an update finally
when I was down that way yesterday..I noticed the proposed site that was waiting for timberharvest is now in the process of being timber harvested
they were working the weekend as well....so they seem to be focused on this now
the parking area is now much bigger and the woods are looking super prime for DG now
I will send out email monday or call down to PTB to re-discuss the agreement we had
It has been a few years now...and once I connect back with them and confirm they are still interested in the DG course..
we will need to re mobilize and gather troops for this...
my current life situation prevents me from giving the attention I had back when this started but I know many people wanted to help..
so I would like to round up any soldiers that are out there and get this going in the right direction
the land is sweeet and this will be awesome
discuss and TY

Re: Gardner MA 1st proposed location logistics underway
I now know what the break down in communication was..
they have a new community dev manager in Gardner as Mr. Hubbard is no longer there
The new manager is just as open to the DG course..
He wanted to meet this week but I am unavailable on the day he wanted but invited me down next week...
I have scheduled a meeting mid next week at Town Hall to rediscuss this adventure..
soooo stay tuned...looks great
I bet Disc Golf come to this site real sooooooooon
again any interested parties please contact me via post/pm/email

Re: Gardner MA 1st proposed location logistics underway
A course even closer to my house than Royalston! I will help when I can
yes..lol
this is on RT140...will serve some cool towns
actually across from bike path area on RT140
the main obstacle here is/will be funding for baskets..
unlike royalston where they had funding and the woods needed more work
this site will not need as much cutting as RF&G as the woods are now clear and open with just small growth standing growth that needs to remain...
the design here will be finding an 18 hole loop connecting to parking area...using what is out there now..and trying our best to find a design that doesn't need to have much cutting
the woods looked fairly clean..and this site host a stream..some flat and small rolling terrain...
there are some old paths/cart roads/powerlines etc etc and hope to include into design
once we get past OK you can 100% put a course here...
we will move to design phase in spring..
once we get a OK that design is 100% fine with all parties that need to OK..
we will then start the logistical process of funding, community awareness, and gathering manpower
I hope to use many Gardner local connections and as much community involvement as possible...including local orgs, business, gov and other volunteer programs
it will be in a perfect spot on this quest to fill deadzones and lay a DG course grid throughout the greater RT2 region
I look forward to seeing people from Gardner step up and all crush this...I have some family in that area that are interested in helping as well...
As my main energy is now looking westward towards wendell and beyond...but I will help align everything here and get this going

Re: Gardner MA 1st proposed location logistics underway
serious updates from yesterdays meeting at the Town Hall with various department heads.
I will need some time to gather the info and put it all into a structured post
great news though!!!! Gardner has allotted a HUGE chunk of land to the cultivation of a DG course.....and the BUZZ and VIBE is outstanding!
stay tuned....now is the time to come forward if you desire to help..we have many task that need delegation to get completed

If I can pull it off, I'll go for a walkabout with you, Titan.
Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that disc getting bigger?". Then it hits me.

TY Paul
The first thing we need is a solid person to map what we design to be overlaid onto a map via software
That is critical....
cupcake says he has a sweet app...so someone close to this project needs to have the know how to do this...
I would like to delegate task to people who have the skillz to crush it...
design
mapping of design
walk through approval
fundraising
volunteer recruiting
local exposure
that is the first list of task

Re: Gardner MA 1st proposed location logistics underway
cool
after walking it before/after timber cut...
There is a cart road the disects the land in a sense...the parking area is eastablished already to an extent...
It is fairly obv where to start finish..so hole 1&18 need to be cultivated in those areas...and the rest is really finding the best from the land and connecting it all...it is thin woods out there and I don't wanna cut almost anything mature for a few reasons..but mainly I am confindent we can create a great product w/o
it also makes sense and I think it will be 9/9 on each side of cart road coming back near parking area..or maybe 12/6 something like that
anyways after I speak with Dave R I will post a date
TY for the interest
