:D  Yesterday was SUPER TUESDAY :P :D

The parks dept came through BIG TIME!!!! In the early hours of Tuesday, worker bees visited The Wave and went nuts. I was shocked to see trees…on the ground. What a surprise b/c I worked and played Monday and nothing had been cut. The appropriate trees were removed in all areas except one (tee for #8).

I called Tim, who has been very sick the past few days, to tell him the good news. We are going to try to get the last 3 baskets in the ground today. That will give us 8 holes (we’re waiting for 3 trees to fall so #8 tee will be reasonable).

One great thing (which will help us get permanent) is that the cleared areas are not noticeable for the standard hiker. The area still looks pristinely wooded (NO our fairways are not fluky, they are legit). Up close it’s evident that not all trees were cut that low. In fact several stick up a foot or two. Overall that’s okay b/c the course is brand new. If we become permanent, then we’ll grind ‘em down.

Want good disc golf karma :?:
Help build a course :!:

I hope people can come through and help out with the next phase. Tim is out next week, but I don’t see why we can’t have a get together before he leaves. Thursday works for me, 5:00?

Really, if we had 3-4 people we could move a lot of the trees in no time. Since the baskets will be in the ground on Wednesday, we could play when we’re done!! Then if we have interest, maybe we could go again on Saturday (before The Jam). It’d be good to get a little work in ASAP b/c after this weekend I’m busy with the MSDGC and travel for work.

Can’t believe that this may actually happen…in August! 8-)

Regarding the stinging bees on #1, #4, and #9.

We haven't been stung since the onslaught several weeks ago. It's possible the bees have moved on since we disturbed their habitat. More likely encounters have been avoided since we walk around those areas.

Not sure if any hives were removed by the Parks Dept. Tim, can you ask John?

Either way, this shouldn't affect our working and playing. These areas are easily avoidable and I'll repeatedly point them out.

It's possible I could get out there as early as 4ish, but I have Venom Testing :!: that is supposed to run from 1-4pm. This should determine if in fact I'm allergic to insect venom!

Bill, if you can't stick around that late, feel free to go by and check it out...you know your way around by now. Plus we have next tee signs up!

15 minutes down The Merritt Parkway (Rte 15) to exit 37. Left at the light, left into the park. the course is on the far side on the park (across the street from the dog park and paddle tennis courts).

Park at the Pool/Dog park parking lot on the west side of Waveny Park off Lapham Road. Hole 1 is across Lapham Road from that parking lot (you should be able to see the entrance). Hole 9 is accessed by walking south from the parking lot, under the paddle courts, under the dog park, and then crossing over the road about 350 feet south of the lot. There is a break in the rock wall for both entrances.

I can get there in 10 minutes! Above are the directions posted a while back. The entire 9 holes are on the other side of Lapham Road, that is across the road the dog park, paddle courts, and pool are located.

Sounds good! I'll add it to the under 1 hour drive list of courses.

Adam, I will email John Howe tonight After we put up a few baskets!
John emailed me and asked if they missed any trees and for us to get back to him on that. So, lets put together a list tonight and I'll send it to John. Trees, Bees and Stumps.
It will be so nice to get outside!

I'm going to try to make it out there as early as possible (hopefully <4), but unfortunately I have to leave at 5:30. If you get lost call 8452499956

Good news is that the much better feeling Tim will be out there starting ~5:30 for those that are left.

Anyone going to be around Saturday morning?

Scott, I left your Surge in the basket on Hole 1. Did you get it?

Yesterday the last basket went up and a couple crucial trees were removed. Course is very playable now!

Course records sits at -3 (for 8 holes), includes bogey on 6.

The word from the Parks Dept is that they will go back and cut the trees opening the tee for 8 (this is huge!) and lower/grind the stumps. :P

Tomorrow is going to beautiful! 80 degrees and no humidity.
Good day to work and play.

I'll be out there from 9am to noonish. Come on by...meet at Hole 1 (enter woods near Lapham Road entrance to pool/dog park, turn right on trail).

