I'm guessing the course got close to a foot. Were you still planning on going out this afternoon, Luke? I don't think I can make it today, unless you let me know the secret to your wife letting you play golf on your anniversary? If there's a crew heading out tomorrow to shovel, I can go, or just wait until Sunday.

Unfortunately, I am not going to be able to make it out there this afternoon. I got into work 3 hours late today. I was really hoping this one would be a bust but it turned out way worse so that is super.

If any of you guys planning on playing this weekend could do a few tees that would be awesome! I'm playing Borderland tourney tomorrow so it is unlikely I'll be able to spend another weekend day with a disc golf related outing (soooo.. no Bill, I have not figured out how to convince my wife either)

BIG tournament weekend at Devens coming up!!! Course will be completely closed on Saturday and pretty busy on Sunday . We suggest that you visit Coggshall Park in Fitchburg for casual play.

-------------------------------------------

SATURDAY - Our annual (SOLD OUT!) NEFA Points Event - Still time to get on the waitlist: www.tinyurl.com/hillyeah2013

-------------------------------------------

SUNDAY - New Skins Qualifier event:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10853&start=0

Quick gist of the Sunday skins event:

Qualifier - Sunday - April 7th at Devens (others being held around New England this weekend)
Finals at MAPLE HILL May 19th @ 9:00AM

Two divisions:
Pro $50
Am $20

Payment made day off. Just let me know that you want to play and I will put you on the list. Walk ins welcome too.

Payout will be 100% (minus $2 per player in AM division to cover a righteous trophy for the winner)
AM's will end up playing funny money. (if 23 people try to qualify across all 5 regions, then the skins in the finals at Maple will be worth $23 each)
Pro's play for cash. (add up the entries and divide by 18 and thats how much each skin will be worth)

Here's how the qualifiers work.
You play the first round, by division (am or pro) regular stroke play.
-the top five finishers from the morning round advance to the second round of skins play.
Second round skins play in a 5some.
-The TWO players finishing with the most skins qualify for the finals at Maple Hill. In the event of a tie, the TD picks a one throw CTP for to break tie's.

Yes, donation box in. Thanks to Luke and Rob for assisting and Eric Spring (Newton Hill) for construction.

We also have security watching in case anyone attempts anything (check above the red dot in the first image and close up in the next). Very well trained.

Also thanks to Andy Duquette and crew for first donation. Course expansion coming soon I hope.

I heard that the post is electric and you'll get electrocuted if you try to pull it out of the ground.

lets do it! 18 more holes sounds good to me.

Also, mini work day? I know alot of tourneys are coming up but maybe on some sunday? Few extra steps on 16 and fixing the rope would be nice to get done this spring. Think we just need to buy the stakes unless someone has a different idea.

**** Call for Volunteers ****

All the recent use at Devens has clearly begun to wear out the stairs on 9 and 16. They need replacement. We are looking for a few volunteers to help. Josh + 3 will be there this Monday (5/6) at 5pm. If we get some more hands we can bang this out quickly. I have arranged for Rob to have materials on hand ready to go. We need a few more bodies. Who is in?

Design is 4' landscape timber drilled to place rebar inside the timber (no exposed re-bar). Need people/tools to set stair (shovel) and sink re-bar (sledge). I also want to place flat stone in front of the timber like we had on 9, so we may need a wheelbarrow to move some stone to 16.

Thanks to all our volunteers. Sorry for the short notice, but what I saw this week is that this cannot wait any longer.

A hawk tried to kill me today. No joke. Ned is a witness. I was walking from 16 to 17 tee, and a giant branch falls toward me. Out of the corner of my eye i see a hawk jumping off the branch as its falling. So i lunged forward a little and the branch just grazes my foot, (im fine). Pretty crazy. Looking back i dont think i intentionally lunged, like my body just did it. Ned said it looked like it was going to hit me just before i lunged.

I dont want to throw around wild accusations but its possible that the hawk knew that branch would break and that I was underneath it. So we may have a killer hawk on our hands.

ya somethin. Maybe the hawks are organizing and trying to pick off the easy targets first. I like to think the best of people and hawks but its possible.

Next year's Team Devens sweatshirts should probably have the Devens Hawk on them. He's more badass than a honey badger.

Yup you've got some bad a$$ hawks patroling your course. Last fall while practicing prior to the ace race, I watched one of them swoop down out of the trees and attack my disc. It stood right on it clawing at it with it's feet. Crazy. I think Rob was with me and witnessed it.

Maybe its the hilliness that they like soo much (and the chipmunks). I bet the hills gives them a bigger advantage when hunting.

If you are playing golf this weekend, drop by the plentiful fields to watch some HS Ultimate. If you are around on Saturday at 6, you can see a special treat. Team USA takes on Boston Ironside in a high intensity match up. Best ultimate in the WORLD.

Does it go all day Mike? I have the morning free and was tempted to watch my 1st ultimate game, sandwiched around some disc golf of course.
