Seriously, it's good to see some activity on this course thread. I liked what I saw last year and I've been wanting to play it for real since then.
The stick targets are a stroke of genius. Much better looking than orange plastic Home Depot buckets, very likely cheaper, and probably much more fun to hit.
Keep up the good work out there!

I don't blame you one bit for being annoyed. I see a post from last year and the year before about this supposed timber harvest that keeps on not happening. Isn't this holding up progress in Gardner as well? I'm beginning to think we're being strung along here. I don't think there really is a timber harvest in the works at all. Has the job been put up for bids from contractors? If so, which, if any, contractors have placed bids? Do these places really want DG courses? Hasn't approval been voted on by the folks in these towns? If so, then why the delay? Two, three YEARS???!!!! I say, pull the plug on these projects so we can devote energy to places that REALLY want courses.
Good to hear from you, T. Keep on sluggin' away out there.

Yes very frustrating

Gardner timber harvest is done
And now we are awaiting final approval

This project has been marked and bid closed years ago
The issue is two wells are eventually being installed in conjunction with harvest

Town politics are tricky

This project is literally five minutes from my house
As much as this one frustrates me I want to see it through as one day I will probably only be able to play there lol

And I guess technically we could have finished the course here it just makes no sense to before a cut

Grrrr gear basically

Made direct contact with local businesses owner and outdoor enthusiast trail head

He received my email and since is pushing for this project on the local civic level

He has the connections
He spoke with town and state officials

Said its time to stop studies and put shovels in ground

It's ironic cuz they came to him to spruce local area parks up

He said we have an abandoned park that needs trees cut and a group is ready to improve park

The town needs to step up and step up now

He is determined as well to see this through

He will update me when new info comes to light

So I guess progress
Fingers still crossed

Don't know why, my last post didn't go through...
But this is a different wrinkle.
Another point I wanted to make is, the course needs a local champion, and it seems to have one. Trail Head Outfitters, correct? Maybe he could get a petition going from his shop. We should only let Lucy pull the football away so many times. Maybe threatening to pull out would provide incentive. It would be a shame to give up on this project, but there are others in the works. Maybe Erving or Warwick or New Salem might want a course instead.

kid napping finally wtf today has been hectic

as rick knows this land is basically a secret GEM
it has so many diverse terrains in a rather small area

I will fight till the end for this

Yes Trail Head is great for this project to succeed and he sells DG gear so win win

A petition could be of value but Paul at TH has been great local leader for years....his following of people should help get this underway.

He knows the people directly for decades that need to make this happen.

He also knows the years of waiting as I have kept him in loop from start.

What is helping is he is sick of hearing the town has nothing what can we do, what can TH do to help blah blah

He is now kinda upset and sick of hearing talks all talk and no action ever!!!! study that observe that, ok with this person and so on and so hitchhikers guide to galaxy comes to mind file a form to get a form

these small towns try to be big GOV and that is not what made these towns thrive nor will it ever

Citizens, volunteers and hardwork..taking pride in somethingmuch how this park was first created via Kiwana's

as with all those type clubs they died off...not sure why but I suspect kids never followed in parents footsteps and wanted to go be big stars mememe gen of people...never help help help others

New salem sucks
warwick is all mt grace and frankly they disgust me..I would be more inclined as it would make more sense to reach out to Winchester NH as that would connect with Brat,US, and Keene anyways..they are so poverty strucked there anything to help people get healthy and positive would be huge

Erving would fall under Wendell as the state land encompasses Wendell and erving

I think of it as a puzzle...a puzzle missing some pieces and I must contact manufacturer to get the last pieces...except they are in china now and I must wait for my puzzle piece to arrive via a boat lol

this place will fill a great DG role as new to sport, kids, elderly or physical limitations

9 simple holes on great land will actually do more for the sport then an 18 hole championship layout

I can't wait to one day go there and see the place in use....although frustrated I have learned patience of late to whole new level in my life...I guess 2 years olds have that affect

I was just thinking maybe a little reverse psychology...just listing the towns surrounding Orange. For all I knew, none of them were good candidates for courses. From what you wrote, that seems to be the case. But maybe the PTB in Orange don't know that. I wasn't really advocating abandoning the project. But maybe if the PTB think you might....
In the other post I wanted to send, I was writing how I wanted to shoot a round on the home from my nephew's in Greenfield this past Sunday. With Highlands of Conway falling into neglect and disrepair, I opted first for Tully, which was packed even at five in the afternoon. So I wound up playing Barre (driving right past now-defunct Petersham.) Barre was also fairly busy. So it would be a good thing having another course in the region.
Been watching the Gardner thread, good news there at least.
All this DG talk got me wanting to shoot so I hit Coggs today. We're getting stuff done there, locals are pitching in. Still plenty to do but I'm up for a change of scenery as the RT2 Empire grows.