Don't forget work clothes - long pants, workgloves might be a good idea.

Anyone else attending?

Rushed back to The Wave for a quick round before heading out for the MSDGC. Good news: the town cut our trees for Tee on 8! I think they lowered some stumps too.

Course is a lot of fun. Need to remove debris and pole-saw some limbs, then we're GOOD to GO. Oh, and we should have 10 holes not 9 :P

The Town of New Canaan did cut the gap for 8, cut up the bigger logs and cut down the stumps. So, the course is good to go with some clean up and tee work ahead of us. I'm going to try and get 7,s basket up today and a little clean up done.

The WAVE has 9 baskets in. Mickey and I put in a basket on 7 and cleared a little on holes 8 & 9.
Scott, let us know when you might play and maybe one us can show you around. I'll try to get with Adam and scan a map that we can post here.

Tim and I put a few hours in this morning clearing trees and building tees. This course is really coming along. Not only is it already very playable, but now the tees are shaping up. I think almost every hole is FAIR, FUN, and unique.

We are thinking about having league rounds on Thursday b/c Tuesday is already Kisco and Wednesday is Cranbury. In as little as 2 weeks we think the trees will be moved, the tees ready, the bees removed, and final preparations complete.

We'd like to have dg-ers start playing the course before we open it to "the public". This way we can get some critique from experienced players and make adjustments before the press release to New Canaan newspapers.

Help us out by playing the course! We should be able to post a map soon.

We are getting sooooo close.

Greg can we use your basket for the 2nd field hole? Then we'll have 10.

All but one of the bee hives have been removed. Turns out that if you disrupt the hive, the bees will pick-up and move on.

Yesterday Tim and I did some serious pole-sawing. Gap on new 9 is money! And so are the fairways for 6 and 10.

Basically all that is left are levelling a few tee pads. Tim mentioned having an opening kick off type event on Sunday or maybe Monday - Labor Day. What else is going on then? No work required! Just play and provide comments. Drinks sponsored by Tim. Who's in?

Any chance of playing with Billy and me today around 3:00?

Haven't seen the course in a few weeks... can't wait!

Yep, I can be out there then. I'll probably go a little earlier to do some work, call my cell when you get in 8452499956.

Looking forward to it.

Hey Gregg, any way you can come out today (blow off Kisco) or tomorrow? We'll both be there today and tomorrow afternoon starting ~4-6:30. I'm tentative for Thursday.

You know the course now and you could play on your own. But it would be great to get that basket our there ASAP. Those 2 field holes are turning out to be quite the challenging fun risk/reward shots...and great compliments to the rest of the course.

Are you around on Sunday if we try to have a get together?
S sjfoop

Post by S sjfoop »

Sunday looks doable. Tomorrow I won't be able to make it. If I find that Kisco's entire "league" will consist of me, I can ditch it and come up. Or perhaps you can join us in Kisco and grab the basket out of my car?????

Better yet, why don't you bring anyone that shows up at Kisco today to Waveny Park. Don't people want to play a new course?

Adam & I worked on the tees of hole six. Both the white and blue tees are good to go!
Blues will be the long tees and white the short.
Wed. We hope to finish up six and create a path to hole 7. We will continue to work on tees and hope to post a map and score card soon.
We also had our first walk-on players but I will let Adam expand on this!

Not much to say except that Bill from New Canaan and Kevin from Wilton enjoyed the course, found some lost plastic, and seemed interested in participating in the future. Hopefully they'll continue to come out.

I think they voted Sunday instead of Thursday for league.

A league threadwas started, it'll begin after Labor Day. Be sure to post your opinions. I think Sundays will probably end up winning, which could be a nice change for the area.

Billy and I played a round with Adam yesterday and the course is starting to come together nicely.

Tim and Adam have been working their Butts off and all their effort really shows.

What the course needs now is a lot of play. The more foot traffic... the better the fairway will look.
