Titan and I laid the bricks on 13's tee pad yesterday. I couldn't believe how many groups came through saying they were there for the first time. It's good to see so many out-of-towners coming through to play (what some are saying) "the best free course in New England".

And it's only getting better!!!

Planning on making my first foray into Tully tomorrow, wondering if I should print a map or bring a bunch of floating discs?

Shouldn't need any floaters. Just watch the wind sometimes it is unpredictable. Course is pretty easy to navigate. Hole 1 starts 200 feet to right of dam building, hole 9 now throws from the top left of the rip rap, hole 10 is across the bridge and thru the yellow gate, and hole 14 is back across the street.

Have fun a good easy course.

Glad I can say that everytime I played Tully someone broke a basket. Good karma just surrounds me like fat kids around cake.

RHobbs wrote:Strange how "improving habitat" looks like wholesale clear-cutting. And the piles of bark mulch are also a nice touch. NOT.
God help you if you lose a disc in all that slash they left lying on the ground. Some of that stuff would stop a tank.
The birds and bees and such may like the changes but I don't. There's no shade on 6, 7, and 8 and all that slash is UGLY. It'll take a good ten years or so for it all to grow in and look natural again.
And a personal beef: As a lefty, 9 is a nightmare. I find it almost impossible to stay out of the spillway. 10 is worse because the embankments on the sides of the ramp are, in my opinion, dangerous if your throw lands anywhere to the side of the ramp. Last time I played that hole I nearly sprained an ankle getting my disc back. Twice. Throw straight, you say? OK, but I'm still fairly new and God knows I want to throw straight but it doesn't always happen. A bad throw should cost you points- but not blood.
1,2,3,4, and 5 are all right, and 6 was more interesting when the woods were still there.
Don't get me wrong, I'd rather see a course there than not- but the recent changes- which I acknowledge weren't made by the people who put the course there- don't exactly make me want to go back.

Just about everything he said..was/is TRUE...I never found this thread till late or was not on the "nefa" scene then...

Everyday I hated that crap..and still do...WE have all made it our mission to fix the issues...I went to VA for a summer and came back to my poor little baby....killed...that clear cutting negated lots of hard work...it was like stepping back to prehistoric times the amount of slash around...my nephew slipped on hole 6 when he was up visiting and I think that was what made me "snap" on the course cleanup...always think young/old first with cleanup..keeping pros in mind..hole 6 was a mess...anything left of the far fairway I created by hand..dam those logs were heavy no saw then...I agree..I said how is this habitat..? Now I see...the work they did has grown in with nice hardwood..the hawks soar..the chipmunks get picked..lots of wildlife..birds,butterflies,ravens,fox,porcupines,skunks,ferrit things,fishercats,deer...many more..they all seem to thrive with a DG course right smack in the middle...so looking back I am glad we did/do put wildlife first at Tully...it will only help grow the course in the long run if we work with the wildlife...The course is slowly looking natural again from the logging...wow the amount of work to clean that crap up has been crazy....We put ropes to assist with walking up from cliff on 10...small help but something...that hole I will say right now eventually will be changed...IMO..I understand how Dam courses work now....

We will have 17 holy crap pads in by next week...wow...good work Army Corp,Tully Crew...the course will have some great changes and improvements.....I hate the "old" pads...the masonary work is sub par..the ones the VOLUNTEERS are doing looking SWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEET...that is a fact.

Well I hope everyone enjoys how the course is looking

Anyone is welcome to beat down, kick in the balls, spit or anything else that comes to mind if they are playing and sees someone litter! That goes for any course

Big Thanks to

Andy,John H,Mike M,Chilli,Cupcakes,Josh,Josh,josh's son and the ACOE

We cleared the fairway and surrounding area of new 2 fairway...looking sweet..we went overboard with the cleanup..glad though we have 1 chance at a chipper so better to clear the area of ALL debris...only hole that will not have "habitat" piles on edge of fairway

The Seans did some tee grading

We have one big brush pile for that chipper..we need chips anyways for the erosion area on the "old" 2 fairway and so erosion does not occur on our new fairway....

