We'll catch up in a couple weeks Alan. I'm headed to Switzerland(!) today until the 3rd. I'm glad you got a replacement. Perhaps your favorite TeeBird will resurface soon.
I got to use the wheelie-measuring-thing on Wed so now there are distances from the temp tees posted on DGCR (along with pictures).
http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=3241
They repainted the temp tees and I'm hoping to correct their angles on #3 and 5 along with moving the box back a bit on #9 before they put the permanent boxes in.
Thanks to everyone for checking out the course and everyone else continuing to play it. We're far from done so this little park is only going to get more DG-friendly!

Quick NINE at Lunch time
Excellent Day for a quick nine.... Really played it well for a change. Hitting dueces on holes 4 and 9 but how I got a 4 on the shortest hole six is a matter of thorns, had to take an unplayable lie. Still the good 26 is something I will take everytime. Get out there folks and support the course, bring a trash bag.....

I haven't got up there in weeks. I'm dying to play again. Nice dueces Ed. I can't seem to get one on 9. I got a 5 on #3
a little while back but still pulled out a 27
.
Glad you're getting some chances to play the course and encouraging others. I hope to have some more course news soon.

Amazing
Justin:
I heard about the course yesterday and the NEFA discussion board today - sorry I am late to the party.
I want to echo some of the sentiments already posted: a truly remarkable effort and accomplishment in getting the course under way so quickly - as a disc golfer without a course closer than 45 minutes + each way, I greatly appreciate what you've done. I'll hit you up on PM, but I'd love to help in any way I can from here on out.
All Simonds Park area disc golfers:
I plan to hit Simonds Park twice a week before work around 6:30-7:00am and would like to get a group going in either formally or informally. Please let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks a lot.

Ed, It was good to meet you and your brother today. Definitely enjoyed the course. Lots of fun holes. Played like it had been there for a while for the most part. It does need something to mark the tees on holes 1 & 2. Found the others with some strolling around. I think it will be great exposure for the sport. Lots of people watching trying to figure it out.

Thanks Ed and Andy (I sent Ed a personal note which I'll spare everyone here from). I haven't been up there in 3 weeks or so but since there were just white spray marks those must have worn off. There was a little orange flag at each tee. Hopefully those are still there.
I hope to have a teebox update very soon. We're working on approval for signs right now and I'm trying to nail down a date for the brush clearing everyone is dying for.
I'll be up there tomorrow night. If anyone's interested just shoot me a PM.

Simonds getting there
Played a few rounds at lunch today. Holes 6 and 8 have been cleaned up nicely - all the thick weeds and thorns have been removed. Someone spraypainted around the tee boxes which will be helpful to to players not familiar with the course. There's a post next to the first tee box with a small case on top, presumably for the course layout. Overall, things are moving along nicely.
On a side note, I managed to lose a white star eagle (it says Chachi). Must have fallen out of my bag because I didn't lose it throwing. If anyone finds it please shoot me a PM. Thanks a lot.

We stopped by the course on Sat. on the way through Burlington just to give it a quick walk-thru. It definitely has potential and makes for a great quick DG fix.
I know the course is in its infancy, but here are some comments, concerns, and suggestions.
1. Need orange flags, stakes, rocks or some permanent marker to mark tee pads. Spray paint on the leaves is good until the wind blows or someone tees off and scuffs the leaves. We did not find tee 2.
2. Baskets are installed about 6 inches too deep (low).
3. During baseball season, hole 1 is unplayable since it is next to the diamond. There were tons of kids running around in that area.
4. Assuming that tee 2 is near the road at the traffic light, hole 2 is risky to play since there were many cars parked along the driveway on the left of the fairway. This is probably not a problem during the day, tho.
5. Hole 2 is also risky with the busy road to the right. There are trees lining the fairway, but an unfortunate griplock or a greasy disc may land you in a windshield on 3A.
Overall, it has got potential. The place will clean up nicely and be a fun course for newbies and the lunchtime crowd. A few holes looked pretty fun too. Wish I had my discs to give them a try!
There is definitely some interest in these weird-looking metal cages. Here's a girl throwing a ball into the basket on hole 2!

