As Davis mentioned there is a reason we have no signs, however the REAL reason is we HATE tee signs, that is why we destoryed all the original ones, plus it discourages new players from playing at our course which keeps it more open for locals..If you don't know your way around go somewhere else..(I hope that broke the internet sarcasm meter)

Signs will be put in place when the alternate layout is complete. We have a budget for them. There is a never ending amount of work that goes into keeping up a disc golf course. It would not be possible without the dedicated local crew; Mike K., Steve M., and Ken W. to name some. There are several more.

I have a plan for alternate pin locations for the remaining holes and I would like to knock a few more out before the Ice Bowl on Februrary 2, 2013. This is achievable if Mother Nature cooperates.
So, hopefully we can get a work day or two in the near future and knock out a few more alternate pin placements to be that much closer to signs. If any of the Crane Hill or Crane Hill B team would like to come out to the workdays it would be encouraged and respected.

Since something is already occuring at the course Saturday, we will have to do a workday on Friday.....who is available to help out?

Big thanks go out to Mark L., Mark H., Mark S., Mark G., Mike K., and Steve M. for their hard work at Crane Hill on Tuesday. These guys came out and raged it....we cleared the majority of the alternate greens for hole 2 and hole 5. That included cleaning up all the downed trees and snags and moving a couple of huge piles that were adjacent to 5's fairway....these guys crushed it!!!

If all goes well we can get some sleeves cemented in the ground before the weather turns....

Andy, I've been playing there almost every day since the big snow storm and it isnt bad at all. The tee boxes are all shoveled. The fairways in the woods all have some snow on them, but not deep enough to lose a disc, only a couple inches. Overall its very playable.

I hear that snow out there is minimal. Can anyone confirm these claims?

There was a decent bit of snow out there today and we needed to use spotters on every hole. With it being so warm out the snow is soft so the discs are going in and sliding another few feet away from the entry which is incredibly annoying. Hopefully the warm weather just gets all of this stuff gone soon!

Played a round today. All I have to say is NICE JOB with the improvements to the course!!! Goes to show you what can be done when you have a group of guys that care about there local disc golf course. You guys run a tight ship and other courses should look at what you guys do as a standard for the local courses in the area. Be proud of what you done for disc golf in Western MA!!!!
I know you guys are a long way from being done but is there an updated distance per hole and par per hole/course?

Just wanted to jump in and say "Nice Job!" I play your course every so often and have seen both the old and new layouts. A really fun course on a great piece of land. May all your throws miss everything but the basket.

I don't have distances, but all holes play as par 3s (including alts) with the exception of the following par 4s:
Hole 4 in the long
Hole 13 in the long
Hole 15 in the long
Hole 16 in the long

The longest layout at Crane plays par 58. I will be curious to see what that rating is after this weekend.

I'll stick my neck out and say that a 53 will be a 1000-rated round (with all pins in the "longs").

Played the course a couple of days ago and DID see that all the holes now have 2 pins each.
Dan or Davis: Is it youz guyz intent to have 2 distinct layouts or will it just be "whatever one wishes"? And if the former, have you decided which (of each hole's pin) is for which?

Karl

How about original and Alt. Keep it simple.

Unfortunately it's not quite that simple - for instance hole 4, 15, and 17 are new and newer... I personally think we need some labels so we can establish some records, but I just play there.

Totally forgot some of the originals moved to open up the fairways for some of the Alts. I was confused when I played a few weeks ago b/c I was thinking orig and new, Mike was thinking long and short. Needless to say we played a few holes differently until we started talking about which basket at every tee

hello Crane Crew

I recently have been exploring new to DG opportunities and in an adenture to find a better fit for the masters and legends of DG event..I reached out to the MA senior Games tour..hosting athletic eents of all kinds for 40+ men/women...who then qualify for a national games..much like olympics

They also have non national events...and are closely tied to orgs in all NE states(pretty much same thing different state)

The orgs all host around 1k in members and grow each year..IMO that would be huge for DG to hae roughly 6k more people all getting exposure to DG

So I sent out an email asking what the dealy was with DG and their Org...
I received a speedy response back with great news..portion of email below

Mr. Bariloni:

I agree with you that Disc Golf is a great fit for the Massachusetts Senior Games. That's why we have already added it to our Games for the summer of 2014. It will be played on Sunday, June 15th at the Crane Hill Disc Golf Course in Wilbraham, MA.

well great to see people finally taking interest in DG from outside the DG community
I just wanted to ask if any of you have been contacted in regards to this event..and if not would any Crane Hill guys be open to helping with the event? They seem to have many things covered...just would be great to connect DG community with their Org

discuss? and thanks

There are a ton of wasps nesting on 16 and 17 fairway where it is sandy. Just a heads up.

Golden digger wasps. They won't attack you but they are intimidating for sure because of their size
