I apologize, I have decided to cancel the Waveny Open for this year.
This decision is due to family and personal obligations.
I will continue to work on the course and the expansion to 18 holes.
Thanks for understanding.

Sorry to hear that Tim, but I can understand how personal obligations come before disc golf.

I'm sure the Wave will rise again. Hope all is well Tim...
I whacked the weeds on the 6th fairway today and cleared the red tee. Found a red stake in the woods , could not pound it in so left it under a pile of freshly cut brush just in front and to the right of the tee.
More of 6 fairway could be wacked, but at least now the fairway has a landing zone if you hit an early tree but stay in the fairway.
Also opened the path to 9 tee that had become overgrown with nasty pricker bushes.

the course is in pretty good shape and as usual, it's like playing in your backyard.....nice alternate long tee on 8...

:D Matt, thanks for working on hole #6, I just purchased a new weed cutter to tackle that area. I hope to get out on the course soon to work on the weeds.
I hope to meet with the new Park & Rec. commissioner in Sept. thats when they will start the meetings again.

Was out on the course the past two days and here is my report...
All of the baskets are fine. Many tree limbs all over the course. I moved a big branch on hole one so you can now see the basket. Cut up the branches on holes 6, 7 & 12. The branch on 12 is almost gone. On hole #6 I worked on the weeds but you will have to use the white tee since there is a tree that is blocking the gap in front of the blue tee.
It felt good to be back out on the course and back at full strength.

:D This past Wednesday I made a presentation to the New Canaan Park & Recreation Commission to add six holes to the Waveny Park course.
The commission agreed to look at the sights that were suggested for expansion. The meeting seemed positive and there will be further discussion at the next Park & Rec. meeting in November.
I wish this had happened sooner but the Park & Rec. commission has gone through a few member changes.
I'll keep everyone informed as things happen.

:D The Wave escaped with little damage, lots of limbs down but nothing major.
:? The tough part is that the Hands off Waveny group is making some Waves (get it) about expanding the course. This might take more time than I thought.
Stay the course.

:) Big THANKS to the person that cleared off all of the white tees. It was also nice to see people using the course on Sunday.

I will update everyone on the course expansion later this week and what needs to be done.

:D There will be a work day next Sunday the 11th. The goal is to clean up the course and then look at where new holes can go. I have many ideas along with how to tweak current holes. My goal this winter is to have any possible new holes roughed out and any changes made so when I show the Park & Rec Commission the course in the spring they can just sign off on it.

 Was out on the course today raking tees, replacing tee markers and clearing branches from fairways. All tees are clear and marked except for red tees on holes #9 & #12. I need to get some more paint before I can replace those markers.

WORK DAY THIS SUNDAY the 11th...I'm going to be out on the course around 10am, starting on hole #12 and then going to #10. The goal is to cut up some of the larger branches that fell and move them away. Also try and get a few hangers near the basket on #10. After that if I have time I will continue to scout a new hole that would be after the current hole #12.
Let me know if anyone wants to help.

Thanks to Harry of Rowayton for all his clean up efforts.

:!: Worked for 3 hours today on holes 12, 11 & 10. These holes have never looked so good. I will continue to clean up the course this winter and will post when I intend to be out working on the course. The winter is a great time to get things done. I also want to rough out new holes so we can play them and get feed back from people.

From the PDGA standards

HOLE COUNT:
Most courses are either 9 or 18 holes. There are several with 12, 24 or 27 holes. Tradition appears to dictate that the number of holes be divisible by 3. It's better to install a well designed, dual tee 12-hole course than it is to install a cramped, less safe 18-hole course on the same piece of land.

Or a 12-holer with 3 sets of tees (so, when playing all possibilities, you end up with 36 holes, i.e. 18x2 = 12x3)!

8-) The wave will be a course that will evolve over time. The next changes will be to holes #3, #4 & #8... And then I hope to get three holes roughed out before spring to complete a loop to hole #1. I hope to start work 2/19.

After playing a round I worked on hole #1 tees.
White tee- removed roots, installed a log in front of the tee to help level it and retain the soil on the tee.
Blue tee - made it a little wider and started to level it out by digging out the back of the tee and pulling it forward.

:D I worked on some tees today...finished #1 blue...cleaned up #2 white and blue tees...built up #4 white/blue tee...removed roots on #6 blue tee...removed roots on #12 red tee...replaced all missing red, white & blue tee markers.

I will continue to work on all tees to get them root & rock free.

I'm working on a date for the Waveny Open. It looks like July or September.

It is that time of year where the weeds grow and grow and grow. I started the chore of cutting down the the spring growth. Cleaned up 12, 9 and started work on 10. The goal is to finish 10 and move to 6 & 7...So I will be out working the next few days when I can and for a longer period of time on Sunday.
I have sent an email to the New Canaan Tree Warden to clean up a few trees and large damaged branches. So that is the Waveney update for now.

Worked on hole #7 tee area, whacked weeds, cleared roots from white and blue tees this should make Matt J. happy. I then moved on to hole #6, worked around the green and started to clear the area to the left of the tight gap so if a right handed player hyzers to the left is a fairer upshot.
I hope to finish up hole #6 this Sunday.

:D It was good to get some work done on the course today...Worked on cutting down the weeds on hole #1. I noticed I need to get a pole saw out to clean up the branches that overhang the fairway. Three groups were out on the course while I was working...good to see. I will try and get out Sunday to work on hole #6.