Just got back from a lunch-9 at Burlington. This was the 1st time in maybe 6 weeks that I've played there but I'm thrilled with how holes 6 and 8 now look (they're legit holes now!). It was crazy to see how everything has grown in. Shows how long its been for me.
To all of those who want an additional challenge (or those who are afraid of grip-locking), I thought of an alternate hole 1... and should only be played when the park/ballfield is empty.
I usually park up at the playground, start on hole 3, and end on hole 2. That means I have that long walk from 9 to 1. Next to the skatepark after hole 9 is a stone stairway. At the top of the stairway there is a large tree. I started between the top of the stairway and the tree, and played to hole 1 as if it was hole 1. This lets you drive off of a 15' hill down to the open ballfield. To make it interesting, I considered the parking lot at the top of right field OB, as well as the baseball infield (dirt) OB. Then I considered the large tree cluster at the far corner of the parking lot a Mando-Right (you must throw to the right) and the tower light to the left of the batting cage a Mando-Left (must throw to the left of it). This means that these Mando's will spit you right into the original fairway of hole 1, and it can be completed as such.
The result was a ~600' par 3 that was great fun to play. Get to rip a drive off of a high hill to an open field, have Mando's to navigate, and a nice uphill dogleg left at the end.
I know, I know, I know... it's not the course or how the course is designed to play. But I was there at 12:15 in the afternoon and there wasn't a body around. Most of the times I throw from this area on the way to hole 1 anyways if no one is playing baseball so I just decided to throw and play up to the basket. I wouldn't recommend this hole if kids are around, or if the parks crew is there. But it is real sweeeeeet.

That was in the original design with a basket on the corner/hill far enough away from the first base/foul line and would end the course where it began...you know like a most courses
If I'm up there when baseball's over I fully intend to try that route out. So what if it's not the official course Alan? Isn't this game supposed to be fun? I don't think anyone should give anyone crap for having fun. I'd like to try tee #3 to #5's basket.
I haven't been up there either (planning to go Wed night) since the clearing and I'm hoping to see some great things.
Signs and tees are coming. I just don't have a date for those yet and I fear we're at the back of the line now until baseball and soccer are over.

I like throwing from the dirt or pavement between the trees which is 10-20' closer to the hill further away from the skatepark.
You know what? I say if there are Parks guys but no kids then go for it. They honestly love us and if we showed that we can handle using that area only when not in use by baseball it might win us the opportunity to put a hole there or move one of the holes during the non-baseball season. Crap, I've now revealed one of my secret plans!

Not sure if there is a lost and found thread yet for this course, but my friend Dan Swartz lost a surge on hole 6 tonight, too dark to really play anyway. It has a chicken on it (virginia open print) and his name and number on the back. If you could PM me or call him about it if found, it would be great.

Latest News:
Boards were planted for all the tee boxes between yesterday and today. These stick up from the ground a bit and crushed stone is being ordered to be placed behind. Yes, it currently looks silly with all these white 4x1's everywhere but this is a million times better than the spraypaint which was only supposed to be there for a week or so.
If you have not seen it yet, the thinning on #6 is spectacular (I "helped" a bit down the right side last night...in the rain). The tee has been backed up. Not as far as I was hoping but it's certainly an improvement and is certainly still a LHBH ace run. #8 is still tight but there certainly is a well-defined fairway now. I trimmed a bunch on the left and right leading to the green to help. The low-hanging branches at the corner of 8 will be trimmed "soon" so no promises. I got what I could with a tree trimmer last night (Did I mention the rain?) by the drop-off on #5 but there's lots more to do there. There's actually half a chance to reach the green for a birdie now. Most of what I clipped I didn't clear out of the fairway so if you feel inclined to toss things to the right I certainly will appreciate it.
At the tee of #9 PLEASE turn 90 degrees to the right and try playing from the orange flags. I did a ton of thinning there as well and made a new potential tee area which I'd love feedback on before we get the stone and/or the local punks steal my mini orange flags. This will change the hole to being a quicker uphill grade and will favor a straight shot possibly with a bit of fade to the right. Should be the same 193' shot.
Overall I'm happy with the placement of the tee boxes. Each is closer to the exact place I wanted them than some of the baskets were. I can't imagine it being an issue to move #9's tee if I get a consensus quickly.
Thank you for playing in Simonds park.

I got in a quick lunch-9 yesterday and I tried my proposed 600'+ longer version of #1 which was sweet. Also I tried the alternate #9. I think either teebox could work. If the alterate #9 box is made, it may benefit to move it up a few feet just so those trees around the tee box don't swallow up half of the drives. Also I tried playing 9 from the regular tee box but shot 30' behind it. It makes it a whole new hole because you don't have the convenience of aiming up the fairway anymore.

WOW, nice shooting, Ed!! You're playing way too well now that you're healthy.
Aren’t you overdue for another injury?

Brian, Ed M, & I played a few rounds on Thursday evening. The parking was crazy as there were 2 baseball games going on but there was no problems with kids on hole one.
I had back-to-back best rounds of my life.
2-3-3-2-2-3-4-3-3-25
3-3-2-3-4-2-2-3-3-25
3-3-3-3-3-5-4-3-4-31
Thanks to Brian and Ed for coming out, continuing to play at Simonds, being so encouraging while I was having such a great performance, and trying out the alt tee on #9.
The current #9 is actually growing on me but I still feel like there's no LHBH or RHFH line at all. Please checkout the flags to the right of 9's tee. I'm really leaning towards making that the final location.
Thanks for your comments Alan.