A timber harvest is FINALLY starting
come spring when the DUST settles, it is GO time

I would like to say thanks to Mike Heidorn the former Super of the Orange Water Dept for making his last task before leaving getting this underway for us. The new Super has a few things to catch on and then will meet with us to discuss what the future holds.

persistence is the word of the year

embrace it

Well, there's a bit of good news. Looking forward to seeing it happen out there.
Side note, I got a chance recently to play RFG with some of the Devens crew. Bomber of a course.
Big progress at Coggs this past year. Now we need to get Gardner back on the radar.
Keep pushing, persistence pays.

Hello Rick,

great to hear!

RFG is for sure a fun bomber that challenges players while offering a great hike.

This project will be the missing puzzle piece around this way to fill the "pitch and putt" role

I am excited, optimistic but a lil resvered until I see a tree fall

If you count the pre email sent before this thread almost 4 years to the date.............but finally

The Timber Harvest has begun!!!!!!

Drove by and logs are a dropping and being loaded

This should have us on schedule for id Spring to begin again

Not sure what the land will look like after but we shall make due with whatever remains when the dust settles

edit( This is why threads should be started on courses and maintained so the future nutcases can see what time is really involved in the evolution of a piece of land to be transformed into a DG course...I hope year 5 is filled with pictures of people playing!)

Great spirit lifter for me today, makes those years of frustration and helplessness all worth it

Great news...I'll keep an eye on progress here. Speaking of which, it's happening at Coggshall in a big way. I have to start a new thread (again) because I failed to post on last year's more than once... we do most of our communicating on Facebook these days.

Karl, Guy, and I met Saturday to finalize design and work logistics.

We have a good grasp moving forward and will release more detailed information soon as we have gathered our thoughts into text and aligned a few items for timing purposes.

There will be one chainsaw ran and it will be in the hands of Guy

Karl and Guy start work clearing trails, trees, deadfall, ground growth, bucking larger fallen trees for easier removal Monday 5/16 9am-?
If anyone is interested they could surely use a hand or delegate a task out such as pole sawing. All tools will be on scene.

After this first cut a flagging system for exact piles for debris dragging will be placed out to stage for the much need fingers crossed local volunteer effort to chip away at anytime they desire. There is soooo much debris after a timber harvest.

Soon a social media site will be set up to gather volunteers

Stay tuned exciting stuff
really cool to see this finally on track for a long term future

Karl & Guy spent time Friday finishing the path from 2-3 and then started carving 3

Today Guy and I spent time on 3 and the surrounding area of what looking like tree puke from the harvest.

A few more work days in between, time to keep a log

The schedule will be Fri/Sat for the most part on this one with random days scattered in.

We will have a flagging system for debris piles for those who want to help gather burn/chip piles.

There is so much debris on the ground, hands will be greatly appreciated.

Currently we are in the works of starting a FB page for this to gather local steam.

The point, a sweet 9 hole course is more then underway! That has been called whimsical, magical and earth porn, well mainly by me
Come help revive a piece of forgotten recreational land with the evolution of the future, disc golf

Come join the FUN, much more fun then 2 rounds of competitive DG talk about boooooring

Productive weekend at this project.

Saturday
Karl put in a solid 6
Guy pushed it to the max prob worked an honest 8
I topped my DG day off with 2.5 hours

Hole 4 is currently being cleaned from the warzone left by timber harvest.
Hole 5 was cut

Sunday
Guy and I
8-10 hours combined we forget time often
Continued cleaning hole 4's fairway/green
most likely one more session we can advance at least.

Plenty of debris piling well everywhere

Come join the fun,

bring an iron rake, gloves, snips and use the barrel on site gather lug to pile repeat x a million.

I feel the excitement in the air of a new DG course around here, the more hands the better!

Derek Vescovi and I were able to crush an hour out here this evening.
His dog likes to go fetch the sticks you put in the pile and return them, once we figured you need to throw more sticks then she can handle the pace wasn't bad, so actually she does get productivity up.

Guy I think for top of 4's green we make a pile over the crest ?

I will give final raking and log sweep next session.

After that I am skipping over to 6, to get things going on that side of course.
Are you gonna grab 5?

Next session w/ Karl crush out hole 9?

My schedule
wedz, fri afternoon are a go provided work is not super late, Sat is a maybe if I have to work, and Sun 6/7am-11am

pm sent