The final opening will be cut Monday wanted to leave it for last..we know what we are cutting and did not want people out there until we were about done..

We may have tee put in by weds afternoon and hole open for weds dubz league..depends on ACOE ability/time restrains on the chipper work...we are not allowed to use chipper...

To end the day I say "last log" then I kick it and bust through an underground whiteface nest and get lit up on the foot, throat and abs...arrrrrrr...won't hold me back though from banging out some work Monday

ALL WHO CAN.....WORKING ALL WEEK.....8am till Dark...... ..no excuses plenty of day for an hour or 2...of volunteer work on a sweet free to play course

Next week...league is canceled for work day and vibram open...we have 2 Tully Club members in Vibram this year..hopefully they will Make the CUT...

Hole 2...just about done..tee in...just some minor tweaking of fairway....and set the basket in its new home...happening Weds before league...So come have at hole 2 before its gone forever...The new position adds strength to the course...and some nice views..

I don't like how the bricks came out...they will be fine...I lost square somehow..I think when I laged the frame the corner kicked and I dropped the ball on catching it...so the edges looks terrible IMO....once its all landscaped and fades to more natural colors should be fine....overall its good..just being nit picky..I try for perfection most of the time failing...

Hole 8 starts 7am Weds....picked out the tee area...and hopefully final pin position..well at least for awhile..should be done by evening...skeleton crew today but more troops for Weds...should be easier then other tees..

Then hole 9...I will not be doing the pad until I have some soldiers committed(10-15) for the day to knock off some items on the punch list.....

More updates soon

All I'm going to say about the new tee pads and modifications at Tully DGC is that -

TITAN IS A FRICKING MACHINE.

He has been running the show and doing the majority of the work. Sure he has had some help but without him this project would be crawling along. Yesterday he worked all day with a bum ankle after being attacked by white faced wasps.

Next time you see Titan, if you like the changes at Tully then tell him so.......

You boys got that right. He and Sean "Chilli" Chilmark have been going nonstop everyday for 3 straight weeks now. Sully you hit the nail on the head, If it weren't for Titan's "GO GET IT" attitude these teepads may not have gotten in by the end of the summer nevermind 3-4 weeks.

Well TY...Its a group effort and the ACOE have been super supportive...we may have tested the limits last night 630am to 8pm...ended with a police visit....so we will the smoke clear till Saturday....

Cupcakes and myself went down to put the bricks in on 8 and we found the frame was miscut...won't mention any names coughBillMercough...so Cakes had to rip up the frame and re-cut the board..he also cut the last frame so we will not have "cut" issues again..I guess I should have measured the board before I set it...just tasted the finish line...Friday will be nice to watch some disc golf and chill to regroup for the last leg of the project...lay bricks and cut pin on 8....9's tee, move the basket back of the new hole 2...plays a lil easy so we are going to take every foot we can get about 75 can be gained without changing the line....

The rangers had a fire up there today they put out with a boat and pump so it was a good day to have chilled......

So any and all come Saturday for some hard work to start the final leg of project

We now have 17 Tee Pads at Tully

Hole 10 can't be done until next year...for many reasons

3 of the new pads have small flaws...hopefully as time passes my brain will forget about them!!

The old pads the club did not do will have to be regraded 1 a year and we can get a constant regrade cycle down.....so they always look sharp...

We may have enough bricks to do a small Rec/Junior Tee for hole 1

We have a punch list of stuff that still needs to get done...landscaping,grading,limb removal, cleanup, move some baskets around...then new signage......

So almost all stuff can be done by Weds Dubz..so the work days continue until then for now.....the rest is just...in the future stuff.....

Course will look sweet for Fall DG

Thanks to all who make Tully what it is "One of the sweeeetest courses in New England"
