Stopped by the park today to check on the progress of the timber harvest. It has been delayed several times now. I finally see some progress being made on the disc golf side of the property, but still much work to be done. Sharing a couple of pics of potential holes. Lost a disc on one of them today. Stupid of me to throw a pale orange trak with all the leaves on the ground. It's somewhere off the edge of the fairway.

Timber harvest almost done (town gave them an extension to finish up).
Getting ready to put some final design changes in place.
Almost time to begin installation. :)

Hey Mike, its been about 6 weeks since the last post. Whats the news? I cant wait for this course to be done as it will be the closest course to me :D

I drove by during a weekday and saw a bunch of guys cutting up wood, etc. First time Ive actually seen stuff going on.

If I go and take a walk around, will I see where the holes are going to be yet?

The park is still closed while they complete the timber harvest. The town granted an extension to the person doing the timber harvest. I was originally scheduled to install the course one year ago.

All the trees were cut, but we are still waiting for the trees to be removed. That's probably what you saw. Nothing visible yet to see where the course is located. Hopefully we can get in there soon and start the installation.

I've been doing a lot of site walking and test throwing to finalize the layout. I plan on stopping by tomorrow to see if we can start installing yet.

Walked the course again today to check on status of timber harvest and try and finalize the layout. Unfortunately I still see lot's of timber on the ground that needs to be picked up before we can start installing. Here's the link to the map of the latest layout.

Damn, thats too bad. If its not too much trouble, could you add in the picture what hole would be what, the tee pad, etc? Im going to walk the course this week sometime and it would be cool to bring that picture and see what your seeing. Also, whats the red lines?

Might be to early to tell but are there going to be any par 4's?

Thanks again, Mike

If you are going to walk it. It should be with me because the park is closed and no one is supposed to access the property while the timber harvest is going on. They let me on to do some design work.

Oh, oops :D. I've walked it a couple times with my dog just to check out the area. I think both days were a Sunday and no work was going on.

yeah, it's mostly a safety/liability situation. Cutting is probably done now, but lots of trees still down on the ground. PM me if you want to meet me to walk the site.

Add tees and baskets to the map. If you click on the icons, the name will tell you which number it is.

Town wants to start the installation beginning of August. Just have to finalize the layout. Here's a pic of the latest with hole numbers.

Very excited about this! Another course to the area is a great thing! I was curious about the cost of installation of the course, I was trying to have an intelligent discussion with someone on the benefits of a disc golf course to which they replied its a waste of tax payers money and that money should be spent on education. It's my understanding that there is a lot of individual volunteer work and fundraising (generally) that goes into building a disc golf course. Thanks, just looking for a little insight on this project.

$1,500 grant from NEFA and town put in $10,000. Drop in the bucket for a town and relatively inexpensive compared to many other projects the town could have funded. It went to a vote on the town budget and was approved. It had no impact on the mil rate or people's eventual taxes. Some people don't understand the value of parks and recreation and preserving open space and are opposed to any of these kinds of projects. It's hard to fight ignorance.

Thank you Mike for the response. I fully agree that people will argue just to argue, the person I was "debating" with made it sound like their taxes were going to skyrocket and the kids would have a poor education from the money being used for this project. This is great for the town and people of surrounding towns. Mind if I share these #'s?

You can share the numbers, but please refrain from quoting me or using my name. I don't want to get dragged into any debates. I had enough of that when we first introduced the idea for the project to the town.
