Hard to believe, but it was 3 years ago! That layout was/is the long layout. There is a "short" layout as well that has a few holes with a closer basket, and a few with a shorter tee.

Randy Ahern was out on the course this morning leveling out all of the baskets so we should be all set there. Mike Carrol will be out on the course in a little while painting all of the circles for the card earning opportunities and lining the O.B.

The Blue course which everyone will be playing in the second round is playing slightly longer than it was three years ago. The only change on that course is hole 15 which was the long, tight uphill hole with a basket on top of a set of hay bales. This year, I didn't have any access to the hay bales so I lengthened the once 350' hole to make it a healthy 440' hole which will most likely require a precisely executed blind second shot in order to record a birdie as this hole is now a par 4.

The morning round will be played with two short placements on holes 1 and 5. These will be card earning holes thus the need to shorten them up. Even though they are playing considerably shorter (Hole 1 Blue is at 631 feet, White is 240 feet and hole 5 Blue is 509 feet, White is 180 feet) they will still require a skillful shot in order to have a chance at earning a free card.

Change of plans on the rounds also:

The morning round will be the shorter round of the two and because I couldn't get a sufficient amount of volunteers for the afternoon, the morning round will feature both the poker round and the poker tents simultaneously.

The poker round:
  • Is an optional game to play during the first round if you'd like.
  • To participate in the poker round, players pay $5 for which they will receive 2 randomly drawn cards at the start of the round.
  • During the round, there will be 5 holes (holes 1, 5, 12, 14, 18) marked as card earning opportunities. These holes will have a 60' diameter circle marked around the pin.
  • If a player's drive lands within the circle on those marked holes, that player will receive another card to add to their previous two cards.
  • If a player's drive does not land within the circle, they can still earn a card one of two ways. By either recording a birdie from outside of the circle or by paying an additional two dollars if they are unable to record their birdie.
  • All participating players have an opportunity to earn up to 5 extra cards to make a total of 7 possible cards in their hand.
  • The money that is in the pot is going to be used 4 ways. Firstly, the entire pot will be split in 1/2 ... half of the pot will go to our charity, the Upper Charles Conservation Land Trust and the other half will go to Pokerpalooza. The half that goes to Pokerpalooza will be used 3 ways ... 1/2 of that pot will go to the Hold’em tournament being held after Pokerpalooza, 1/4 of the pot will go the best possible poker hand a player is able to put together, the other 1/4 of the pot will go the the worst possible hand a player is able to put together.

Also during the first round, players will be visiting three poker game tents which will be set up between some of the holes.
  • There will be three opportunities for players to win cool prizes and/or cash at 3 sponsored tents around the course.
  • In between three of the holes, there will be a table set up where a dealer will deal players a hand of poker.
  • Which ever player is able to come up with the best poker hand after the cards have been dealt and then drawn, will win a prize at that sponsored tent.
  • The sponsored tents are 5th Ave Liquors in Millis, Discraft, and International Bicycle in Newton.

In the second round, we'll all be playing from the Blue tee's which is the longest layout, there will be no poker themed games going on then, just pure disc golf with an opportunity to go the final table at the end of the night. For every 10 players registered withing a division, that division will get an automatic bid to the final table based on score. 1 or 2 spots will be up for grabs during a CTP contest at the end of the tournament and the other spots will be awarded to some divisions based on the tournament directors discretion which won't be known until after registration is completed in the morning.

So what if there aren't 10 players in a division?

Love this property. To think that Rob designed this course, runs great tournaments, combines two of my favorites in disc golf and Poker, and I can't play... Wahhhh...

If you get the chance, come enjoy a scenic wonder that is rivaled by few courses in NEFA region. If this was regular and maintained it would be a top ten course for sure.

Sign up and show Tatro some love!

It is actually across the street from 251 north. That address is a residential. Don't pull up a driveway. Across from 251 north is a gate that leads into a field.

Thanks for the semi-update Joe ... I was up at 6am again today (harder to do today however after a late night of cards) so that I could get over to the hunt club and get ready for our community day today. After taking the course down with Mike Carrol this afternoon ... I'm ready to chill a bit before my family takes me out for father's day.

Divisional winners were:
  • Stephen Economos, Pro Open - 102
  • Gary Cyr, Pro Masters - 108
  • Daniel Marcus, Pro Grandmasters - 107
  • Mike Habets, Advanced Men with - 109
  • Ken Marshall, Advanced Master - 120
  • Mike Saimond, Advanced Grandmaster - 120
  • Nicholas Ailes, Intermediate Men - 127
  • Lee Marshall, Intermediate Women - 151

Winning the invitational poker tournament last night was Dave Richardson.

Winning the best poker hand in the first round was Ken Gary with quad 5's ... the worst poker hand pot was won by Dave Richardson with an A2345.

I hope everyone enjoyed themselves, the day was gorgeous yesterday and smiles were contagious. I'll get a full update together when I have a chance to catch my breath 8-)

Thanks again Rob I had a great time. Always appreciate the hard work you put in to these things. Hands down the best tournament I've played in this year. That course would easily be top 3 in MA for me if it was permanent. Hope we can do this every year!
